Earlier today I was told from someone currently employed with Aggie athletics that, barring a last minute change by ESPN, both the Hampton & Norfolk State home games will be moved to Thursday night. An official announcement from ESPN is expected in the coming weeks.

Here's that portion of the schedule: Sept 10: at Kent St. Sept. 17: at Tulsa Sept. 24: Bye Sept. 29: Hampton (ESPNU) Oct. 6: Norfolk St (ESPNU) Oct. 15: at Bethune-Cookman 12 days to recover from back-to-back FBS games... 2 TV games to pocket an extra $100K and for ESPN to showcase Tarik Cohen.... and an extra 2 days rest in prep for the road trip to Daytona. This actually deserves a pat on the back.

Does ESPN pay $100,000 for a game ? Now reduce it by the lost attendance ..doubt if many fans will travel on a Thursday night. Of course it will create exposure for Cohen...

Man, listen... This actually deserves a pat on the back. The biggest negative is that we lose TWO possible good "gates" from fan bases traveling down from Hampton Roads (they aren't coming)...and that we aren't going to draw from our own fan base on a Thursday night as well as we would on a Saturday, no matter which way you slice it.

ESPNU pays about $50K per game... so, roughly 2,000 adult tickets. But the exposure you'll get for putting us on TV against two so-so defensive teams with Tarik Cohen as a senior trying to get to the NFL... the exposure is waaaaayyy more advantage than fans coming down from the Tidewater area to maybe bump your attendance up to 17K... maybe... Tarik Cohen is a known commodity by the ESPN community from the backflip catches to the Celebration Bowl. You get him (and, consequently, A&T) on national TV as much as you can while you have him. No brainer when you have a STAR.... share him with the world and make him an even bigger star... and all the other players get their shine, too. Ragland gets more pub... so do the Keyes Bros. Whoever wins the QB battle gets 2 games in a row on the national stage. Imagine if we hang up 40+ pts on Hampton on ESPNU one week with some serious offensive fireworks... can you imagine the buzz and the ratings for the next week's game against Norfolk? We'll be talking about it for decades... When you have a big short-term marketing chip... you leverage that chip for all it's worth. That chip is Tarik Cohen. He will win with the exposure... and so will A&T.

You and I both know that the exposure for A&T with Tarik Cohen as the centerpiece is worth way more than the gates we would get from Hampton and Norfolk being on a Saturday. There's more in the gates.... but that's not where the real money is. It's the exposure factor and becoming marketable to a larger fan base. ESPNU hasn't really gotten good performances from the MEAC the last two years. We might be able to give the nation back-to-back fireworks shows. This would definitely be the right move, IMO.

Our Thursday night games usually do as well or better than Saturday games. Sent from my SM-N910P using proboards

We've averaged a little over 14,000 for Thursday night TV games held in Aggie Stadium. Get used it - this is what becoming a consistent winner breeds.

I can roll up from Charleston for that thursday nighter...then catch SCSU/BCU Saturday in Orangeburg....hmmmmmmm This likely won't happen, but... Imagine if we get the two home ESPNU games with Hampton and NSU... BCU beats SCSU... and then ESPNU gets the bright idea to schedule A&T vs. BCU as its next Thursday night game. BCU likely won't go for that (even though they would get the ESPNU check)... but that would be an amazing 3-game run for us.

Most likely, it will be a tape delay. Only time will tell.
