I like the no huddle offense & the RB's
I don't the QB play from Lewis & Webb.....Lewis has happy feet in the pocket and will either throw on the run or take off. Also the o & d lines need more size....
The keyword of this program is........patience i suppose.

I too liked the no huddle offense. It appears we won't have to worry about the delay of game penalties like last year The QB play is still suspect but the RB's looked good especially #33. The OL did OK in my opinion but it was hard to judge the pass protection because the QB's didn't make good reads. The defense is small and fast so that means look out vs. a team with a running game. In short, I agree that the key word is patience. Don't expect a miracle this year.

I never seen so many passes hit the ground. I also liked the no huddle and the RB's.

We might be able to beat St. Paul this year. After that, all bets are off.
Team has very little size and depth right now. D-line might be the worst in 1-AA football.

Yep our DL is light in the azz and can't hold stop the run so we are in trouble. With only 54 guys in the spring game there is no depth. QB play is still suspect if Kindle is not healthy and the real deal. I see 2-3 wins this year.

I was on NCCU's campus for a conference today so I stopped by to checkout their spring game. I was surprised to see they only had 62 players on the field.

I had a friend to relay info that we should not expect a whole lot from what he saw at spring game. Instructional methods are better than last year but he said he didn't see any playmakers. Hopefully, we can grind out a few more wins this year and Broadway keeps the fire burning!!! Oh yeah, my friend is not COMPLETELY bias (Morgan St. grad) but he keeps reminding me that Morgan has sent over 70 players to the NFL. They were a powerhouse in the '60's & 70's.

I did not and do not expect to see miracles until the scholarship problem is resolved but I did see some young guys from last year's class who were moved from where they played last year especially in the secondary and at LB who have seemingly stepped up into their new roles.
Travis Crosby, Ben Binder, Don Mattocks, Brandon Hoover and Devonte Ingram looked good as a starting unit in the secondary.
LBs Tyree Hearns, Dareon Mays, Devin Ray, Kenny Powell, Tevin Williams, and Bryson McCall showed well.
I like the fact that OL line coach Mike Wagner moved Alex Harper and Joey Sunkins to guard spots and put Nathan Isles and Armon White at tackle. It's a tall, fast, and big offensive line whose run and pass blocking technique is much better than this time a year ago.
We absolutely must have some bigger bodies at defensive tackle and a consistent #2 quarterback behind Kindle. Right now I would say Lewis is clearly ahead of Webb coming out of yesterday as far as understanding the offense but was up and down with a lot of backup walk-on recievers dropping a lot of easy passes.
Walk-on DT Dayne Gorrell has improved a lot and his stamina is 100 percent better. He has some decent hieght and pursues well. Darius Hamlet, who we'll have to depend upon heavily this fall to stay healthy for his size and meaness, was out with mild shoulder injury.
Chris Neal was really solid at end as usual and Brandon Young is getting his timing back but had some nice plays on the weak side end. We did a lot of stunting to offset our lack of interior line size but we won't be able to do that for too long against good run oriented teams with experienced lines. What I didn't see was a bunch arm tackling and that in itself was vast improvement fundamentally.
The running backs were better than I expected. I was very impressed with the Chauncey Burgess and Tony Coles at tailback and Devin Moore at fullback. They ran hard and kept their feet moving to pick up a lot of extra yardage in the pile and kept their balance.
Raper looked much more comfortable in this offense at tailback in the I-formation than he ever did last year in that one back set. OC Mike Pizzo used Lewis and Raper in different spots in the spread as receivers when we didn't line up in the Pro-I with the no huddle strategy and that showed some real promise.
The biggest thing I came away from the scrimmage was that the guys out there now who are all real competitors and they are playing at a much faster pace. The foundation is there and we'll play hard this fall and won't be imtimidated.
We must find us some big bodies up front on defense between now and August. We're definitely better coached. Other than that I think we'll be okay.

If I recall correctly Raper caught a TD pass from Lewis. It seems the OC is going to be more creative with the weapons that he has and will be going at a fast no-huddle pace. I like Binder at safety too.

Maybe the Gods heard me last year at the NCCU game when I saw with my own two eyes, Binder run down a db from Central and the db had a good ten yards on him. I then said he should be a safety instead of linebacker. But now that he's played linebacker and has moved to safety that helps the run defense in and of itself. But we still need some bigger bodies on the defensive line....no doubt.
