We won't be special if they allow Quick throw the ball 32 times per game. We have to focus on his strengths. Quick is unbelievable.....WHEN HE'S RUNNING!!!! We cannot have him throwing the ball 32 times and expect to win. Screens, quick outs/ins, quick slants, the occasional bomb.......that's it. No intricate passing routes. The feet of Quick and Cohen should be the foundation from which everything else we do revolves around. The stats don't lie: 13 of 32, 0 TD, 2 INTs......BUT 3 TD RUNS!!!! Stick with what Quick does best!!!! One final note from the last game - we were 8 out of 18 in 3rd down completions (44%) --- that's pretty daggone good, especially when it came against a top 5 FCS opponent. When you're converting 3rd downs, you keep the ball in your hands and keep drives going. Hopefully we can keep 3rd down conversion rates at 40% for the rest of the year. That would bode well for all future contests.... neighborhoodsuperstar, I love reading your posts because you are as passionate about my Aggies as anybody I've met. That said, I would be shocked if you came on here and talked about all the positive things the team did. You are right, there's a lot that needs to be corrected and the coaching staff and the players are not perfect. The things you point out are right on but don't forget we are still playing college football with young men that are still perfecting their game. They will get better but it will take more time and more games. Keep the passion!

me personally, i’m pretty patient with quick because he brings a lot more “experience” to the table that our other qb’s don’t have. so far, i’m not that disappointed in quick’s passing ability like a lot of other folks are. he’ll never be a true “pocket passer”, but as long as he’s accurate enough to keep the defense honest, i think we’ll be okay.
i like the idea that quick’s running ability takes a lot of pressure off of cohen because defenses can’t just key on cohen when we run the read option. they have to account for quick too. so on occasion, i’d like to see us run a “fake” read option, have quick pull the ball out of cohen’s gut and drop back for a pass. i think we can take advantage of some “one-on-one” matchups that way because defenses have to respect both cohen and quick’s running ability.
to me, i wouldn’t tinker with quick as our starter. i wouldn’t want quick looking over his shoulder. to me, i’m gonna live or die by where quick takes us. the only time i would put one of our backup qb’s in the game is if quick flat out stinks up the joint or in games that we have a big lead. otherwise, quick is my guy and i think his passing ability will slowly improve as the season goes along. i like the "leadership" quick has shown so far...

mb1969, Positive or negative, I call what I see..... You may not believe it, but going 8 out of 18 on third down conversions is nothing to gloss over. That's a BIG POSITIVE. 3rd down conversions isn't a sexy topic to talk about, but that's meat and potatoes football if you ask me.
Another thing - I had us beating CCU 27-26....there's no way on earth I would have predicted us beating CCU over any of the past 3 years. I am very optimistic about this team, as are many other Aggies. There's no way anyone can say we aren't going in the right direction......even me......

A77, Hey man, I agree our AD needs to also focus his energy on making sure more Aggies come to all the home games. However, I've been to some away games at non-HBCU institutions. We showed up big at App St. We showed up big at CCU 2 years back. We showed up big at Elon years prior. Yes, it is incumbent upon us to fill our own stadium, but it bothers me the paucity of numbers Elon brought to Aggie Stadium last year. Elon was 1-1 when we played them last year....they had not yet known how bad their team was. What I'd be curious to know is how well non-HBCU teams we play travel to other stadiums. If Elon's travel to other schools is as lame as it is to Aggie Stadium, then we all need to squash this....but if they travelled well to App St, WCU or other schools in the SoCon (and now the CAA), then something's wrong. WE ARE THEIR CLOSEST FCS OPPONENT. Believe it or not, most if not all of us die hard Elon fans are very happy that we have resumed what we perceive to be a "cross town" rivalry with A&T. No one I know of has the slightest fear of traveling to A&T. In fact, We travel better to A&T than we ever did to App. Last year was especially bad because of the prior two years of our program plummeting. The majority of our fans had given up on the coaching staff. Hopefully, we have reached the bottom and are heading back in the right direction with Coach Skrosky & crew. The truth is, even when we were ranked in the top 10 a few years back, we still didn't travel well. If you take the band away, we likely never took more than 600-700 to App, our arch rival at the time. We certainly have done better than that at A&T in the past. I have a lot of respect for Coach Broadway, and am impressed with what he's done in a short amount of time. I would love to come on here and talk some smack about how badly Elon will beat A&T on Saturday. But frankly, I'm just hoping we'll give y'all a very competitive game. At this point, We have just started our turnaround and you all are in your second year. So, I'll feel more comfortable talking about next year's game than this year's. Looking forward to the game and the A&T band.

I agree that Cohen should have had a few more touches. CCU did a pretty good job of plugging holes between the center and tackle; however when Cohen ran a sweep or pitchback end he was able to pick up 3-4 yards even when its was nothing there. The guy is special with great vision and cutback ability. A sweep or pitch back just gives him more time to probe for the right role / running lane. I dont worry about him losing yards because if he has space he is gone beat a defender in a one-on-one match up.

