SC STATE DROPS HOME-OPENER TO NORFOLK STATE 17-7ORANGEBURG, SC—The Bulldogs suffered another disappointing defeat with an, 17-7, heartbreaking loss to visiting Norfolk State Saturday (Sept. 22nd) at Oliver. C. Dawson Stadium/Willie Jeffries Field. "We struggled in the first-half, had only about 40-yards and 54 total offense. I don't think we quite mixed up it enough," said head coach Buddy Pough. "We came alive in the second-half, and got a big score but made some mistakes and turnovers that really hurt us down the stretch." News Article

Any special promotions or discounted tickets to try and get folks in the stadium. I remember the last Thursday ESPN game they sold like $5-10 tickets.

I always thought the winner of this game should receive a big trophy shaped like a bone.

S.C. STATE FOOTBALL: In prep for N.C. A&T, Pough sees his Bulldogs as 'a pretty resilient bunch' Perhaps less time to think about opening the season with three losses the better it will be for the South Carolina State football team. The Bulldogs, 0-3 after Saturday night's 17-7 home-opening loss to Norfolk State, have a quick turnaround this week. They play on Thursday night in Greensboro, N.C. against the North Carolina A&T Aggies, at 7:30 p.m. in front of a national television audience on ESPNU. "Thought we had a chance to win on Saturday, but we were driving the football and looking to tie it up, and then we fumble the ball inside the 5-yard line," S.C. State head football coach Buddy Pough said during his weekly press conference on Monday. "We had another opportunity before that, down in the red zone, where we threw a pick in the end zone. Digs, drags, and slants.....gotta learn how to exploit the middle of the field. Hope our qbs get more comfortable in attacking the underneath.

A&T coach will stick with slumping QB Lamar Raynard
By Jeff Mills jeff.mills@greensboro.com
GREENSBORO — The question would’ve been unthinkable a month ago. But there it was this afternoon at N.C. A&T’s weekly football news conference with head coach Sam Washington, a few days before the No. 12/13 Aggies (3-1) play South Carolina State (0-3) at BB&T Stadium. “Coach, will Lamar Raynard start at quarterback on Thursday?” Washington did not hesitate. “Yes,” he said. “Absolutely.” Then silence for a long, long moment. Raynard, the senior quarterback from High Point, was the MEAC’s player of the year last season when he led the Aggies to a 12-0 record and set single-season school records for passing yards (2,932), completions (209), touchdown passes (27) and total offense (3,117 yards). He had already set A&T’s single-season record with a 64.6 completion percentage as a sophomore, and he started this season with a career 60.5 rate. The Aggies were 29-0 in games Raynard started. Until Saturday, when winless Morgan State upset A&T 16-13 on a last-second field goal. Raynard was just 4-for-15 passing for 33 yards and two interceptions against the Bears, and he was replaced by backup Kylil Carter late in the third quarter. Through four games this season, Raynard is 41-for-94 passing (43.6 percent) with five touchdowns and four interceptions, averaging just 96.5 yards per game. All those numbers are down significantly from last season. He came out of the East Carolina game with an injured throwing hand, but that healed, Washington said. “He’s also dealt with kidney stones,” Washington said. “You can imagine how that feels.” But the coach said his star’s biggest struggles have been internal. Looks like coach wash is going with lamar this week. Giving the senior an opportunity to work through this slump. Yea you have to stick with what got you to this point besides it is not like carter came out and playes a A game as well. Although I he was able to move the ball better. I think it is crucial you get Raynard into the game early with short passes. Get his confidence up. His body language tells it all.

Damn...the Greensboro newspaper threw Raynard under the bus with that title. "Slumping?" Like he's the full blame for that loss last week! Boy if Raynard was under pressure before, he's under mega-pressure now!
