Seems akin to playing Edward Waters like NCCU did a few years back when Broadway was there. So we put 70 on the board, its a warmup game is that just like oleschool said. Its the back end of the schedule after Boone when it gets for real.

folks, its only a game. its not the end of the world. its only a game. please, don't anybody go out and commit suicide. its only a game... Don't understand your comment - I think everyone is on the same page saying how ridiculous this game is. To schedule a game for the sake of scheduling a game makes no sense. If Broadway and his staff cannot schedule a quality game for the 3rd, then ultimately the next best thing to do is be as prepared as possible for the next opponent....which would be Appalachian State. Broadway and his staff could make better use of that Saturday going to study App St as they play VA Tech in Blacksburg. I'm not upset at Hilton for not getting a game in. He didn't know St Paul was going to fold - neither did any of us. But at the end of the day, we didn't bring in Broadway for us to start off playing the season against the likes of either a St Paul, Johnson C Smith or Lynchburg. We're an FCS program and need to start behaving like one, from this point onwards. Fishing for an easy win has now placed us in a difficult position. If we cannot find a legit FCS or DII opponent for Labor Day weekend, let's chalk Labor Day weekend up, be as prepared as possible for App St, and move forward.....

It's a glorified scrimmage. The admission should be $15 for this game(if it happens) and $5 for kids.
They have to schedule SOMEBODY, so I cant be that mad. SOMEBODY is better than nobody going into App the next week. Before saying we shouldn't play at all just think about what type of opponent St Paul would have been. About the same.

Their schedule: 8/27 Guilford College (Scrimmage) 9/3 North Carolina A&T(being finalized) Away 9/10 Edward Waters College Away 9/17 Louisburg College Home 9/23 Longwood College Away** 9/24 North Carolina Tech Home 10/1 Coppin State University Away ** 10/8 West Virginia Tech HOMECOMING 10/15 Wesley College Home 10/21 Fork Union Academy Away 10/29 Lincoln University
looks like they are starting off like Campbell did with football. Academic aid only scholarships. Should be interesting.
On a side note, when did Coppin start football? ***(update) This year it seems, with aspirations of being full on Div1 in 2015.

If we cannot find a legit FCS or DII opponent for Labor Day weekend, let's chalk Labor Day weekend up, be as prepared as possible for App St, and move forward..... but superstar, its still only one game. its not gonna make or break our program to play it. so what's the harm? only a desire to play a more attractive opponent? to me, its no big deal. in a perfect world, i would have preferred a more familiar cupcake. but it really doesn't matter to me. just give me the "w", allow the team to basically break in a new regime and their system. no harm done at all. the "w" immediately removes any pressure to break an "ofa" losing streak. so i'm good! yeah, its an ugly opponent. but like i said before, bcu played edward waters on opening day last season and i don't hear anybody complaining about jenkins' first "w". it counted just like the rest of his wins. we'll play the game and move onto app state. the only way anybody will remember our game against vul is if the unthinkable happens and we lose the game. otherwise, life goes on...

At least their uniforms will be new and shiney, LOL. St Paul, Edward Waters, etc wouldn't have been any more challenging in my opinion. We would have just heard of them before. Attendance will still be about the same as well.
Lets just schedule this paid scrimmage and move on. Lesson learned for next year. Get WSSU, or at least someone stable to play. If it aint WSSU then go for a pay day with a BCS school or maybe even a Fayetteville State, St Aug, or Shaw. In that order.

According to the VUL website ( applyvul.com/athletics ), we are in the process of having the contract finalized.

People are having a tough time because A&T will be charging for a scrimmage game against a bonafide club team. VUL, a poor black church supported college, have prep schools on their football schedule. Their basketball team plays in a church league. Come on, now.
Once, A&T hang 60 or 70 points on VUL, this will open the door for App State to hang 70 pts on A&T in the next week and Coach Jerry Moore will not even feel bad about it.
A&T is playing a dang gone poor black Baptist club football team. Come on now. Enjoy the Game Zone.
A&T could have scheduled UNCG club team but maybe there would have been a chance of A&T losing the game.

I can give a pass for this year but certainly not going forward. I've criticized Eaves big time for scheduling these type of games and I will do the same with Broadway if he continues to schedule this level of non conference competition. There is very little good that can come from this.
Lol, I didn't even know Coppin had a club team until I saw VUL's schedule.

to me, i completely understand why we've scheduled a game like this. if i were broadway, i would've done the exact same thing given the full schedule we have. an opening day win means a lot to our program, whereas an opening day loss "could have been" (not would have been) disastrous.
with an opening day "w", the guys can pretty much play pressure free football for the rest of the season. plus, it gives us a much needed "tuneup" before playing app state. though i'm not enthusiastic about the opponent, i'm still gonna attend the game. i wanna see how kindle looks after sitting out an entire year and i especially wanna see pizzo's new offense. and if frederick is in uniform, that's worth the price of my ticket alone.
so i 'm happy we have an opening day cupcake and i look forward to the rest of our schedule. but i certainly hope this is a one time thing. if we go this soft in 2012, then i'd have a problem with that...
