I remember he stated one of his current assistants had been with him for nine years at Delaware. I think this cat fits the bill. Plus Hartford has an interim coach that went 5-23. Better to move on asap from that staff.

if i heard him correctly, "i believe" coach ross stated that the only players in the portal that he's willing to recruit are players that he already knows or are coached by a coach that he already knows. basically "implying" that you never know what kind of baggage players in the portal bring with them unless you've already done your homework on them relative to their character and academics. i'm paraphrasing but that's the gist of what i think he said during the podcast. so if my memory of his interview is correct, then that eliminates a lot of guys in the portal for him to recruit unless he already knows the majority of them. i don't know if i agree with that approach cuz you could easily overlook some good talent, but i understand why he might feel that way... If this is accurate, I doubt he sticks to those constraints based on the type of pressure he must be facing to elevate the MBB program. Who he knows is vague, so the coach can use it to fit any scenario (well, little, by name only, video, read about him, etc.) to expand his search for recruits.

He was pretty specific during the podcast. By "who he knows" he means somebody who he is familiar with. And that person has to be familiar with the player and his situation. As a longtime coach his contact list has to be pretty large at this juncture.

As a longtime coach his contact list has to be pretty large at this juncture. Ok, I listened to the entire podcast. My takeaway was that Coach Ross will consider any player in the transfer portal as long as they have been properly vetted before making any offer to them, beginning with previously recruited players or aau programs they are familiar with, etc. Coach Ross says he is not going to blindly offer scholarships to players based solely on stats. Therefore, his search for talented players that fit in at A&T and can compete in the CAA is wide open. I was happy to learn that coach and his staff were already on the phone contacting recruits before the official announcement. In addition, it also appears Coach Ross is following the new trend in filling open scholarship positions more favorably with transfer players. He mentioned that if he had 6 available scholarships he would fill them 3-3 or 4-2 split with preferred transfer players. HS players are still getting lost in the tranfer shuffle era, but coach feels we may be able to pickup a couple of talented HS players that might have been overlooked due to transfer players focus. I assume these are overlooked high-major or top mid-major college caliber players he is referring to. He wants to build a championship quality team, but I don't recall if he used the word slowly. Lots of good stuff, but we will have to wait and see if he can deliver on it.

Coach Ross seems to have gotten off to a good start on his first official day by holding on to the early commitment from a really promising 4-star recruit despite the coaching change.

I was impressed and appreciated his candor. Like he said, he won the press conference but now its time for results.

If we can see progress and development, we have a winner.

well, at least we've got a coach who has decent public speaking skills. won't embarrass us when talking to the media...

Did Brown sign a National Letter of Intent (NLI)? You can't give Coach Ross credit for holding onto an already committed player. Brown had the opportunity to bolt or decommit for many months before Coach Ross entered the picture. The credit should go to the player sticking with A&T throughout the changes and uncertainty in my opinion. Coach Ross should get no credit in recruiting Brown, but credit in closing the deal by getting him to sign the written NLI because only at that point is Brown an official Aggie (of course he has to enroll).

i need to see some "recruiting commitments" real fast from coach ross and his staff. i know he asked us to give him time, but we don't have a lot of time. "essentially" our entire roster has to be rebuilt.
its understandable that he wants "patience", its understandable that he won't build a championship program overnight. but i need to see at least a couple of "recruiting commitments" in short order to show that this guy can actually "recruit".
if we only had to plug 2 or 3 holes, i could see being patient. but we have more like 7 or 8 holes that need to be filled, and 5 of those holes are for "starters" level talent...

When I clicked on it I saw no comments that he had signed. Thanks for the additional info. (By the way, I was editing my original post while you were responding which is why they look different now 🤔)
