Aggie... Please help us iggnornat aggie baseball fans understand how a local Juco coach could bring more to the progrma than Sanchez. Can a local coach get the kids from PR,DR,Cuba, etc that you feel we need. Does a local juco coach know more about what it takes to win in Meac than Sanchez? Can a local coach recruit better locally than Coach Love and Sanchez? Will a local Juco coach bring a better pitching background than Sanchez? Will a local Coach get A&T admin to commit more resources that you do not seem to believe they will. Actually you sound a lot like a disgruntled juco coach who did not get the job??? Not a disgruntled juco coach, but former DI coach and administrator...I know most of the juco coaches in NC and SC, some very well. Coach Frazier at Louisburg is a friend and would verify what I said about LC. I know that the jc coaches in NC operate on meager at best budgets and most of the coaches do way more with way less than A&T could ever imagine. Tommy Eason at Pitt, Frank Pait at CVCC, John Barrow at Guilford Tech are 3 of many who would have done wonders at A&T. These guys know the high school coaches in NC and SC and have good relationships with pretty much all of them. They all, especially Barrow, get kids from DR, PR, Cuba, Florida, NY, etc now with limited resources- why couldn't they at A&T? Looking at Barrow's rosters over the years, he also does a great job getting minority players and developing them (don't even act like this isn't an issue at HBCU's). Barrow and Eason both have DI experience at better places than Sanchez (Barrow at App and Tulane, Eason at ECU) and Pait was a great head coach at Lenoir Rhyne. All three have and do recruit better locally NOW and will continue (also, just because jucos can recruit different players than DI doesn't necessarily mean they do. There are many DI qualifiers on all of their rosters). They would also utilize the jucos in the Carolinas that the previous staff did not. These guys win in a tougher league with tougher competition than the MEAC. Lastly, they all are and have been HEAD COACHES. It is different being the boss than it is being an assistant. I don't know if these guys applied (I am pretty sure Barrow did) or if they even interviewed, but looking at the entire body of work they do and have done, they would have been better choices.

Most JUCO Colleges place a higher emphasis on baseball. Some only field, soccer, baseball and indoor sports, so the resources for Baseball are greater there. Mount Olive College and Louisburg are two example of this. Mt Olive is not a juco. Ask one of the coaches at Louisburg about the resources they have and I KNOW you will hear something completely different than you posted here. Also, by your rationale why didn't A&T consider juco coaches here in NC? There are some pretty damn good ones. It is amazing how little A&T folks know about baseball. No wonder there is no support for the program. AGGIE-- You have tried your best to poison the Aggie fan base, but it hasn't worked. You didn't get the job... GIVE IT UP... and LET IT GO!! (And I pray that you are not one of my former teammates! )

I didn't apply for the job b/c I know it would be one headache after another...besides my coaching days are over. I am just saying that not only was the whole coaching "search" a complete debacle, but also they ended up with someone who is, at best, equal to others around here (including Love). I would be interested to see who all was interviewed.

Aggie..... you know what they say about opinions and obviously we have different ones. If the baseball is at such a high level at GTCC why would Barrow come to unsupported Rec. ball at A&T. Looking at his Bio he was 16 games under 500 coming into the 2011 season, 2011 results are not updated. So I guess you are not concerned with results just the fact he was in charge. Just out of curiosity what minority players has he sent on to D1 and how did they do? How many All Americans, Draft picks, etc. You should really change your name to anti-Aggie, you are a bitter man. You also said you were perplexed that A&t hired a guy that apparently took a step down by ending up at Daytona state but I noticed Barrow went from Tulane to High school coach? Sounds like you have a double standard when it comes to being perplexed?....

If you read Barrow's bio then you would see that he STARTED not one, but TWO programs from SCRATCH. With both programs, he was a win away from a Regional Championship and two wins away from a trip to the World Series within the first 4 years in both programs (including this past season at GTCC). Not bad for two start up programs. It is also pretty impressive to me considering community college athletics receive $0 from the state of NC and their entire budget is based on fund raisers and donations that the coaches solicit. I got to watch his 2011 team play and they were damn good...finished like 10 games over .500 even though they had a record number of rainouts, and practice and play at a high school field that is only fairly cooperative with their schedule. There are actually two (2) minority players that A&T signed THIS YEAR that come from GTCC (one of which quit after a week of practice because it was too hard- doesn't say much for A&T signing him). He has 4 or 5 former guys in pro ball right now. Elon thinks right much of his program considering they have taken 3 or 4 of his players in the past two years. ECU picked up on of his guys last year as well. I don't know if Barrow would have come to A&T, or if he was even interviewed (I haven't seen him in a while). I do know that he is a very good coach and an even better person. I don't know why he left Tulane to go to a high school job. Maybe it was because he hated New Orleans (which I would understand). I don't know...you would have to ask him that yourself. If Sanchez is smart, then he will give him a call and develop a relationship to funnel players to A&T...something Shumate never took the time to do. I don't understand why I am bitter just because I disagree with decisions that were made. Should I just sit back and say "oh well"? Disagreement is not bitterness. Message boards allow for the expression of opinion. This is my opinion. If it is not well liked, then feel free to not respond.

You pumped this guy up yet you refuse to answer questions. Also earlier you said he interviewed now you have not talked to him in a while. So which is it?According to you he recruits better ballplayers and develop minority players so he is way ahead of game as far as A&t is concerned. We know the inferior under coached kids that have been named all American and been drafted into the league over the last decade or so from A&t. So give me some minority names from barrow, there has to be a boat load. Also he is a grad assistant for half a year at App and half a year at Tulane and you try to compare his D1 experience to Sanchez. You got to be freakin kidding right? Also News flash Aggie, we have a established program. This ain't no start up. Why should we care about his experience starting up Juco programs?

