Historically, the night home games against Central and UNCG have always been near sellouts. Especially when they happen before winter break. The challenge will be how the students respond to a home game on a Saturday afternoon in February against Elon or Hampton. Those two should be fine as long as they make sure the students know about the game. Greek Night should also be pretty packed. But that TV game against college of Charleston will be interesting. It’s a TV game at 5 pm on Jan 4th. That one could be sparsely attended due to where it falls. The game will need to be promoted with giveaways to get attendance up

But we weren’t playing an HBCU 😂 Right. Lol. And there goes the kicker that most people have been trying to deny! With a mostly PWI schedule in basketball and football we have full control of our own environment the entire game. The other teams band or pep band aint there, we shouldn't give a damn if their cheerleaders show up, and not even their fans. We need a game coordinator at basketball and football games planning who does what at breaks in the action. 1st timeout I got the Q's stepping with the DJ, 2nd timeout I got the pep band rocking with the Alphas, end of first quarter I got the DJ rocking with crowd participation, halftime, end of 3rd, 1st timeout of 2nd half. etc, etc. We are the culture, the opponent is not! When Corbett was at its peak isn't this how the plan went? Whoever took over after that guy dropped that ball. Greatest thing in Corbett I've ever seen was the Pig mascot when we played Morgan State. Same thing can be done at Truist.

UNCG is a different animal though from most PWIs. They have a black chancellor and one-fourth of their student body is black.
A lot of A&T students have friends, roommates and family members enrolled at UNCG. There are members of Golden Delight who are UNCG students.
Playing UNCG is about the closest thing we will encounter to playing another HBCU, as far as a game that interests the students.

The only other UNC System PWIs that have a black population similar to UNCG is UNCC and ECU. UNCW only has about 1200 Black Students enrolled. Despite this, I think the students would be excited to play Elon, Hampton, UNCW, and Campbell when they join in July 2023. Conversely, I think we could pursue playing UNCC and ECU OOC next year after looking at the numbers. BTW: The stats I found came from here: myinsight.northcarolina.edu/t/Public/views/db_enroll/Demographics?%3Aembed=y&%3AisGuestRedirectFromVizportal=y&iid=1

Big time win, with an interim coach and missing two big men. Surprised there wasn’t more posts on this thread. There would have been 90+ pages of comments if we had lost! We're better at criticizing than celebrating! Wait, have we become the Republican Party... the grievance HBCU?

Nccu is a given and on par with UNCG Norfolk and SC State is decent, I'd say Elon and Hampton are suitable replacements. Don't forget the future addition of Campbell. Morgan State meh, there's still UNCW and College of Charleston. We'll be fine.

Pleasantly surprised by the victory. Hopefully UNCG doesn't end up at the bottom of their conference.
I don't really watch bball at all. Would those who saw the game and any of the games Shumpert was absent say his presence was a differentiating factor?

Would those who saw the game and any of the games Shumpert was absent say his presence was a differentiating factor? Unfortunately, I can't say he was any more engaged on the sideline than Coach Rob during the average women's game. However, our guys played with a lot of energy on the defensive end and pressured the ball all game long. We will struggle to score points from the perimeter, but we may be dangerous in transition. It was a good team win last night, but I fear that UNCG is just god awful. They were smaller than we were in the backcourt and their big men were not very athletic.
