With heavy construction equipment being off loaded at the stadium, means that what many of you have been waiting for is about to start.

Don't get me wrong---I repeat DON'T get me wrong. I am 100% behind progress but could the money that it cost to build a new press box been used to spend on athletic programs? ? What I am getting at it is a great cosmetic change and upgrade compared to what we have now. However, the big boys will be able to benefit, not 99% of the fans. 99% of us will never see the inside during game day. Has ANYONE ever thought of that? ? Be straight up and realistic!!!!! Could this sacred, rare money that I hear everyone talking been spent on upgrading our sports programs more directly that would benefit our student athletes? I know we like shiny new things because that is what we do but I see so many sports teams that could use the money at A&T instead the "VIP LOUNGE"

It wasn't just money that could be put towards something else. I see your point, but our press box was waaaay overdue for a facelift. Hopefully they can get some more donors that want to feel like big wigs in the press box. I know my broke a$$ will never see the inside of it, lol.

You have to think of the fact that this is a capital expenditure. Not an expense item. That gives you the financial leverage to get the cash/bond in the first place. When smartly planning these things, you can enclose some expense items within a big capital project. The press box also has revenue generating facilities built in. All of that makes it attractive. From corporate sponsorships, to alumni giving. Good investment in my view.

Just wanted some clarity on it----If we use it right for the reasons mentioned it can be a major plus---not just a "VIP LOUNGE" as a show piece for a select few.

No need to worry. Not enough black folk at A&T with T. Boone Pickens style cash to be even be remotely called called elitist or select. Those boxes will be used by primarily 95 percent of the time by corporate investors and sponsors or celeberties -- the real check writers.

I understand where aggie2ru is coming from but we do need an updated pressbox regardless. A new pressbox does not equal wins on the field but it may help with recruiting. Hampton has one of the worst pressbox in the MEAC but yet they continue to win and recruit good players, go figure!!

It may not equal wins but it will most likely equal more NCAA T&F Regionals and other events that the City of Greensboro desperately would like. That means more money for A&T Athletics.

Ref: intranet.ncat.edu/bot/Shared%20Documents/BOT%20February%202011%20Meeting_Committee%20and%20Full%20Board%20Meeting%20Materials/11%20-%20RESOLUTIONS/01%20BOT%20February%202011%20Meeting_Business%20Affairs_Resolution.pdf www.ncleg.net/Sessions/2009/Bills/Senate/PDF/S1154v3.pdfI think the revenue stream from this capital improvement will be minimal and we will need external sources to service the debt. I don’t know the terms of the financing, but I do know the debt is $3,200,000 + 5%, the financing will be funded through the issue of special obligation bonds, A&T will borrow funds to finance the costs of a portion of project, and that no state funds can be used to service the debt. The architecture plan has four leased suites. The interest on this debt is probably greater than the market value of the potential lease income, even at 100% capacity. Then there’s some operating and maintenance expense associated with structure. If the plan was to maximize suite revenue, they would have gone with a different configuration. In my mind, this is purely a much needed investment in the aesthetics of Aggie Stadium, coupled with a major opportunity for the Chancellor and the development team to press the fresh of current and potential donors in a comfortable, casual, entertainment environment as the they stress A&T’s needs and plans for the future.

i agree that a new pressbox is "sorely" needed. our current pressbox (if ya wanna call it that) is a straight up joke. almost brings down the rest of the stadium. a lot of us complain about the lack of media aggie athletics gets. well, our present pressbox does nothing to encourage the media to attend our outdoor sporting events...
