I'll just add that even little Edward Waters came in aggressive as hail. Meanwhile, the Machine sat quiet and passive. I streamed the CSU game....again, quiet as church mice and a non-factor in regards to in-game experience and team support. From a TV viewer perspective, they were uniformly dressed seat fillers. I understand that maintaining a great HBCU band has nothing to do with getting us to R1. However if it is our goal to only be mediocre, I would rather we disband it all together. Either we hit excellence across the board - in all aspects of the University - or pa'l carajo con todo!!

I know! Sounds ridiculous doesn't it?! It actually turns my stomach to even think it - for several reasons. At the same time, mediocrity pisses me off.

The BGMM is definitely not loved outside of NC. Many band heads and kids don’t like A&T style that is a fact, a lot of talented NC players leave to go to more aggressive sounding heavy arrangement band like a Talledega. Believe it or not Cold Steel catches a lot of heat for their lack of playing/punches. This year is a down year for the band. Our brass lack numbers the woodwinds make us look big and as someone said earlier the lack of brass and talent affects our sound.

I’m glad cold steel ain’t block up VS DOA that would’ve been ugly. DOA has increased their playing ability and cadences we would’ve been talked about for months. Facts of the matter is that our band program does not get love outside of our community and it’s a few reasons why. One of which might upset some people.

Do you think the band director is going thru brunt-out? He’s definitely has a lot on his plate. But that has nothing to do with the topic. He’s got plenty of assistants to accept or reject mediocre playing at practice, which comes through at games, and band directors rarely write out songs. During the game all he has to do is tell them when to play or not play, or turn one of the assistants loose to call songs.

Dr. Lawhorn is a great man. Yeah, he is. Why can’t they go on the field? As it is he’s right - based on what they’ve been doing in the stands - very little - no point. But no reason it has to be that way. I’ve been asking for 10 or 15 second clips for between plays for years. First down clip, turnover clip, pick 6 clip…. Turn it into a video game. 4 or 8 measures at the right place and there’s nothing the refs can do to stop us. Central has a chant they do every first down, we have nothing. No reason the Machine can’t be a 200 member version of the Livewires. From the BSC to the CAA, this is going to be an ongoing issue. The sooner we adapt the better.