"A while" can be interpreted as a few days, a few weeks, a few months...etc. It has been a couple of weeks since I last spoke with him. Grad assistants are at least a year. Bethune Cookman < Tulane at all levels regardless of time. I don't need a newflash, but to say A&T baseball is established is a stretch. They have a team. It needs rebuilding...maybe not a start up, but definitely a new start. A guy who started with absolutely nothing twice and built successful programs by himself twice should be considered. If you think GTCC (or any other juco in NC) is not up to par with mighty A&T, then talk Sanchez into playing one or two of them. You will be surprised at the outcome...I guarantee. Talk to Barrow himself if you want to know names, signings, etc. He is pretty approachable. I am sure he wouldn't mind telling you. Keep drinking the coolaid, dad. I know you are taking up for your son, and I respect that, but don't let the trees block you from seeing the forest. I hope your son does well (seriously, I do). I hope to get out and see some games this year at Memorial. I have my opinions about how the search went and who they hired, but I guess it is a moot point now anyway. Good luck to the A&T baseball team this year.

LOL. Aggie I find it amusing you can spit out wins, losses, start up's, fund raising but just draw a blank when it comes to the superior kids he has recruited right from under A&T's nose and he has developed to a even greater level because he is a supreme developer of talent. Know all the facts before you pump a guy up not just the ones you want to mention. His bio also said he had his first kid drafted in 2009?... Also says he was on App staff in 1998 in then on Tulane's later that year. Does not even sound like he made spring 1999 at Tulane. As far as my son goes I will let his own play speak for him. Barrow may be a very good coach and I am sure a nice man but he is not the superior candidate you make him out to be. Could GTCC beat A&T sure, it is possible. Would they win a best 4 out of 7. I doubt it, they have some good players but at the end of the day they are freshman and sophomores. Why don't you ask Barrow to call Sanchez. You are the former D1 coach and administrator with ties to both schools! I would love to see it!,,

I am sorry that I haven't memorized his roster this year or for the past 4 years. I am also pretty sure you would be surprised at the talent they have had and currently have...many are kids that would have been or would be starters at A&T. Not meant to be a knock on A&T, GTCC has talent that good. If you don't believe that, then ask the 3 players that transferred to GTCC FROM A&T. They seemed to think this was true. I would bet that there are 10-12 guys on that team now (pitchers included) that would play significantly for A&T today (as well as other DI schools). Again, not knocking A&T players, but the guys at GTCC are really that good. they will contend for a world series berth this year. anyone with any sort of baseball mind can see that. You should check them out if you get a chance. I wouldn't even go as far as to say they wouldn't win 4 out of 7 from A&T either. From what I understand, GTCC returns like 15 or 16 guys from last year's Regional runner up team...including all but 1 pitcher. The the 4 weekend starters I saw pitch for them last year are all DI prospects. Like I said, if Sanchez is smart then he will get in touch. The coaches at Elon are already working the pipeline for GTCC, no reason that A&T shouldn't get in on it. Sorry, I don't know the man's life history...can't give specifics about his past. Again, you will have to ask him that yourself.

Once again do not name push if you do not know the facts. You seem to have intimate knowledge of his kids progression, how many would start at A&T, A&T transfers opinions on A&T starters vs GTCC starters but can't recall minority players he has developed and how far they advanced or what they achieved. Hmmm mm??. Also glad to see he has room for 3 inferior A&T players with all the superior talent he is recruiting abroad and at home. No doubt they were big time contributors for us to get this opportunity at GTCC and they will be missed! LOL
Bethune does a good job of mixing Juco guys, transfers and freshman recruits. I am sure that is a lesson learned by Sanchez in his 8 years under Melendez and hopefully he is successful getting some talent from you Coach, I mean Aggie!

I tried to be nice, and have only expressed my opinions...it has not been an attack on anyone. I am sorry that I want MY SCHOOL to be good in baseball. I mention Barrow because I know him better than the others I mentioned and have had the chance to see his teams more over the past 4 years than the others. Truth be told, ANY of the coaches mentioned would be better options than Sanchez for a myriad of reasons. Go ahead and snicker and think A&T baseball is actually good. New flash- it isn't. It is a laughing stock. It was when I was there, and continues to be. I wish no bad luck to your son, but he is wasting time at A&T playing baseball. I hate to feel that way about MY SCHOOL, but I know I am not the only one. Agree to disagree or whatever, it is always sad to see how bad the level of baseball is at MY SCHOOL, yet dads like you who think they know something think it is the pinnacle of college baseball because it's DI. Like I said before, don't let the trees block your view of the forest. It is sad that jucos and D2 schools are better options than A&T in baseball. It is sad that jucos and D2 schools have better programs than A&T, and would not only beat A&T but beat them easily. You should get out more.

LOL. I think it sad you would mascarade as a former Aggie player and come on here and bash Aggie program, players, parents and coaches. Just because your feelings are hurt you did not get a interview and Shumate never reached out to you. Says a lot about your Character and maturity. If you are a former Aggie and your intentions and concerns are truly about making A&T better identify yourself, proove me wrong. You are the laughing stock AGGIE!,,,

I don't like the direction the program is going. We were REALLY bad when I played...I thought Shumate did an admirable job getting it to where he did, and I am afraid it will sink back down to where it was when I was there if we are not careful. No, I didn't apply for this job...like I said before- my coaching days are done and have been for some time. I have no interest in getting into it again. Don't make this a personal attack on me. Again, all I did was come on and make my OPINIONS known...I am sorry if you don't like or agree with them.
