Multiple posters suggest that we need an upgrade in coach to be competitive in the CAA. What about the players? Are the players we currently have or are recruiting sufficient to compete at a high level or is there a noticeable gap in talent? Just asking because I don't know. I don't like when all the blame is put on the coach when there maybe a problem in recruiting talent that may be out of his control. Don't think we can blame coach Shumpert here and it was commented upon last spring/early summer that all the signings were guards. With Felton and Harry out it was definitely the mosquito fleet in Iowa.

Even without talent we can look like a Div1 basketball team. We have two 4 stars and four 3 stars, one 2 star on this roster...we have talent.

I thought Shumpert was the top recruiter for this program when he was an assistant.

We just gotta let the tape show what it shows once we hit Conference Play. But to me... We need improvements across the board.

We need improvements across the board. Are you referring to just basketball or do you mean throughout the entire athletic department?

If you gone play with the Big Dawgs you got to come off the porch and fight. We chose to join the CAA so we need to quit pretending and get qualified coaches.

I haven't checked their rosters yet, but there have been 2 SWAC squads with wins over PAC-12 opponents as well as MEAC squads with near upsets over P5 opponents losing by around 10 points.
I know the PAC-12 aren't world beaters but they are still P5, and I'm not saying we should win these games, my argument is that we're getting doubled up, where as some of our HBCU brethren are playing competitive games throughout.
Some HBCUs are still getting blown out but I would argue that we should/need to be one those playing competitive contests.
I have to believe some of these other schools have turnover on their rosters as all if college athletics do, but wonder why they are having more success than we have over recent seasons.

Texas Southern and Grambling have been able to recruit well and retain talent.

Our program has been on shaky ground for a while. It's unfair to expect Shumpert to pull a rabbit out of his hat this quickly imo.

Don't expect him to, but our administration has an entire basketball season to develop and evaluate a list of candidates, with some additions of course coming later based on how the college basketball season ends. We have a long time to come up with the right hire going forward in the CAA.

That's the problem. We've had a long time to come up with the "right" hire for years. Yet we keep ending up with interims. There's a problem somewhere regarding the mens' program and I don't know how much I blame the coaches.
