Not being in great shape plus the face-paced tempo of the LLU game probably was a major factor in the LSU loss. when you rest up for 10 days, you lose a lot of your conditioning but you store up some energy that will give you an initial burst when you first play again. i suspect that's what happened against llu. but that initial burst is just temporary, you've loss the "stamina" (from not maintaining your conditioning) that allows you to go hard several days in a row without missing a beat. once you use up that initial burst, you have nothing left and that's what you saw against lsu. had they stayed in shape over those 10 days, they would have been able to bounce back with fresh legs against lsu. man, this disturbs me quite a bit! now i know why some folks aren't performing up to par. our physique compared to lsu's was like night and day! lsu was cut! we could have easily trimmed 20 to 30 points off of that loss had we been in shape. but i think coach bibbs picked up on it based on her comments after the game. thrilla had it in bold print, but you have to read between the lines to understand that coach bibbs "gets it". i respect her for not calling her team out, but just read between the lines. i sense that by the time we play our next game on the 29th (about 10 days from now), our ladies will be much better fit. here's coach bibbs' comments; "We know what we have to do, but this wasn’t our team tonight. We’re not going to forget this game, but we’re going to work on it and learn from it.”now, let's read between the lines; We know what we have to doyep! get our azzes in shape! this wasn’t our team tonightyep! 'cause our azzes ain't normally out of shape! We’re not going to forget this gameyep! 'cause we embarrassed ourselves when we didn't have to! but we’re going to work on ityep! you better believe i'm gonna run their azzes into shape all next week! and learn from ityep! we learned that we can't compete when we're outta shape and we will never ever let that happen again! let's go ladies! we can do this! we've still got enough time to whip ourselves into shape before the conference schedule begins! there's some folks down in tally already claiming they're gonna win the meac! let's bring them down off of that high horse! let's get that beatdowns unlimited mentality back...

So...does anybody know Smalley's status? That injury she sustained against LSU sounded like it was pretty serious.

seeing how unfit our ladies were made me wonder if we even have a "structured" strength and conditioning program. now i'm curious. can anyone confirm or deny that we have such a program?
i know all the big schools and a lot of mid-majors have their kids in summer school following a structured strength and conditioning program that runs throughout the summer into the fall semester. then when official practices start, they put the kids through a "fitness test" and if any of them don't meet their personalized goals, they don't dress to play until they do. i could be wrong, but it doesn't appear that we have anything similar to that for our ladies.
i know it costs money, but even schools that can't afford to put all their kids in summer school give their kids a documented workout schedule that the kids are to follow over the summer. the assistant coaches keep in touch with all of them on a regular basis and the kids have to report back to the assistants the results of their workouts. when she was still in college, i've watched my daughter complete electronic workout sheets that she had to email to her assistant coach every week which showed her statistics in terms of time elapsed when running certain drills or on the track, repetitions of weight lifted, etc.
it just doesn't appear that our ladies go threw something like that. when you see how cut teams like lsu or pretty much any major d1 team is, you see the results of a structured strength and conditioning program...

Man I got hope that they have something.
My son is in 8th grade and he plays football & basketball. But all the one sport kids are in offseason conditioning when their sport is out of season. They run everyday and lift 2-3 days a week. actually some of the one sport kids get in better shape than the two sport kids; with all the additional weight lifting.
Even if there is no formal program any strength & cond coach can put together an individual schedule based on the athletes needs / profile
20 minutes tread mill level 7, 6 sets bench 100 pounds, etc.
how hard would it be to walk you but over to the new fitness center and follow the plan. It's a privildge to play athletics. I guess I just assumed personal responsibility would kick in.

I think we all are getting a bit too excited. All LSU did was point out the gaps and what it may take to get there. The biggest gap I saw was TALENT plain and simple. There was a conditioning gap but we're blowing it out of proportion. Funny how they weren't out of shape the night before. Remember, we were playing the #5 team in the country.

I disagee this has been on my mind since the first game I watched this year. I just did not raise the issue because it had not showed up in a big way.
It's hard to show case your talent when you are carrying around an extra 15 - 25 pounds. It just did not make a difference aginst lesser teams (like Lafeytte). I did not see the Auburn game. but if we want to to be a top mid-major this should not even be a discussion point.
Yea there is a talent gap but combined that with carrying around an additional 20 pounds you get a 40 point beat down.

So...does anybody know Smalley's status? That injury she sustained against LSU sounded like it was pretty serious. From watching the replay of the video, the commentators said Mona suffered an ankle injury. It just happened to be the same leg that she had the knee surgery. After they took her to the bench, they were working on her ankle, not her knee! I would much rather it be her ankle than the same knee she had surgery on!

There was a conditioning gap but we're blowing it out of proportion. Funny how they weren't out of shape the night before. Remember, we were playing the #5 team in the country. maxell, i really don't think the conditioning issue is being blown out of perspective. a lot of famu's success can be attributed to their ability to stay in front defensively when defending major d1 teams. they are not getting beat off the dribble and they are not getting beat in transition. yes, we can get away with poor conditioning when we play a weak team like llu and nsu. but it won't cut it when we play good teams and i don't mean just major d1's. our ladies will not be able to play to their maximum potential unless they are well conditioned. when you're carrying extra weight, you lose quickness, mobility, and stamina. all you have to do is look at the top teams, men or women, and you won't see a lot of excessive weight. yes, there was a gap in talent when we played lsu. but i've seen it a million times, when you're out of shape, you won't see the talent that you're capable of. there was a gap in talent but not nearly as wide as it looked. you would have seen an entirely different aggie team if they had been in good physical condition. i'm sure that's what coach bibbs meant when she stated that "this wasn't our team tonight". she could've only been referring to two possible things. either we didn't show up mentally or we didn't show up physically. and i don't think we performed poorly because we didn't show up mentally...

there was a gap in talent but not nearly as wide as it looked. LMAO. Dude...get real. Silly FANatics and the silly comments they make... LSU is one of the TOP programs in the country. They are ranked #5 in the country. If I am not mistaken, is this not the same LSU program that went to the FINAL FOUR FIVE TIMES IN A ROW in this past decade??? Look folks...there is nothing wrong with getting behind your alma mater and supporting your team passionately....but its comments like Oleschool's that border on the insane and would get you laughed off any sports talk show or forum where people are discussing sports. The Lady Aggies came, they competed, and we are damn proud of what they have accomplished under the leadership of Coach Bibbs during the past few years. But plain and simple, we got our azzes whipped by a top five program in the country that has been a top five program in this country for the last decade or so. Stop trying to make it something other than that....because when you do...you look foolish.
