How do we ever expect to get a quality baseball coach and a quality team when we pay less than $40,000 salary for a head baseball coach compared to $75,000 for an ASSISTANT football coach? And I know football is a "money" sport, but give me a break...a new skybox for over 4 mil when the football team only won 1 game last year and signed NO ONE on national signing day? At least the baseball team, on its meager budget and no field of its own, makes a decent showing each year. IF the school would actually get behind a new coach and the team, they could really make A&T proud. The Aggie Stadium pressbox is an excellent investment...and I am not sure if athletic funds were even used for it. With Aggie Baseball (and I'm a former Aggie baseball player under Coach Groomes), I don't know if the head coach's salary is as much of a problem as the operating budget for baseball is. Aggierattler Im a former baseball player under BIG TEN and currently a memeber of the Baseball Alumni Association, Coaching was and is not the issue for the program, Austin can get the job done. Operating Budget and the ability to go after top notch pitching recruits out of State has been the achilles heal.

Bseballaggie,
As a parent of a a current player, I totally agree with you. Our coaching has not been the problem and I think Coach Love would be able to do an awesome job IF he had the resources to do so! Our position players are as good as any from what I've observed, but when it comes to pitching, we have to be able to attract some top-level pitchers in order to compete. (Not to say we don't have a couple who are pretty good). Also, it would be great if we had the monetary resources to hire specialized asst. coaches to develop the talent we have.

The players were told today by Coach Love, that he was not selected as their head coach. (It will probably be announced shortly that Joel Sanchez from Bethune will be the new coach)...this after he did the recruiting and the planning and the work for the upcoming season. The players were devastated...only one day after they were so pumped and excited at Coach Love's new intense workout plan, and the rest of the upcoming season before them. Sanchez may be a great head coach, but only if A&T gets behind him and supports the team financially. I just wish they would have given Coach Love a chance to prove himself.

I don't know if we played on the same Groomes-coached teams, but we did get some good talent out of South Carolina (like "Perk" and "Mookie") and Virginia, you know? (PM me when you get a chance to, OK?)

Coach Love really deserved a chance to lead this program.

Why did it take sooooo long? Did Sanchez say he would come to A&T if he didn't get the FAMU job? or what? Anyway, good luck baseball.

If it is Sanchez, then this is what jumps out to me in his bio: b-cuathletics.com/sports/m-basebl/mtt/sanchez_joel00.htmlSanchez's main duties at Bethune-Cookman include serving as the pitching coach for the Wildcats. He works tirelessly in that regard to make the B-CU pitching staff one of the "class" of the conference each year. Sanchez also serves as the recruiting coordinator for the Wildcats. Pitching is the main position where Bethune has been killing the conference. If Sanchez is the one that recruited these guys, then perhaps he can bring the same success to A&T.

i believe bcu had a lot of hispanics on their team over the years. don't know if sanchez can recruit those same kind of guys to a&t. besides, he'll probably have to compete with former bcu coach melendez to get those same recruits.
i don't know if he'll be a good pick or not, but if he's the one who got our job, he'd better be able to operate with a meager budget...

They along with a few SWAC schools recruited heavily from Puerto Rican baseball Academies.

Are there any other Aggie baseball fans out there? Love to know your opinions. I am still wondering why they have not made the coaching announcement yet...talk about taking the wind out of the players' sails...they are back to practicing with Coach Love but I am sure not with the same enthusiasm...and where is the new coach? And I was thinking....both FAMU and B-CU passed over Sanchez as head coach (he interviewed for both)...so why did we think he would be the right choice for A&T? Any thoughts?

Look in Texas!! It's a lot of good BB players in the JC and High school ranks out here. A lot of the kids in the Texas Panhandle are over looked. Check out Amarillo & Lubbock high schools. Vernon CC has a nice pitching group of kids. Check them out.

When will you people understand it doesn't matter how good the kids are if they are out of state we do not have the scholarships to recruit kids from out of state. IF we recruit out of state kids we can get about 8 kids from out of state and depend on walk-ons to field the rest of the team. Secondly Sanchez will bring in hispanic kids, but he will get what Bethune Cookman and Melendez from ASU didn't have room for. Oh yeah and when he brings them in I am assuming they are going to agree to walk-on b/c we cant afford to put out of state kids on scholarship. If he can't recruit from NC he will struggle hands down. That being said I hope he does well because I want to see A&T win being a former player. Coach Love worked hard for that job and it was a slap in the face to him and Coach Shumate who was endorsing Love for the job.

It would be comforting to know that Coach Love is continuing his support of Aggie baseball by showing the guys on the team that life goes your way and sometimes it doesn't. Hopefully Sanchez and Love will bring a game plan to Aggie baseball that will include bringing students and fans out to the games to show support. The slap in the face is if lessons aren't learned from everyone involved in the search for the new coach!!!!!!!!!!!

Let's just let them work this out together. You would be tremendously surprised what two people can do as oppossed to one if they are on the same page. Fortunatley they are both grownups and adults. They'll be just fine.