Elon puts freshmen in mix for early action By Adam Smith / Times-News Published: Thursday, September 11, 2014 at 12:38 AM.ELON — Ready or not, whether coach Rich Skrosky prefers or not, four true freshmen are being asked to develop on the fly this season for the Elon football team. There has been no waiting with linebackers Bruno Anyangwe and Johnathan Jackson, safety Malcolm Galloway and receiver Tre Lennon, a promising first-year group that played in the Phoenix’s only game, the opener at Duke. Complete Article: linkElon puts in work without game to play By Adam Smith / Times-News Published: Saturday, September 6, 2014 at 01:20 AM.ELON — This weekend’s open date on the schedule has arrived abnormally early for the Elon football team. So the Phoenix, just one game into its season, hasn’t treated this as a typical bye, when rest and recharging usually are at a premium. “We’re not doing that by any means,” first-year coach Rich Skrosky said this week. Elon approached practices Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday with the diligent, lets-get-to-work mindset of developing better fundaments and cleaning up mistakes, while also beginning to prepare for next Saturday night’s home opener against North Carolina A&T — the first of 11 straight weeks of games for the Phoenix. Pain of A&T’s missed opportunity still resonates
Posted: Thursday, September 11, 2014 6:30 am
By Jeff Mills/News & Record jeff.mills@news-record.com If you’re into moral victories and finding positives in a loss, bless your heart, you’re not cut out to play football for Rod Broadway. N.C. A&T lost 31-30 to Coastal Carolina — then the No. 4 team in the FCS rankings — last week on a missed extra point and a 99-yard kickoff return. Elon coach Rich Skrosky called it “flukey” after watching the tape. And Broadway? Well … “We lost the freakin’ ball game,” the A&T coach said. “It’s hard and it’s disappointing. It was a game we thought we could win. ... No, it’s not a step forward, not when you lose. A loss is a loss.” It's still fair to call A&T a rebuilding project in Broadway’s fourth season. But the days of turning lemons into lemonade are over. "You don’t play for (moral victories). At least we don’t,” Broadway said. “Our standards are higher than that. We’ve tried to get our guys to understand that. Here’s the deal: As a football coach, you like to see improvement made daily. But I would rather look awful and win than look really good and lose. It’s all about winning.”
Next up for A&T is a short drive to another rebuilding project at Elon, where the Aggies play the Phoenix at 6 p.m. Saturday at cozy Rhodes Stadium. Elon has lost seven games in a row and nine of its last 10 dating to last season, including a 23-10 loss at Aggie Stadium last September. “Coastal won by the skin of their teeth,” Elon’s first-year coach Rich Skrosky said. “... Coastal’s a good team — a team that went out to Montana last year and won a playoff game. So we’re going to have our hands full with A&T. ... Their speed and explosiveness on offense is what really scares me.” For the rest of the story: www.news-record.com/sports/pain-of-a-t-s-missed-opportunity-still-resonates/article_365b3e8e-395a-11e4-b493-001a4bcf6878.html

That was a nice article.
I called this out on a thread already.... but our WRs need to help their QB out. He wasn't as bad as the number indicate.
I counted 6 drops/whiffs... the coaching staff counted 7.... the speedsters have to do better than that.
It may not matter in the rain... but hopefully we see a package of plays for Denzel Keyes in the slot.
I can't wait...

The rain is expected to clear out of the area a couple of hours before kickoff this evening. The weather may not matter of the Aggies come prepared to play according to Ed Hardin..... Hardin: Track team speed boosts Aggies in football
By Ed Hardin ed.hardin@news-record.com | Posted: Friday, September 12, 2014 8:52 pm
GREENSBORO — Speed. Some teams have it, some just think they have it. At N.C. A&T, it’s the cornerstone of the program. In fact, it’s the cornerstone of two programs. “Track and football,” Aggies wide receiver Desmond Lawrence said. “We’ve got a lot of both here. We have some guys who can really run.” So many that sometimes an A&T football game can quickly turn into a track meet. In the very first game of the season against Alabama A&M, the Bulldogs found out quickly how fast the Aggies really are, just as Appalachian State found out in the first game last year. Until you see it, you can’t really believe it. “People underestimate our speed,” wide receiver Caleb Gabriel said. Those games, like so many others, became a blur of big plays from the line of scrimmage and on special teams. In fact, the Aggies don’t even slow down on defense. Some around the A&T football program believe the fastest players on the team are the defensive backs. Lawrence laughs when he hears that. And he shrugs. He’s the one player in the program, both the programs in fact, who doesn’t have to say a word. Lawrence might be the fastest runner in all of college football. Anywhere. In June, the junior sprinter from Durham finished seventh in the NCAA 100-meter dash, running in the championship final in a time of 10.24. The track All-America had run a 10.12 in the semifinal. “There are some fast runners here,” he said after a recent football practice. He didn’t finish the sentence. He didn’t have to. Lawrence said it’s a friendly competition among all the players on the team. Rod Broadway, the A&T coach, encourages the give and take. He marvels at the speed of his team, and he doesn’t limit his praise to the dozen or more players on the roster who ran track in high school or still run now for the A&T track and field program. “It’s part of the plan,” Broadway said. “We’ve got linebackers who can run. We’ve got tight ends who can run.” Duane Ross is the track and field coach at A&T. He loves football, and he believes the two go hand in hand. “Speed is the foundation of every sport,” Ross said. “Track builds you up mentally and physically. In track, you’re trying to get faster every day. It becomes part of your mentality.” For the rest of the story: www.news-record.com/sports/hardin-track-team-speed-boosts-aggies-in-football/article_45360d62-3ae0-11e4-93c0-001a4bcf6878.html

I'm gettin' kind of geeked for this game. How times have changed. 4-5 years ago, you couldn't have paid me to go to an away game. It was hard enough mustering the enthusiasm to drive up to Aggie Stadium (and that's with purchasing season tickets) to watch some God-awful bad Aggie football.
I'm expecting some big things this afternoon. I have a feeling Rhodes Stadium is gonna be Aggie Stadium East. Certain sections' tickets are already gone (around the band), and the other visitor side sections are filling up fast. THE ENTHUSIASM IS BACK!!!!
