IMHO this move had to be in the works since last season ended. I like Koach personally, but we all know that he had some shortcomings as a true D1 coach. That debacle at Longwood was very telling last season. There’s no way that crap is gonna fly in the CAA! If we were still playing in the Big South he would’ve likely been retained, but the sudden move to the CAA changed everything. I’m thinking that the CAA wants to be similar to the A10 in basketball, which means that an upgrade in coaching needed to happen now!

I just had a thought. Jones DID at least solve the NCCU puzzle, in holding His own vs Moton. I loved those games.

In the past that would have kept him here for another 20 years. I guess the fact that he couldn't schedule a game with them this year was the straw that broke the camel's back. LOL

Am from another HBCU and love to give another observation and critical thinking on your coach termination/firing. 1. Terminating a coach at the first day of classes. Never heard of this before. Coaches are hired and fired for wins and loses normally. Koch Jones had a winning record. If this was because of a NCAA violation or criminal violation there would be an investigation a suspension, then termination. This has a fishy smell. This will be litigated in civil court unless there some nude pictures the AD has . I might take this case. Lol 2. If the AD just got the evidence to terminate Koch Jones, I got some properties in New York City really cheap. This was done strategically because of the transfer portal. University of South Carolina fired their coach and within a week, their top 7 players went in the portal and will be playing for other schools. A basketball player is there because of the coach not the school. Old school way, the players were there because of the school. It’s not that way now, new generation . 3. Your paid Koch Jones less than 200k. In the MEAC the only school paid less is Del State. In the SWAC that would be dead last. Just dropping some knowledge. Good luck SWAC folks lie so much, lord Jesus. My uncle from Alabama lies a lot too…it’s cultural! www.thenewsstar.com/story/sports/college/gsu/2021/06/24/grambling-state-basketball-coaches-donte-jackson-freddie-murray-contract/7772521002/Grambling State has given both of its basketball coaches to two-year contract extensions. Men's coach Donte Jackson and women's coach Freddie Murray are both set to make $130,000 annually under the new terms, each earning a $2,400 per year raise from their previous deals. It has happened before (not saying it is the case here) It just strikes me as odd that none of the players have came forward and questioning TVs dismissal . Has anyone close to the program talk to any of the players ? Players had a meeting yesterday and were told the circumstances. Don’t think we will have a player exodus, but next few weeks will tell. Hopefully you are correct!

bottom line...the timing is a direct result of poor decisions made during the summer period. those decisions were supposed to be quietly corrected. A suspension was given by admin and the terms were blatantly violated by the leader. There's not a conspiracy at play....just dumb choices and a lack of personal control.....Admin had no choice....

So are you saying rules were broken AFTER the suspension?

Thanks, POMMIE! That's good news, IMHO.
And for some reason, I really like that next-to-last photo. Shows a little unity.

Quick observation. A&T is in the enviable position that many players come because of the school, not the coach. And it isn't easy to find a replacement school for A&T if that's where a player wants to go. You're at the top of the heap of HBCU's. Seems like football is funded but the rest of your sports suffer. You can't hire a basketball coach in the CAA for $200k if that's where you're at. If you can keep your existing players from transferrring because of this coach you should be good going forward.
I know the FLO deal seems like a bad deal, but it may be a great deal for A&T. FLO only wants the rights to online streaming and leaves open the door for A&T to negotiate television broadcast deals for all sports. I'd have to think that would be attractive to a school that has a large fan base that covers a large geogrpahy. And if that can happen, you may see a quick escalation of revenues for the athletic department. ESPN gives you more exposure, but they control all rights to broadcasting and right now pay little or nothing for those rights. Short of a great CAA wide deal with ESPN that includes payment to schools for those broadcasting rights, FLO is the best deal you may get to better fund your athletics.
