When you have players like Japan (allegedly) who try to defame members of their own coaching staff on the Internet, I can understand why Fobbs wants to bring in as many new guys as he can.

Alexanders Dad...When you have a William Johnson, 5th yr senior who gets suspended two games of his career (senior day and game in his hometown) for one argument about class with an assistant, how can you justify bringing in someone with a history of problems if youre adament about running a tight program and only having "character guys" around. Geez, Johnson was a captain the whole season and represented us at kickoff. Everything thing that I heard prior to this incident was that he was the model teammate and leader and unselfishly helped the younger guys. I know that everyone deserves a second chance, but you cant be hypocritical with how you do things. Current and future players see this things, and you can knock people like the current players who bring the dirt and sheistiness to the light. Its the players who really know what goes on behind the scenes and not us old men who sit on the internet all day. Im sure these are the same things that they all of the incoming recruits and recruits that come in on visits. With my experience with being recruited, if the players dont like or respect a staff, they definitley let you know. Im sure that all of the frosh and sophmores that were on this current team this year, saw how the more talented seniors and 5th yr guys were treated and im sure that will stay in the back of their minds as they progress as aggie athletes. When coach Small was here, he seemed to bring in a couple of guys from the Fayetville/Raeford area every because thats where he's from, and has his base. Now that Fobbs is here, he seems to be bringing in those Gulf, Mississippi, and LA guys, and taking care of his own down there. I recently talked to a kid who's being recruited pretty heavily out of High Point and asked him if he had given A&T any thought, and he replied that "why would he attend A&T, when Winston, Central, App State, and Coastal Carolina are basically right here in his backyard if he doesnt get the major offer that he wants". We dont even have the experienced coaches that offer a proven track that they can turn it around. ITs one thing to tell booster and alumni associations when youre trying squeeze money out of them that... "we're gonna and its gonna better, we're gonna do things right", but you really dont have a leg to stand on and high school recruits and current players are alot smarter than we give them credit for. Alexanders Dad, dont descredit someone for trying to give you an honest, inside look behind the scenes, when the closest you get to the guys is showing up after work and watching practice(i thought practices were closed under Fobbs rules anyways). Im not saying Big Rob doesnt deserve a second chance, for we do not know what he was accused of. With my experience with disciplinary actions, with fights, drugs, curfew violations etc....it usually only results in a suspension or something of that manner, unless its a repeat pattern of behavior. I just dont think that the staff can undermine their current rules and stipulations for players currently in the program, and then open your arms to those acting adversely in other situations and then reward them by placing them number on the depth chart from day one...

After writing all that, do you still think its cool for college football players to bad mouth their own coaching staff on a message board? Do you think that will help us end our losing streak next year?
Hell, when the going gets tough ... our guys start mud slinging.

For all of the BS and excuses that our seniors had to go through the last 1 1/2 yrs..i cant say what is and isnt justifiable.....Coaches suspending a 5th yr player with 2 games left...thats mud slinging at its best..Would you want your son to choose a school or play for a guy like that? To put in years of hardwork and for it to end like that? Alexanders Dad, how was it playing under Hayes?

On the flip side, shouldn't a 5th yr player be setting a postive example for his younger teammates and not doing anything to get himself suspended. That was our biggest problem over the last couple of years: a lack of leadership.
Maybe our coaches were trying to send a message that everyone will be held accountable for their actions.
BTW: If you take the word of a 18-22 year old just on face value, you are sillier than you seem. I'm sure Will Bill was not totally innocent in this situation.

He meant to say Wilbert Johnson and from What I heard Wilbert even said that he was wrong for cursing out the coaching staff in practice. I would have suspended his butt too.

