For the life of me, I just don't understand why you would risk upsetting people who have been giving you money. Especially in this current climate of economic uncertainty.
That just ain't good business.

IF WE WERE WINNING CHAMPIONSHIPS in football & Men's Basketball, AND OUR ADMINISTRATION SEEMED LIKE THEY KNEW WHAT THEY WERE DOING IN ATHLETICS AND ITS FINANCES, this new Booster Organization wouldn't be much of an issue.

Do we give to the organization or do we give to the school? What difference does it make that the name has change. Martin is no dummy, I am sure he had what he felt was a good reason to make the change. If you are currently giving will you stop giving because of the name change?

i don't think its the name change that bothers folk. i just think the timing is extremely bad. look at our two "premier" programs. we're in the midst of a winless football season (again), our men's basketball team finished near the bottom of the meac last year and are projected to do the same this year. i don't know about anybody else, but i'm in no mood to contemplate how to raise more funds for our inept athletic department. i already feel like i wasted a ton of money on the football program this year only to get a winless season in return. how 'bout straightening out the folk who oversee the athletic department before we discuss raising more funds? what nerve does our admins have to discuss how to raise additional funds when they don't effectively use what they already have? that's my problem with this whole ordeal. very poor timing. now had they done this just after the lady aggies' basketball team finished a historic season last year as the football team was on the upswing, maybe my mood would be different. but when your admins are doing a horrible job managing our athletic department like they are now, don't come asking for more money to do the same. fix the inept management of our athletic department, then we can talk about raising additional funds. i mean, where's the announcement from martin that he's gonna revamp his administration to improve their performance regarding the management of a&t athletics? that's the announcement i want to hear...

Give or don't give. This change is just one more excuse for people not to give.

Maybe I'm missing the point but what jumped out to me in his letter was that he named Connel Maynor?

I don't have a problem with it. It needed to be done and he's doing it. If he waited around for good news it would probably never be done.

i don't see where there's a sense of urgency to introduce a new booster club in the first place. much less at a time when our morale is almost at an all time low. at least let some of this negativity blow over before talking about how to increase donations. that's like a kid who just brought home a report card loaded with d's and f's, asking his parents for an increase in his allowance...

that's just dumb marketing in my opinion. common sense says you ask for donation increases when the atmosphere is conducive to it. right now, the atmosphere is not conducive to giving more. if anything, the atmosphere is conducive to not giving anything at all, much less giving more.
until our admins get their act together, i'm more inclined to donate to specific programs like women's basketball than give it to folk who don't know what the hail they're doing. tired of wasting my money. if i'm gonna waste it, i'll waste it on myself...
