Like how the hell did NCCU jump us in being the top HBCU brand in basketball in the state of NC?? I mean I know that Central has had some success lately on the court, but to gain the attention of Lebron and his son??? We ain't flexing enough and our social media game has got to step up. That's why I was imploring us to reclaim Taraji Henson, celebrate our connection with Maseo who was a founding father of funk, and really work on getting our name and our brand into the right circles so that we are even more visible than we currently are. Which gets back to my original critique....what visibility is the BS going to give us that the MEAC didn't? Our peak in enrollment coincided with 4 out of 5 years of being featured on national network television, a benefit that was afforded to us as champions of the MEAC. With that possibility gone after 2020, where will our national brand be solidified? Winning a national title in track? Continuing to lean upon the popularity of the GHOE brand? All of those would be great. But I fear that our failure to strike while the iron is hot and become entrenched into the zeitgeist of Black popular culture is waning now and will be further weakened by a move to the BS (unless we mess around and win the FCS playoffs...and not just a game or two in the opening rounds). If Lebron's son signs with NCCU our days as being the top dog in this state are going to be severely threatened. Just imagine Lebron being courtside in McDougald-Mclendon gym and pumping money into their program. Advantage NCCU and MAJOR advantage for the MEAC...we need to step it up big time. If Lebron's son signs with anyone it may just be with Howard because of the signing of a legitimate big man which would make his life a lot easier. The only problem I see is does Lebron's son have the grades to compete in the classroom. Bronny is class of 23, Makar will be in the league by then

I see him being around for at least two seasons

I think we have a coach that will do just that. Remember, he's officially been our coach for less than a month at this point. And he does seriously push the HBCU niche.

It has to be more than the coach though. It has to be an institutional mindset. We have to constantly be in FLEX mode and pushing the brand, especially in this climate of kids strongly considering the HBCU experience. Moton realizes the iron is hot and he is STRIKING and so is NCCU's sports marketing team. We have to meet and exceed that energy. We have WAYYYY more to flex about than NCCU does....so let's do it.

Come on man A&T is in the right position it needs to be in with the recruites and the coaches we need . Howard gets a possibly great player and some on here start to panic. Hale I'm not a person that is Starstruck . We have the players coach Jones feels that he needs that can play defense run the up Tempo system and stretch a opponents defense from the inside out beyond the 3-point Arc .Most of A&T's returning player's have been tested at this level and I feel that Coach Jones believes they can put A&T on the road to the next level.I just do not feel that A&T is behind the curve and definitely not behind Howard . If there is a season we see who holds the best hand .

Freeze, from an alumni standpoint what could/ should we be doing to help assist with this? We talk about how we would like to see thing to make sure our brand is strong that comes from the university, students, alumni and community. How do we Flex more? how do we encourage the university to flex more?

Freeze, from an alumni standpoint what could/ should we be doing to help assist with this? We talk about how we would like to see thing to make sure our brand is strong that comes from the university, students, alumni and community. How do we Flex more? how do we encourage the university to flex more? 1. Embrace our legacy as an epicenter for the civl rights activism that launched the most important social revolution of the 20th century. It's the most important contribution our beloved alma mater has made to this country and we need to wear it on our sleeve. And I don't mean just the sit-ins either. For the record, I have not seen us issue one public statement regarding the current social unrest. Perhaps I missed it. We should lead on this subject - on a national level. George Floyd was born in Fayetteville. They held public protests following his murder in Fayetteville and Raeford. The governor issued a statement for his funeral which was held in Fayetteville. Did A&T issue a statement? Don't we recruit a ton of students from this area? Texas Southern quite publicly offered Floyd's daughter a scholarship to attend school there. It made CNN: www.cnn.com/2020/06/10/us/texas-southern-university-george-floyd-daughter/index.htmlWhy didn't we offer a scholarship?? 2. Utilize ALL of our social media platforms and ESPECIALLY the ones that young people are on. FAM, Howard , Morehouse, and Spelman have VERY active Instagram accounts. I follow all of them. I also follow A&T and by comparison, these other leading HBCUs appear far more active. I am not on Snapchat or Tik Tok but I suspect they are also active on there as well. 3. Leverage the fact that we are the LARGEST HBCU in the country and we have played a central role in the social and political development of America. In case we haven't noticed, people are looking to support Black causes and Black institutions right now. And by support I mean cut checks: www.commercialappeal.com/story/news/education/2020/07/02/lemoyne-owen-college-receives-40-million-endowment-community-foundation/5363525002/www.cnn.com/2020/06/17/business/netflix-ceo-hbcus-donate-trnd/index.htmlwww.bizjournals.com/chicago/news/2020/06/25/mcdonalds-launches-scholarship-for-hbcu-students.htmlBe SURE to read this first paragraph....because we need to stress this not only to would be students and parents, but to potential high profile donors too: www.washingtonpost.com/education/2020/07/02/how-protest-movement-could-help-hbcus-through-school-year-upended-by-covid-19/This last article is why I decided to break my silence about my concern moving to the BS. I do NOT argue that we are losing our blackness as an institution by making the move. But I would by lying if I didn't state that it bothers me that we are abandoning a family/conference of HBCUs that we helped to found during a historical moment when HBCUs can provide an answer for our social and political ills that PWI's have never strived to do. And I would rather be associated with the former group of institutions than the latter. Like all of you, I am extremely proud to be an AGGIE. That means something....now more than ever. We have to remember that and make sure the world remembers that too.

GREAT! Like I said, perhaps I missed it and it appears that I did. But we should go further and be a beacon during this moment and in doing so seize the national spotlight. We should have offered Floyd's daughter a scholarship and explained why it made sense for the HBCU that played one of the most pivotal roles in the civil rights movement to do so. "Mother Shaw" just did this...we should have done it a long time ago: www.thehbcuadvocate.com/?p=5046

But why is Moton gaining national attention and being interviewed on ESPN because of his boldness in making claims like this: www.forbes.com/sites/adamzagoria/2020/05/31/north-carolina-central-coach-levelle-moton-calls-out-white-power-five-coaches-in-wake-of-george-floyds-death/#3e0574ac444fLike I said...Moton gets it and its brining him and NCCU acclaim (and possibly Lebron Jr.). Remember who we are and let it be known.

That is Moton not the school... You cant expect every coach to speak out like that, those are his personal view points.

That is Moton not the school... You cant expect every coach to speak out like that, those are his personal view points. You don't think when Coach K speaks it doesn't represent Duke? When Saban speaks it does't represent Alabama? (although he rarely speaks on anything outside of football) Moton is becoming the public FACE of NCCU and that's a good thing for them (especially in this political climate). Coach K came out the other day and gave a MAJOR endorsement for the movement: www.cnn.com/videos/sports/2020/06/27/duke-coach-mike-krzyzewski-black-lives-matter-granderson-nr-sot-vpx.cnnNow whether he believes what he said or not, Coach K realizes that he has to go in to the homes of some of the most elite Black talent in the country and recruit them. He effectively got out front of other coaches who will make that same recruitment trip and that statement will probably help him (along with the money they give to the recruits...lol. Just joking...but not really). He also said this just a few days AFTER Moton made his public statement calling out the silence of white coaches. Coincidence?? I think not. But back to the subject at hand...the liberation of Black folks has been a core mission for HBCUs since their inception. We can't afford to let this moment AND this movement go by and not remind folks of that. Doing so, may just bring us new talent (both academic and athletic) and new forms of financial support.