You lead by example....From what everyone says, Will was provoked, coach repeatedly pressed the class situation and cursing. Will showed restraint, walked away, then just snapped. A.D., you probably dont realize that Will played on the field and won a 2003 championship against the very coach cussing him out and trying to demean him. The coach came in as a grad assistant under Small and didnt EARN the coaches respect. Everyone is grown out there and can only take so much. Theres a difference between getting in a kids jock, and degrading them as a human being. A man can only take so much, especially when he knows he is playing under someone incompetent, and after 10 straight losses. Im sure none of the under classman can say anything bad about the senior class given the situation that they found themselves in. Alexanders Dad, how was it playing under Hayes?

Will didnt apologize for the situation, nor did he say he was wrong...As any player on the team fcould tell you. The only thing thta I heard was that he said that he wished that it didnt happen because all of his family was coming in town for those last two games. Guys flunk drug test and dont even get suspended around here...How do you make an example out of someone and cuss a guy out when you know his schedule for 3 months prior to the incident..It's not like he went out and picked up a class with 3 wks left in the semester..Only weak coaches use other players to build credibility within their team. Basically youre saying that if the players arent gonna respect you, thn you will do something dumb as hell to scare them up, even if it means cutting short someones season, career at that matter.

So you are telling me if you are a coach and a player disrespects you that you are not going to take any disciplinary action with the player.

As one of the few returning seniors and a leader on the team did Wilbert have any say into which coaches were hired and which coaches remained after Small was unceremoniously dumped?
On a side note, one thing I've noticed is that most solid staffs have somebody that can step in and be an effective head coach if the head coach is unavailable (or dumped). As bad as we were those last two years under Small, I'd say we had two or three guys that could've stepped up. I don't see that on this staff. It appears that two of the guys we kept were two of the most inexperienced staff members and the third was four-fifths into retirement. Not genius decision-making.
In any event I don't know what the boy said or what was said to the boy. The ultimate decision-maker on what's to be done in these situations is Lee Fobbs. I'm of the opinion we have to trust his judgment for better or worse. While I don't think I would've done the same thing I don't expect Fobbs to stand behind me with his hand on my a$$ when I go into court. So I'll keep my hand off his.
Fobbs, for his lack of experience, did inherit a squad of underacheiving players. He clearly ain't got the time to work with each and every one of them individually to get the best out of them and he ain't got the time to teach his inexperienced staff how to do it. Therefore he might have to cut some guys that don't perform and replace them with kids from southern jucos and I-A benchriders. Do I agree with that recruiting philosophy? Not at all. Am I the coach? Not at all. Fobbs is the one that's gonna make it happen his way. If he gets rid of all the malcontents and gets "his" players in we theoretically should improve. If we don't improve he will be gone.

I hate to say it Jaff but you're making a lot of excuses to justify what the kid did. He should have kept his cool and walked away. It seems as though he responded in a manner that cost him. He should have thought about the consiquences before lashing out. I'm sure a lot of us on this board wish we could take back things we've done.
A coach has to set the example, you don't curse out my coaches. If the coach would have let Johnson get away with that then respect would have been lost all together.

If Im calling you a punk A*s B(*ch...repeatedly and you snap on me....As a coach, im going to stand up as a responsible, mature, adult, step back, assess the situation, and go from there. Everyone knows that the 2 game suspension was too severe and used a method to make point. And i dont think that you make a point by suspending someone who has given so much time and effort to your program for his senior day (which he was on the cover of the media guide and a feature story) and playing his last game ever in his home city. Especially when it was coaches who provoked the situation. Again, the other players and parents hear, see, and understand everyhting that goes behind the scenes.

Actually there was...and remember my post from a while back, when I saw another altercation involving a parent and coach after the SC State game.. It seems like these coaches are hotheads. No matter what the situation, no coach should ever ever ever..get into a public argument with a parents player that almost escalates into a physical situation..And this was an open, in the public disturbance...Imagine if it was a behind the scenes, closed door argument at practice how bad things could get.....The coach actually took off his shirt and said "bring your a$$ on"in a stadium full of aggie supporters, alumni and prospects...Go back in the threads and pull up this post. Alexanders Dad, how was it playing under Hayes?
