ooouch! i was afraid that would happen. nonetheless, you can never blame a kid for transferring. the kid must do whatever makes him happy. its a big lost, but we wish you well “dj”...

I assume him transferring will have no effect on the APR as long as he is in good academic standing ? Will Burroughs leaving the team have an effect ?

I assume him transferring will have no effect on the APR as long as he is in good academic standing ? Will Burroughs leaving the team have an effect ? It depends on whether Deion and Steve transfer to 4-year schools. If Deion ends up in JUCO, then we will lose a retention APR point. Steve? It depends on how his academics finish out. I will say this... the big winner in all of this is Nick Reese. Reese has two years of being a starting stretch-4 at the D1 in his horizon. And, IMO, he has the skillset to be a viable starter. Kudos to him for persevering.... and it's going to be interesting to see how well he steps into that role. I'm excited for him.

And Jamin Lackey ? As things currently stand we have 2 stretch 4's (including Lacky) on the roster and one center.
Also is the status of the big guy from NY Latek Laney still up in the air? I did see a couple sights confirm he grew a couple inches as they list him at 6'10.

There are no big winners here......we need to recruit better. If we had difference makers already on the team, they would have been playing more than they did. I said this before, when Joyner got the job, HE GAVE EVERYBODY A CHANCE TO PLAY AND PROVE HIS WORTH......
The only person who I saw take advantage of this was Edi. I was at the games. Joyner wasn't rigid with who he wanted on the floor. When you inherit a 6-17 team, you throw stuff against the wall and see what sticks. Edi stuck.......I just don't recall any other bench players who made the most of the chances Joyner gave them.
We have to recruit better. The coach and his staff have to have a better eye for talent and a better idea of how to construct a team. Having a whole bunch of talented wing players......with no point guard or center........will have you at 10-22 and 9-23 yet again.

There's a kid by the name of Alex Brown coming to A&T tomorrow to work out for the coach. He's 6'4" and played for Brunswick Community College where he averaged about 17 points a game. He's an honor student and kinda quiet off the court but he comes alive on the basketball court. If he chooses A&T he might soften the lost of Deion James. Keep your fingers crossed.

I tend to say that we lost a STUDENT-athlete in James. Good luck to James and good luck to Coach Joyner. I wonder what was it about the program and the coach that ultimately made him transfer. Obviously he got more playing time under the new coach and he was one of only a few bigs we had at 6'8", looks like he was primed to start next year....strange.....

Sounds like he could be good for the program but I have to ask myself how many shooting guards can we have on the team...

Could have been carry over from the coaching style of Cy ? Some times wounds do not heal for a player that even playing time can't fix So it is better for both parties to part ways On good terms with no explanation given by either party But I have a strange feeling that we will see James again Some where in the MEAC and it may just be right up or down I 85

I dont think so being that he is from Tuscon; I see him showing up maybe at N. Arizona or one of the Cal State schools.

He might walk on to a larger school. Who knows? He has plenty of options, although I believe his best option would have been to stick with A&T and see it through to graduation.

I can see your point about staying until he graduates . But if you have made up your mind why stay if you don't really want to be there ! It is better for both A&T and Mr James to move on . Hale I Bleed Blue and Gold but sometime that is Not enough ! Some times you just have to move on and do what is best for not only as and athlete but you as a student/person ! Some programs or not the right fit and when you see it you have that Option to move or stay! My opinion is that James had made up his mind to leave for what ever reason and he has to own it, just as I owned my reason for transferring from Tee but I used that to motivate me at my next school As James will do wherever he lands !
