even if the game doesn't count, i still don't have a problem with it. i'd much rather have what amounts to a live scrimmage (even against a club team) before traveling to app state, than not playing at all. if i were coach broadway, i wouldn't want to inherit a 1-10 team that has a gaping hole in its d-line, and then open my season debut on the road at a 3 time defending fcs national champion without some kind of a tuneup.
whether the game counts or not, i still don't care. i think folk tend to forget we got off to a late start in terms of football because we had to deal with a lot of other major events caused by the death of a track student. i mean, we essentially had to replace major personnel in our athletic department, implement corrective actions and rebuild our athletic department, which contributed to our late hiring of a football coach. then st. paul's pulls out on us at the 11th hour when just about everybody else's schedule was booked.
even if the vul game doesn't count, if i were broadway i'd still play it unless a better opponent could be found for 9/3. unfortunately, these are the cards we were dealt and that's what we have to operate with...

I agree Oleschoolaggie, and I will attend the game no matter who we play. A lot of these type teams have a bunch of players on their roster that could not get admitted into D1 programs. Don't be surprised if this team is a lot better than we think they are.

All of this is fine and dandy but if we somehow luck up and finish in a tie-breaker scenario for the MEAC title this season, the game not counting would come back and bite us in the butt.

As far as us finishing at the top or close to it is a joke. Lets just make the best of this season and build on it for the future

Just how difficult is it for A&T to just schedule a game on 9/17 and let all those who purchased season tickets already know of the change and accommodate them? Games are moved around all the time at other places. But it is what it is. Remember this is the "change in athletics" people were looking for

Change does not and will not happen overnight. We've been wandering in the wilderness since the end of 2003 season.

Virginia University of Lynchburg Hits Growth Spurt Posted: Jan 10, 2011 6:02 PM EST Reporter: Jeremy Mills Lynchburg, VA - A small Lynchburg university says it has a growing problem, and it's one most schools would gladly take on. The enrollment at Virginia University of Lynchburg is surging out of control and they're having trouble finding places to keep all the extra students. Karlos DeCosta just arrived from Washington D.C., ready to start his college career. He says he heard about Virginia University of Lynchburg from his family. "They told me it was a black historical college and I wanted to check it out and so far I like it," said DeCosta. He is part of a huge incoming class, more than a hundred have already registered. The school with 170 returning students might double in size this semester. "We got in four today, they are registering as I speak so we don't know where that magic number is going to be yet," said Virginia University of Lynchburg President Dr. Ralph Reavis, Sr. The problem is, the school's dorms are already full. Administrators say Liberty University Chancellor Jerry Falwell, Junior is offering to let the overflow stay at the Lynchburg Inn student housing on Odd Fellows Road. "With the help he is offering, we will be able to absorb the 100 that will be coming," said Dr. Reavis. Later this week, the school plans to bring in an athletic director.Over the next few years, it will add a football team and a basketball team.www.wset.com/story/13818217/virginia-university-of-lynchburg-hits-growth-spurt?redirected=true

Mr. Mayhew might have a chance to break Mr Hicks single game yards rushing record in this game.

Is there a limit to the number of organized scrimmages (other teams) we can have?

Change does not and will not happen overnight. We've been wandering in the wilderness since the end of 2003 season. Can we at least get a benchmark. Hate to make the direct comparison, But look at the woman at NCCU. She was hired as intern AD and then kept full on. She has lead them to a new level. They are on 2014 and 2015 football schedule. We took her idea to make the Aggie Game Zone. Look at her marketing and placement of NCCU on web and other media sites. And we can't even get a six month plan from Hilton. Hell a full football schedule. But i know , i should be patient huh. Have been since 2003, just watching everyone around us get better while we float in the water is becoming very irritating

i agree, central appears to have their act together. but they're not in the same predicament as we are.
they have a clean slate, they hired their coach long before we did, their ad has been in place long before ours, they did not reconstruct their athletic department, they did not suffer an athlete's death due to no physical being conducted, they have zero apr sanctions and they have a full allotment of scholarships.
i really don't think our situation can be compared to theirs or anybody else's...

We have no one but us to blame for the situations that we are in. Just because we have bigger issues than them doesn't excuse this mess.
Grambling ain't having these issues and lost a student athlete.

NCCU is in a more difficult situation: NCCU made a decision to go from Div II to Div I. This involves a complex process of increasing athletic programs; providing more scholarships; raising more funds; and dealing with higher NCAA academic requirements. In these trying times; NCCU have had a change in Chancellor, athletic director and head football coach (twice). During all of these changes, they have made better decisions. A&T has not made good decisions. So for this bad decisionmaking, you want to give A&T multiple passes, multiple mulligans, or "baby" A&T like a mother will "baby" her delinquent son without discipline and consequences. A&T is in the real world where you pay for bad decisionmaking. A&T made a bad decision in dealing with St Paul (due to their financial problems) and now A&T is making an even worst decision in dealing with either fools or con artists. Either way, A&T will lose out again dealing with VUL. This is not a cupcake game, this is a confidence game played on A&T, its season ticket holders and sadly to the football players who will play on the field if this so-called game actually happens. If this game happens, it will create very bad publicity for A&T and if this game falls apart come late August, it will create another string of bad publicity. I am hoping there are clearer thinkers around Dr. Martin who will come forward and stop this madness.

Now, it is official, the game is "on" and AD Hilton has asserted that the game will count in the NCAA record books. I still feel that both the game and the assertion are dubious.
The tried and true statement "you reap what you sow", will again be in evident in two years when VUL is facing bankruptcy coupled with the end of their foolish attempt to become well known through collegiate sports.
I am not going out on a limb on this one. We have seen it happen several times with a couple of HBCUs in Atlanta, GA and recently in VA with St Paul. These colleges were a lot more established NCAA collegiate sports than VUL.
A&T won't escape this morality truth either. This game will led to further embarrassment of A&T's athletics and a greater apathy from the casual fan to not even bother to attend a football game on A&T's campus. Secondly, I fear that in two years, A&T will be facing its own financial difficulties because bad decision making will continue to be the rule, steep into culture of Aggie athletics, as we are see now with bad decisions being executed.
