www.news-record.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=200770613020Article published Jun 13, 2007 A&T football signs four more BY ROB DANIELS Staff Writer ADVERTISEMENT In case you didn't really think football recruiting was a year-round sport, ponder this one: N.C. A&T is still signing players for the 2007 season. As much as the Aggies want to build something for the future, they know that nothing compels action quite like a winless season. Coach Lee Fobbs announced Wednesday that the program will bring in four transfers from other institutions -- two from junior colleges and one from the SEC. ** Defensive lineman Robert Russell played in nine games in two seasons at Mississippi, making 13 tackles and recovering a fumble as a freshman. ** Jason Broadnax, a Floridian who ventured to the frozen north of Hibbing, Minn., to play JC ball, is a defensive end who recorded 14 sacks and two interceptions in two seasons at Hibbing Community College. ** Philip Sumlin of Los Angeles, another end, played two years at Pasadena City College and registered nine sacks in that time. ** Kicker Kirk Cabana of West Covina, Calif., hit 15-of-18 field goals all but one of his 36 extra points at Citrus JC in Florida in 2006. Getting a credible kicker at this stage of the recruiting game sounds like a coup. "I'm pleased with what we've done this recruiting season," coach Lee Fobbs said. "We addressed some needs and we brought in some guys on the defensive side who can help us right away. Signing a kicker really addressed an immediate need we had."

It's excellent that the staff is still working on bringing kids in. The pieces of the puzzle are slowly but surely starting to come together. If he could just get a few o-linemen and a little more beef on the d-line I'd go from picking us to win zero to picking us to win six barring injury. On paper the skill positions are in pretty capable hands. All that's missing is the meat.

Hello Board.. Robert is a linebacker. He is my nephew. he is a hell of a player and ready to make it happen for A&T. He is 6-0 235 lbs. He runs a 4.48 forty. He got 3 starts as a true freshman at Ole Miss. Was named defensive freshman of the week for game against Vandy. In fact he was a 17 yr. old playing with a heavy heart, wondering where his family was after Hurricane Katrina. But was still able to have 10 tackles, 1 fumble rec. and 1 pass def. Get ready.. "BIG ROB" is ready to ball!!!

Hot damn. This info should be posted on the "10 reasons to get excited..." thread.
Coachmike42, welcome to the board. Don't be afraid to send Fobbs your resume. He probably could use you ASAP.

I think this is the same kid that was mentioned in another post and the uncle chimed in then as well? All 4 are more than welcome to Aggieland.
I'm giving all the credit to A's Daddy's "recruting video" of the dawg pound. Let's get some crunk video on U-tube of "the maniacs" at the football game and kids will flock to Aggie Stadium to play. If you cant convince them to come the old fashion way just offer some good partying. Kids these days love to be apart of something "crunk". The other stuff dont matter to them. Sad, but true. LOL

We have a couple more coming from Durham if my source is correct and he seemed pretty sure since he knows both families…..a lb/db out of Riverside high and a db from Northern Durham high.
The kid from Riverside is supposedly pretty good having led the team in tackles (104) last year.
Also, according to the Sunday Raleigh paper, a kid by the name of Travis Jones out of Wake Forest – Rolesville high has signed with A&T.

If we could bring in one more JUCO offensive lineman and a real QB coach I would grade this class an A .

four o-linemen, three d-linemen and the class is an A to me. The qb coach ain't got nothing to do with the class.
I really can't think of one good lineman I saw last year. That's where all our problems were. Everything broke down from there.

If we could bring in one more JUCO offensive lineman and a real QB coach I would grade this class an A . Really, what are you drinking from that half full glass. That must be based on the previous annouced members of this class including Big Rob. With these recent additions I may have deduct points. 98 Jason Broadnax DL/LB 6’1 245 Delray Beach, FL Spanish River 2 This dude was listed as a Soph on the Hibbing 2005 Roster. Has there ever been a worst team photo? Are all these dudes in the witness protection progam. Philip SumlinThree Lancer linebackers are headed to Fayetteville State (North Carolina) in Fred McNeill II (37 tackles, two sacks, two pass knockdowns, two forced fumbles), Jonathan Picos (38 tackles, one sack, one knockdown), and Philip Sumlin (8 tackles, 1 sack). This was reported in June 2006. Tell me this dude had more than eight tackles as a LB for an entire season. www.pasadena.edu/athletics/news/newsitem.cfm?ID=1403Am I missing his name on the 2006 Pasadena City College 2006 Football Roster, updated Nov. 3 www.pasadena.edu/athletics/football/players.cfmAre they LBs or DLs. Neither of these programs won more than 3 games the last three years. Kirk Cabana 5-foot-9 Wt: 140 lbs Kirk is a very solid JC kicker. He is strong mechanically and deadly accurate. He can step in and play. www.chrissailerkicking.com/index.php?act=GetContent&cid=43&disType=PlayerProfile&playerID=406 This dude may be the solution to a huge problem. Of course, this is based on my fifteen minutes Internet research.

Sharpless, Riverside? Who you talking about? I followed Riverside quite closely this past season. I dont remember a LB/DB that impressed me. Ike Simms and Brandon Nelson were the corners, so it had to be the strong safety. The free safety better NOT be coming to A&T. There is one guy I am thiinking about and if its him he wont be a factor until his junior or senior year at A&T.

Dooms, I almost agree with you but I think Chad Wiley did work on the offensive line and in the classroom bruh, he does exactly what he's told and works hard outside of practice and games man

I'd say Chad was adequate. It might be a result of having to work with below-adequate guys but I don't think he'd start for most of the better teams in I-AA. I think he'll definitely improve.
I think Bess would've been better suited for the d-line.
