I think so far this season has produced some positive results and also some glaring weaknesses. Without a doubt we are short-handed numbers-wise and in certain areas talent-wise. Coaching has been a plus and changing negative perceptions within the minds and attitudes of our student-athletes has been a process that is a work in progress.
Coaching---"Funky B" has given all of us an opportunity to be optimistic and expectations are rising again. The man has been a winner errrrwhere he has gone and this mentally has rubbed off on the coaching staff and team. Broadway is really not working with a lot in the totality of a team concept. We have a few playmakers and a few overachievers. I think he has been a little "over-conservative" in a couple of game situations but overall, at this point, he gets a A grade. Pizzo (OC)-- gets a B- because the offense is running a lot smoother this year w/less time clock violations but the O line has had too many penalities at the line of scrimmage. Pizzo does have to work harder w/QB Kindle on his mechanics and check downs (more on this). Coach, please find a way to utilize ALL of your playmakers!!! Offense--gets a C because Kindle has talent but, in reality, he has only started 11 or 12 games his whole career. Pizzo needs to concentrate on getting Kindle to go through his progressions and read the whole field. Kindle will get better. Get the ball in the hands of ALL of your playmakers!!! Mayhew produces despite being injured the whole season. R. Lewis, L. Raper, T. Warren we gotta get them in the flow (this is major). Defense--gets a B because I think this his been our MOST consistent unit. Our front 7 I think has played up to their potential, especially w/the offense being inconsistent and lack of depth. Secondary-one of the best moves was to take Ferrell from Safety and move him to CB. SS Crosby is improving but we miss shutdown and playmaker supreme CB D'Vonte Graham ("little Darrell Revis"). Special Teams-gets a D+ because our K Comancho has missed only one PAT and connected on most of his field goal attempts. He is a freshman and will only get stronger and better. Coverage so far has been good with only one return given up for a TD all year. However, punting is WEAK. I am surprised that "Funk-Funk" has not turned it over to Wallace Miles. Yes, Miles can kick field goals and punt!!! I have confidence that Broadway will make improvements next year.

Coaching : A- Not much to work with but did fine with what he had. OC : B- hope fully will open up the (O) more need better (O) line man. Offense : C- QB needs a lot of work has no Vision on the field, Need a good back-up. Receivers Raper need more confidence from his QB (should have had more catches then he did) T.Warren (confidence in self) at hurts when your open and the balls not coming your way. DL/LB : B+ played above expectations DS: C- missed to many easy tackles needs to focus more. SP Teams D- : always have room to improve bug gave up big yards in close games most make more big plays . need to understand that they are just as impotent as the starters. You can only ask one player to do so much. Miles kicking after all that running could cause a pull , them we have lost the top receiver.

I pray we get a couple of receivers ready to make an impact after the year is over The problem is not so much the receivers it's the QB not having the field vision to hit the right receiver. Why have a group of outstanding Receivers and a QB that can't make good judgements to get them the ball.

Coaching (B+): Enough said about this. OC (C+): Great in quarters 1, 2, & 3 and outside the Red Zone. Not so good in the Red Zone and in the 4th quarter with the game on the line in. Not aggressive, creative & diverse late in the game, therefore, defensives stop our offense Quarterback (C+): QB needs to do a better job of reading defenses and changing the play to take what the opposing defense gives him. Running Backs (A-): Mayhew is great and Drake is excellent Offensive Line (B-): Sometime inconsistent late in the game Receivers (C+): Miles is outstanding, Lewis is Ok, Raper is getting better and what happen to Warren since coming back from his injury? DL/LB (B+): playing well and appear to get tired late in the game which is understandable b/c of our limited scholarship and the offense going 3 & out some much. DB (C-): Play too far of the other team's receivers. Willing to give up the short pass which sometime become long runs and touchdowns SP Teams (F): Very poor punting, placekicking is worse now than at the beginning at the season and kick coverage is getting worse (e.g. Howard's return for a TD) Overall (C+): Great improvement over last year, they now demonstrate the discipline, organization and purpose that one would expect from an Aggie football. Glad to see such great improvement in one year. If they keep this up, next year we'll be a legitimate contender for the conference championship.

I give the team a B for the season. They are a few plays from being undefeated in the MEAC. I know they don't give consolation prizes, but I just remember teams that were so bad offensively, that a fake punt was their most effective play. This team is ranked in the top tier of the MEAC both offensively and defensively. And since this is basically Lee's team, I give the coaches an A for doing so much with so little. The coaches are to but the team in a position to win. I think they have done that. The offense gets a B. Not for what they have not done, but for what they have done. Don't know if anyone has noticed, but they have beat their opponent in time of possession the last 2 weeks. Before you can win wars you have to win battles. Defense gets a B also. I remember the HUGH wholes that were carved in our defensive line last year. Now they lead the MEAC in rushing defense. I really don't Know what team you all are looking at.. You have 2 corners playing out of position. Young safeties, and very little pass rush. That is a very bad combination, yet they continue to compete. I remember many of you giving this team maybe 2 wins at the beginning of the season. Now you are upset because they won't win the MEAC. This team has the nucleus of something special. How about giving them some encouragement on what they HAVE done.

Why have a group of outstanding Receivers and a QB that can't make good judgements to get them the ball. saabman, i didn't see the famu nor the norfolk games, so i haven't commented on the team's overall performance in those games. but i will say this regarding your assessment of kindle. i watched some video of last week's drive to win the game in norfolk and i saw kindle "perfectly" place the ball squarely in the hands of both raper and warren, and both of them "dropped" game winning passes that i'm sure miles would've caught blindfolded (a little exaggeration, but ya get my point). when a qb puts a receiver in perfect position to make a "game winning" clutch play and they drop it, typically he loses confidence in that receiver(s). sure, the qb should spread the ball around. but when you have a receiver who "aggressively" goes after the ball and holds onto difficult catches like miles does, you tend to go to that player more often than the others. it all comes down to "reliability" and miles is reliable. no disrespect, but i can't say that for the rest of our receivers...

Broadway and staff have "treated " us to an OVERachieving season SO Far(A LOSS to nccu would NEGATE that overACHIEVING!!!) . The lack of DEPTH in my opinion, is the major cause of us not being able to FINISH OFF games that we should/could have won, i.e. Howard,Norfolk, and FAMU.

I stated in another post that I expected us to lose ALL our close games cause we didnt have the debt to stay fresh in a "dog fight". What I didn't expect was them to prove me right 3 games in a row. SCSU will probably be another close one that we cant pull out and then we will blow NCCU out.

Well, I will say this...and I mean no disrespect to any of the current players on the team. But, if you have butterfingers when the ball comes your way...you better believe in the coming years Broadway is going to have someone out on the field who can hold onto it when it comes their way. Just mark my word. I know I thought to myself, "man, what are we gonna do next year when Miles is gone?" But, looking back on Broadway's history, he's gonna get somebody that can catch that ball. So, my advice to the younger receivers on the team, work on your hands in the offseason...that's all. Next year, the conversations about why he won't play this or that guy will be null and void.
