ole school---as for "crying out" on the message board you have done it. YOU are not as unique as you may think you are!!!!! What the REAL point is that people talk a lot but don't pursue a correct avenue to make change. Of course, I know that WSSU is impossible at this point......I said,''we SHOULD have found a way to schedule WSSU", not we should have now. Maybe you need to accept the fact that people can and will voice their opinions REGARDLESS of what you say or think, get use to it. As far as me, I say what I think on here AND to ADMINISTRATION. If more people went straight to the decision-makers, MAYBE things can get better.

you're not the only one who keeps calling for a wssu labor day game, so if you read carefully you'd see that i referred to "folks" and "ya'll", not specifically aggie2ru. so stop being so sensitive. besides, if you knew wssu was already booked, why keep hammering the impossible notion to play them on labor day? move on, dude.
secondly, i don't give a rats azz what you post on this message board, period, point blank, end of story. so please don't flatter yourself. yeah, you're right, you say what you think on here and to the administration (you say). and you've also been calling for the firing of coach eaves for years now. so how's that going? any luck with that? last i checked, he's still our coach. man, you sure do have the administration's ear...

I repeat again as I have to administration we need to schedule WSSU in football. Hopefully, we will pick up on it next year instead of being in the position we are in now...........................ole school---u are right about me seeking the immediate dismissal of Jerry "Mr..500 in MEAC" Eaves and just because I voice my opinion to administration I am realistic enough to know I am just one man. ole school---are you happy with the men's basketball program?? Some people are use to mediocrity are you? .......At any rate, hopefully, we can start doing some good things after years and years of horrible decisions. Some people were surprised to see us ranked at the bottom of the MEAC. Why? Raymond Charles if he were still living could see that!!!

This is a coaching no-brainer. By playing a weak opponent to open with us this particular year is the smartest move Broadway to assess the new personnel and where our problem areas are, his staff, his offense and defensive schemes and getting his new incoming players (yes, I said new players and don't be emailing me every five minutes about names)
JC Smith is a perfect testing and teaching ground situation for Coach Broadway and Smith band will probably get us near 17-18,000 fans out to see Broadway's debut, a new staff, a new press box and stadium redo and JCSU's band. WSSU may replace them one day but Smith is willing come here every year now for a average payout of let's say 25-30K and that's something the Rams won't or can't do at this point because of Hayes.
From a different perspective, there are a limited amount of good individual players like a couple of skill position guys at QB and WR and 2 or 3 above average D-linemen and 2or 3 O-linemen as well with some real size at St. Paul and although they are CIAA guys from a down program they can still have the talent to play and contribute immediately.
If they can qualify academically, we can grab them easily enough without a red shirt year withut spending a lot of time going all over the place for untested freshmen walk-ons this summer because St. Paul's program was voluntarily eliminated and the rule about sitting out to move up doesn't apply between D-1 and D-II in this case.

Yeah...I'm sure we got about 3 coaches up 85 N right about mile marker 24 (Exit for St. Paul's College).

I always respect your opinion A-1, but I have to disagree with the strategy. The shock difference from playing JC Smith in week 1(if its them) to playing App in game 2 is going to be extreme.
I'm taking a page from naborhoodsuperstar and pointing out he slacking we gave JC Smith under Fobbs. It did nothing for the program but end a streak. For me thats all this win would do. We went 1-9 last year, but this team could have been .500 pretty easily with better leadership.
Aggie fans wont be fooled by a Div2 win if we get blasted the next 4 weeks. We need to win a couple of those following games and we would have a better chance of doing it in my opinion playing a tougher week one opponent.
And let me end with, it has worked both ways. One way has never been discredited. Just depends on which technique you believe in more. The "tough love" or "easing into it". I'm all tough love.

but monster, i think ya'll are missing the point. the intention of playing a d2 team on opening day "is not" to fool anyone of anything. that's where i think you're missing the point. i listed about 10 different factors in the private forum explaining why it would be smart on broadway's part to schedule a perceived easy win on opening day. it has "nothing" to do with fooling anybody. but it has a lot to do with the morale of the team, eliminating any unnecessary "added pressure" to break a losing streak, and breaking in a brand new coaching staff. i'm sure broadway could care less what fans think about a&t playing a d2 team and i don't blame him. this ain't no ego contest. he's gonna do what's best for his team, not what fans prefer.
i mean, take a look at bcu's schedule from last year when jenkins in his first year took them to a near undefeated season. bcu opened their season against, not a d2 school, but worse, an naia school in edward waters (you can't find a weaker team than that!). then, the following week they played one of the weakest fcs teams in the country, savannah state. both of these were the only non-conference games bcu played last season, yet bcu beat everybody in the meac except famu.
i think some of ya'll are looking for style points or feel like a&t has to prove its toughness by playing stiffer competition. but it ain't about style points or ego. its about the development of the team, both "mental" and physical. if you overlook the "mental" aspect of the team, it would be a tremendous disservice to the team. morale means everything in football!
again, i think some of you are looking at this too much from a fan's perspective instead of looking at it from a coach's perspective who's job depends on winning. i think ya'll are looking at it more from an entertainment perspective instead of what's best for the team...

