That's the problem. We've had a long time to come up with the "right" hire for years. Yet we keep ending up with interims. There's a problem somewhere regarding the mens' program and I don't know how much I blame the coaches. The issue was the conference we came from, made subpar coaches look goodđ¤ˇđžââď¸ No one can deny that Jones had success in the MEAC!

Don't think we can blame coach Shumpert here and it was commented upon last spring/early summer that all the signings were guards.

Oh well, Iowa and Iowa State took advantage. We'll see how we adjust going forward.

We signed two 6â9 post playersâŚAustin Johnson and Will Felton ncataggies.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster?path=mbballThe new set of Aggies includes Tyrese Elliott (6-foot-2, 175, guard, Loganville, Ga., Grayson High School), Kam Woods (6-2, 185, G, Bessemer, Ala., Pinson Valley HS, Northwest Florida State Junior College), Love Bettis (6-0, 165, G, Pensacola, Fla., J.M. Tate HS, Coffeyville JC), Will Felton (6-8, 250, Raleigh, N.C., Millbrook HS, Arizona State) and Austin Johnson (6-9, 235, Marrietta, Ga., WheelerHS/Link Year Prep, Cal-Irvine).

Johnson is a handy player but 180lbs dripping wet. Felton is out for the season and Harry was chopped down by one if the mosquito fleet. Web plays with heart, but not an offensive threat. As mentioned before we need to dribble less and pass more.

The point is outside of those two and Harry, we do not have any Mid-Major quality bigs, right now. That could change as Duncan comes along but we are a guard-heavy team without an inside presence. We gotta figure out how to change that before conference play.

Multiple posters suggest that we need an upgrade in coach to be competitive in the CAA. What about the players? Are the players we currently have or are recruiting sufficient to compete at a high level or is there a noticeable gap in talent? Just asking because I don't know. I don't like when all the blame is put on the coach when there maybe a problem in recruiting talent that may be out of his control. he himself stated in an interview that he recruited most of the players on our roster, but that doesn't mean he's only one on our staff who recruited them. besides, i think we have good talent that's not being utilized properly. again, i don't think i saw our players successfully set not even 1 single screen against iowa state and that has "nothing" whatsoever to do with talent. you don't have to be "talented" to successfully set a screen, we either don't have the "desire" or we don't have the "discipline" to set screens. coach can't control "desire", but he dayum sho can control "discipline"...

whenever you play against a team that has superior talent to yours (i.e., iowa and iowa state), it is "imperative" that you run a "disciplined" offense that creates a high percentage shot and takes a little time off the clock to keep the game within reach (less than 20 point deficit). to me, the inexperience of being a head coach will more likely manifest itself through "decision making" or "adjustments", but it shouldn't manifest itself thru the lack of "fundamentals" because ALL COACHES on the staff are responsible for teaching "fundamentals" such as defensive footwork and "setting screens".
not "setting screens" has absolutely "nothing" to do with a coach's inexperience as a head coach. you don't have to have head coaching experience to teach and enforce "setting screens" in a game. in no way whatsoever am i calling for any coaches to be fired, but to me i expect "any coach" to teach and enforce basic fundamentals. it doesn't take a "rocket scientist" to do that.
all i'm asking for are the "basics"! poor in game decisions or lack of adjustments can be attributed to lack of experience, but "poor fundamentals" can't...

The good thing about having an interim coach is that AD Hilton will have a full season of watching CAA basketballâŚhe will have a better idea of how tough the league is and what kind of coach and resources we need.

They set screens but they were all high ones . There was nothing in the paint or post area . In order for screens to be effective you must first have player movement and ball movement. We don't have either . Screens are useless if you don't have ball rotation and player movements to set them up . As long as these youngman have been playing the game they should know that movement creates space and space creates uncontested shot opportunities . Hell if they are going to play Rec ball at least play good Rec ball like in the Drew League đ𤣠.
