This vaccine won't be available for athletes until the Fall at the earliest. It's becoming clearer that schools will be dealing with this stuff for a good while. Agreed! It will be around for a good while.
But you don't think any other conferences other than the MEAC will have problems in the Fall?? They aren't the only conference with merely 5 teams geared up to play a Spring schedule, you know?Money and leadership will be differences in this era,

Why do you say that about the MEAC's Fall season?? This vaccine won't be available for athletes until the Fall at the earliest. not true. the vaccines are expected to be widely available to the general public in "late spring to summer 2021", not fall 2021, particularly not fall 2021 "at the earliest". "at the earliest" the vaccines are expected to be available to the general public by "late spring 2021", long before the start of fall 2021 football... www.prevention.com/health/a34701430/covid-19-vaccine-distribution-release-date/“It is unlikely that the general public will have access to the vaccine until late spring to summer of 2021,” Dr. Adalja says. Expect a widely available vaccine in late spring to summer 2021...

I'm not seeing that we need the MEAC at this point, because the MEAC isn't a cohesive unit and you don't know who is in or out week to week. Teams are opting out willy-nilly. NSU opts out of football a week after the football media event, after saying they were ready to compete with A&T SCSU, WTF. If the thinking is there is some championship rainbow out there, then we are just chasing the mythical pot of gold. It's ain't worth it.
This talk of self-hate is also ridiculous, there nothing wrong with calling a spade a spade. I don't have a problem with the schools opting out, in fact I applaud them, but to make a commitment to other conference members and then leave them hanging, c'mon man! Then you continue to put athletes in other sports on the playing surface is just BS, calling that out ain't self-hate. NCCU basketball just returned from COVID Florida. Their basketball program has been in quarantine for a month. Give me a break. These schools knew back in November just like BCU, if they had the resources to accommodate Fall, Winter and Spring sports between January and April. This ain't self-hate, but stupidity for schools with limited resources to think they could pull this off, especially without generating any revenue along the way. So I don't call it self-hate but stupidity and that goes for North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University.

We are members of the MEAC conference. If we could have declared independence I'm pretty sure we would have by now

We can. All these schools that are opting out whenever they feel like it are basically declaring their independence.
What type of conference guidelines do you think people are still adhering to?

Howard hasn't played a men's basketball game since December. And they just decided yesterday that they were pulling the plug on the rest of their season. The remaining conference schedule for other MEAC teams be damned.
Do you think that is a school that is following conference guidelines?

Thrilla, you are right because, the conference has no leverage at this point in time and schools have to make independent decisions based on their individual situations. I just don't think there necessarily anyone person(s) to blame. They are making the best decisions with the latest information they have in hand.