I agree. At least give Broadway a chance to see his team before he jumps in feet first with App. State. I agree beating up on JCSU want tell you how good a player is aginst top competition but it will tell Broadway who he needs on the field.
For example some guys are great practice players and you put them in a real game and nerves get the better of the player. I would rather have droped balls, problems with the snap against JCSU than APP. We can recover from any mistake we make with JCSU. A ton of unforced errors with APP - will get our paints beaten off and lower player moral

Again, let me copy and paste what I said, cause you(oleschool) always seem to cherry pick my words. "And let me end with, it has worked both ways. One way has never been discredited. Just depends on which technique you believe in more. The "tough love" or "easing into it". I'm all tough love."I'm not saying Broadway is wrong for playing a Div2 opponent. I just like the other route better. I think it pays off more in the long run. Play to your level of talent is what I've always believed in. I know plenty of coaches that think different, doesn't make them wrong cause its worked either way. If we were a Bowl based division then I would go Broadway's way, but since we are not and we play playoffs I would go the tough route. That seems to work better for the SOCON and other conferences come playoff time. I'll wait for the "we are not on SOCON level, we were 1-9 last year, so we shouldn't do what they do" comments If it were me and its not(Broadway has way more experience than I), I would be thinking MEAC record only. His job is secure enough(right now) where he can take a beatdown outside of conference just to get his boys more prepared for the MEAC. Thats where he will ultimately be judged. Especially his first 2 years. For a coach like Broadway, who is a proven winner it wont matter. He'll use the "cupcake" route for his way and if he played App in game one he would spin that into his way as well. i just dont like seeing Div2 opponents in Aggie Stadium unless its a rival. Especially Div2 opponents a lowly as JSCU and St Paul. Bring Catawba or Garner-Webb in if you dont give a damn about attendance. We should still beat them(hopefully), but at least we'll be tested.

I agree with Monster Man----I just don't like the B.S. route. It's not gonna prepare us for App St.-which consequently Wheels should not have scheduled while he was in power. At any rate I am hoping for the best. Administration is moving towards trying to make us "mo better" so, hopefully, we will be able to come to some kinda compromise with "Wild Bill" at WSSU and get them back in stride for 2012 and beyond.

We are saying that unless its a game like WSSU that will bring in money then you might as well play to the level of your competition. Dont get me wrong. I see the theory behind it. We were 1-9, lets build some confidence, etc, etc. Its a foe win and I think the players and fans will see right through it. Everyone will be waiting to see what we do with the next 4 games. Regardless of how week 1 turns out. I think this team has enough talent to go .500. Now a easy win over JSCU(if we play them) will definitely be one of the 5, so I guess 5-6 just sounds a lot better than 4-7 for the following years morale. Dress rehearsal.

We should still beat them(hopefully), but at least we'll be tested. again, you're missing my point. scheduling a d2 team on opening day "this season" is not a "philosophical" move as you allege. its a "circumstantial" move, not a "philosophical" move. in other words, it ain't about a "tough love" or "easing into it" technique. this is solely "circumstantial", period. let me explain what i mean by "circumstantial" just in case you don't understand. because of the "circumstances" we're currently under (new staff, 1-10 last season, 27 game losing streak, no official recruiting class signed, losing record 7 straight seasons, tremendous void in d-line, low morale, very tough schedule, etc.), i'd recommend playing a weak opponent on opening day this season. yet "philosophically", i agree with you. under normal circumstances, i would be against playing a weak opponent anywhere on our schedule. but our circumstances currently are not "normal". that's why i think you're missing my point. you "seem" to believe i'd want to play a weak opponent every year on opening day. but that's not the case at all. actually, i'd like to play nccu on labor day weekend every season because i think that date draws the largest crowds. but i'm just saying "this year" because of our circumstances, we should play a weak opponent on opening day. i even stated that long before broadway stepped in to request playing st. paul's. it didn't surprise me one bit that he wanted to play a weak opponent and its obvious he did it because of our current "circumstances", not because he's soft. if i'm not mistaken, grambling didn't play any d2 schools at all while he was coaching gsu. so "philosophically", its apparent to me that broadway also prefers tough competition. so let's not get it twisted. its not my philosophy to play weak opponents every year in football just to pad our record. i'm just saying we need to do it "this year". perhaps not next year if we have a decent season this year...
