I think if Mr. Cohen leads us to another MEAC Championship and gain over 1000 yards he will have his number retired. I think he is that close that we go ahead and do it right now. What does everyone else think?

Right now? No.
The year after he graduates? As the all-time leading rusher, why not?

Well Aggie historians, what's been our history on retiring numbers in football? I think it's a nice idea but what have we done in the past?

I like what UNC does with their basketball players (I Say that with hesitation as some folks get upset with any mention of us doing anything like our flagship institution). They have retired and honored numbers, with a set of criteria to qualify for each. I know that A&T traditionally does not retire numbers and I think that it would be a great way to honor more Aggies without having to retire a lot of numbers since its something that we don't normally do.
Also, does anyone know the story behind the number 3 being out of circulation for the football team?

I'd retire the jersey, not the number.

Well Aggie historians, what's been our history on retiring numbers in football? I think it's a nice idea but what have we done in the past? We have retired three numbers for athletes who passed away under unfortunate circumstances while in school. As far as performance related retirement? Alan Hooker and Elvin Bethea come to mind right off. There might be another but I'm not sure.

The great thing about this is that the young man could careless about the number the only number he care about is #1 not #28 So the best way to honor him is to do everything posible to send him out on top So lets talk about $ not # AGGIE PRIDE

Few players reach the criteria to qualify to have there # Retired permanently ! More may reach the criteria to have there number honored and not Retired . As for me Mr. Cohen- AKA (The Kid) has by far Distanced and Overachieved the Criteria and should have his # Retired Permanently at the Appropriate time . If he leads us to another MEAC Championship and gain over 1000 yards or Not there will be a long time before we see the another player of his size and ability ! His # 28 jersey should never be worn again . Also The Kid should be given the Uniform Number Honor to decide if his # can be unretired and given to any active player. That is what I would do !!!

I wouldn't say No or Yes ! Because everyone has there own opinions about what the Criteria for the best player in A&T's History should be. I will say this you can not exclude The Kid from the Conversation by any means because he did more with less then most players that have played at Tee.

Saabman, #28 The Kid has one more year left at T. He can solidify his name as one of the best if he has a great year.
He plays in a skilled position and gets great coverage. There are guys who are or have been just as great but don't get the same coverage because of their positions.
Don't get me wrong because #28 is a bad "watch yo mouth".
I am positive I have witnessed more players than you from T and I put The Kid in the top 5 players.
He can move up this year to number 2 because no matter what he does I don't think he can surpass NFL HALL OF FAMER Elvin Bethea's career at T. I saw him play for 3 years and he was unreal.
Bethea was great in track also.

If he stays healthy Cohen will become the MEAC's all time leading rusher by game six. Hell, if he does that and wins another POY he'll be in the conversation as MEAC's all-time best player. I think that should answer our questions about his place as an Aggie legend. As far as the jersey goes didn't Mayhew and Ferguson wear #28? Since other great players have worn that number I wouldn't retire it. Instead I'd do like Syracuse with the #44 and give it to our most deserving tailback every few years. We need a ring of honor or the equivalent for Aggie Stadium.

I think they could possibly retire #28 if they retire other jerseys of former great football players at T who played before him.
His performance this year would have to be off the charts to be the all time great at A&T.

"I am positive I have witnessed more players than you from T and I put The Kid in the top 5 players" I'm from Greensboro and my Father is in the Aggie Hall of fame, started going to A&T games as a baby, even played there with Rags. So there is not to many great Aggies that I haven't seen, So I would have to disagree with you on that statement Aggieblackie What I'm saying is that you would have to include The Kid in any conversation about Aggie football greats . His numbers Speak for Themselves! DECKS :The number # 44 worn by Jim Brown, Ernie Davis and Floyd Little, was initially retired in 2005. Now it's being made available again. But who will wear the # ? The last player to wear the jersey was fullback Rob Konrad in 1998.
