To read this is amazing about Q. Long. The average Joe would think by reading this, is we have a winning program and the players are gonna initiate the coach on some level. But to know that we are NOT a winning program and are the exact opposite of that makes me wonder, what makes this kid think he is bigger than the program, coach and team??? The ole attitude as they need me, I don't need them. Hell, if those guys were that good, we wouldn't be discussing a new coach. Truly amazing!!! I'm just in awe...there's no word to describe my feeling on this issue. I'm sure this behavior has gone on for years... I've said it before. No one on a 1-10 team can tell me @#@%. You were 1-10!

today Q Long watched football practice from behind the goal post. He was there when I arrived and was still there when I left about an hour later. However, during this time frame he walked over to where a group of us were watching the practice because I believed he recognized the father of one of the players who was standing next to me. I don't intend to post the name of the father but I over heard him tell this individual that one of the coaches disrespected him. Therefore, he had no respect for the coach and he was not returning to the team. Another person got involved in the discussion and they explained to Q Long all the reasons why he should reconsider returning to the team but I never heard nim say he would. The only question I have is why would he spend over an hour watching a the team practice if he has no interest in playing with them?

Excellent question, Aggiedog, I agree. It sounds like he'd like to play but doesn't know how to go about re-establishing a respectful relationship with that coach whoever it is. He's not the first to believe someone disrespected him and won't be the last. He just needs to be taught how to recover from those types of situations and move on to greater successes.

He better hurry up and suck it up because someone is always ready to take your spot. Hope he realizes that only HE has something to lose by sitting out. There is no pressure on this staff to beg ANYONE back on the team that went 1-10 the previous year.

He has to learn that quitting isn't the answer.

Has it occurred to Long, as well as others, to get respect you have to give respect. Hasn't he had issues before? I suspect that the onus for his situation lies with him. No disrespect intended. Maturation my boy, maturation.

Why is he at practice? Is he hoping that the coaches will approach him and establish a new relationship? Hopefully, his presence is not to poison the attitudes of the other players.

He'll be back - If he's any type of competitior. Learn to be a man and suck it up. When you're wrong your're wrong.
In the real world no one gives a damn about your ego and your notion of "disrespect." If you are expected to do a job you do it.
A word of advice Quay - GET YOUR S**T TOGETHER AND GROW UP! No one owes you anything in this world. You earn it by proving yourself.

This world is full of promising athletes that didnt amount to issh because of some BS (whether its alcohol, drugs, legal matters, etc) or in this case some BS about a coach not respecting him.
He needs to decide if he wants to join that loooong list of failed athletes, or look at the big picture and make the most out of this opportunity to play D-1 college football and possibly at the next level. And that opportunity is quickly slipping away because your competition is working hard while he is on the sidelines.
If he rejoins the team, nobody will remember this. If he stays off the team and transfers, this incident will follow him wherever he goes and NFL scouts will wonder about his attitude and dedication to his team. Fair or not, that's the way it will be.
So what if somebody disrespects him? Respect is earned, not ordained. Earn that ishh on the practice field, in the locker room, and on game day.

This is not Quay Long's first rodeo. Last year he got in a beef w/the coaching staff during the season and they put him off the team. He came back to the team after it got worked out. I say he has talent, certainly not NFL talent, but NO ONE is better than the team as a whole. If I'm Broadway I have to let him walk. You have to send a message that players that exhibit selfishness and big egos will not be tolerated. In fact, I would bar him from future practices if he does not meet the minimum of AGGIE standards for 2011-2012. It's a brand new day!!!! Why not expect the BEST??? We have some work to do and it is time for everyone to get w/the program!!!!

That would be my concern. I don't know this kid at all, but the staff might be better off by letting him stay on the outside...especially if he had run-ins with the previous staff.
