We need to find a Coach frome the CAA ranks their should be a good Asst Coach from the CAA Conference who is ready to become a Coach or maybe go after Norfolk State Coach or Morton at Central also Watch out for a Shoe to drop on Women Tennis side that University is trying to keep Hush Hush If Moten didn't leave NCCU for more monies, meaning at least $500k per year, why would leave to come to A&T. Moton had the opportunity to leave NCCU when he was hot, not that he has cooled, however he chose to stay at that time. Those were years when they made the tourney as a #14 seed. The mid-majors came running and he didn't leave for the "Greener Pastures." The guy in Norfolk is a great recruiter and his coaching is okay but, I wouldn't say he coaches the "Xs and Os," better than Moten. Then you have to look at the basketball in the CAA holistically, it is better brand of basketball and the coaching shows that. It's not a lot of big name coaches but, there are really good programs in the conference. As far as an idea of what the coaches earn...Shaka Smart was $750k per year at VCU when they were in the CAA. They upped his salary when they had the Cinderella run to the Final 4. That doesn't necessarily mean we have to pay that to get a very good coach. But, I do think we are gonna have be in the $300-500K range to get a solid reputable coach...I'm not sure we are there yet as a program. My opinion.

Of course, my opinion is just that.

You can't hire a basketball coach in the CAA for $200k if that's where you're at. What is the going rate? We're near the bottom in the CAA: www.wect.com/2020/03/16/uncw-agrees-five-year-contract-with-takayo-siddle/The five-year deal that was signed on March 13, will pay Siddle a base salary of $300,000, and can receive supplemental compensation of $75,000 in year one, with increasing increments of $25,000. By comparison, former coach C.B. McGrath also had a base pay of $300,000 annually, but supplemental pay started at $100,000 in year one and increased $25,000 throughout the terms of his contract. · Siddle’s $25,000 increases in years two through five are conditioned upon the following performance incentives; Completion of 16 radio shows and 16 TV shows and cooperation with internet or other marketing as reasonably requested by the Athletic Director;

Here is a snippet of what is being discussed with our future conference opponent at UNCW. See below:

Phillip Schumpert is the Interim Head Coach.
What a standout program.

Let's not forget UNCW missed a CAA tournament on academic suspension and fired two coaches mid season. We've had our share of embarassing moves.
As we entered a new conference or nah?
The CAA made moves hoping to elevate the conference, it's not a good look for a conference scraping and clawing for a shred of relevance.

Meh. CAA was 12th in conference RPI last year, which is about where we can expect to be annually. Should we be better than the Southern Conference? Probably. A-10? West Coast? I'm not sure.
A&T won the MEAC reg season in 2021 and struggled in the Big South last year. Their coaching situation is not great, but they still have some talent on their roster. I don't think this really impacts the CAA's reputation.
Perhaps I should clarify. The CAA reputation is already in the dumps. It didn't go up by adding some 2nd rate teams up and down the east coast. I'm not saying it was going up either, only that this adds to the dumpster fire of opinion about the CAA.

Can we afford to pay him and get a 200K+ coach? Something to think about. I know no one is going to agree with this because you leave the women coach vacant hell hire the women coach he's a proven winner

Since we've been "stuck" in the CAA as VCU, George Mason, ODU and now JMU moved on, we have a lot of fans who think we should have been in a position to move with them to a "better" conference. Reality vs. perception. I like the addition of A&T and Campbell and we have a contingent who don't. Add to this the potential for a good in state rivalry and this should be fun. I graduated from Western Guilford HS so I have some leftover good vibes related to the Greensboro area and I see A&T in a completely different light than many others as a result. But yeah, this should be some good motivation for fans to start the hate.....:-)

82hawk, no need to go there. All fan bases have their share of prognosticators that are a little off. I choose to call them fans as opposed to supporters. And they overwhelmingly didn't compete in athletics themselves, otherwise they would know better.

Until then see you in Greensboro on January 7th. Let the hate begin!
