Will Valmont be penciled in as a starter from day one?

That's pretty much the way I had it working out in my recruiting column back in March that Cohen and Valmont were ahead of schedule as high school recruits and were physically ready for college ball.
Sagote was effective as the strong side guard in the spring game. Wiley may not be the strongest tackle and certainly not the biggest in the world but he does what is he supposed to do and is where he is supposed to be on every play and he can run.
Cohesiveness is what the O-line will need because they will be the difference in whether we have another long season or break through as a surprise.
Defensively, we'll be much improved. I think we have the physical presence in place with this new 3-5 alignment now with Russell, Thornton, Hemphill, Hedgepeth and Witherspoon (sat out last season) at linebacker along with a very quick, experienced and physically imposing secondary.
If Cabana is as accurate with his kicking as his stats suggest, we should be in every game.

Don't look now but A&T might have the best kicking game in the MEAC.
Woodson is hands down the top returning punter in the conference and this Kurt Cobain sounds like he at least can nail down all the gimmies.

Aggie One:
You've refered to Tim Witherspoon several times in your posts/articles but I believe the player you are talking about is actually Timothy Shropshire. Another player that has not been mentioned with the linebackers is Brandon Long. He was very physical during the spring and should be very active in Coach Adams new blitzing scheme.

You're right holdum, my mistake on Tim's last name. I had forgot about Long. I was glad to see him put on some weight and gain some size in the offseason. Fobbs is overly deep in linebackers going into this season that a 3-4 or 3-5 is going to have be his natural defense.

So I assume Thornthon and Hemphill will start at inside linebacker, and Big Rob and Stropshire will man the outside?

I would expect Russell and Shropshire inside and Thornton and Hedgepeth on the outside with Hemphill or Long spying on the quarterback in a 3-5 set.
On that kid from Wake Forest-Roseville that signed last week, he's a DE (6-3,230).

Does Thornton have the speed to play outside?

From what I've see on the Net, the knock on Russell is that he is not great against the run.

Does Thornton have the speed to play outside? He is probably faster than Shrop and Russell.

Hello Board!!! I must say.. If you are going to talk about Big Rob.. let's get is correct.
Daddyaleaxnder.. From what I've see on the Net, the knock on Russell is that he is not great against the run.
Rob is a rock against the run.. Check his creditials and then get back to me. He had over 250 tackles in 2 yrs in high school.. but also pushed for playing time at Ole Miss.. So when you are good enough to push for playing time behind the #1 linebacker chosen in the draft. You must be good.. No B.S here... He will make you a believer... he is probably the fastest linebacker on the team. at 240 only P. Willis was faster than him at Ole Miss.

Anybody know why Robert Russell got susended indefinantly for the Miss. football team?? I found violation of team rules but what was it?? Just wondering. I don't think we need anymore kids that show greatness (well at least potential) one season and then f up in the off season.
