i think eaves has the kind of personnel that is conducive to full court or 3 quarters court pressure. and to be honest, he does have a bench that can go 10 or so deep against most meac teams. so why not press more often?
he gave coppin state fits with his full court pressure and siverand had a lot to do with that by using his length aggressively. eaves has a bunch of "slashers" who have length on his team but no major inside presence. to me, that spells full court pressure all day.
if i were eaves and i had the personnel he has, i'd play to my strength which is not the half court game, it's the full court transition game. i'd have the most "physically fit" and "best conditioned" team on the east coast and then dare teams to try to run with me! the only catch is that guys must buy into playing hard nose aggressive defense with 100% effort...

That's one of the reasons why I don't understand his coaching strategies. The only thing he is missing is that one big man in the hole as the last defense if a team breaks down the press. But, hey, if you got the horses let them run.......he can't see that!!!

LOL - I agree I could care less where we get players as long as they can ball. As I said earlier Eaves does a good job recruting - there is talent on his team. My question is if we are going to play 10-12 guys why dont we bring more presure. Instead of our token press. I got to think Eaves strategy of so many players is to wear down the opponent ? You can't wear down and opponet if you play a slow tempo game with no full out press.

i've had teams that didn't need a big man as a last defense. that's where speed and quickness comes into play. or, if ya have concerns about your press breaking down, you press 3 quarters court instead of full court. that way, the paint is defended from the get go and you never get beat for an uncontested layup.
man, i'd have cats like witter, siverand, estes, buck, and powell filling the lanes on the break and throwing down dunks! man, i'd adopt former arkansas razorbacks coach, nolan richardson's style of play. remember that? he called it "40 minutes of hell". he described it as "relentless" full court pressure, frequent substitutions, and scoring in leaps and bounds.
but you can't play that style unless your team is in "superior" shape conditioning wise. otherwise, it won't work...

On point again OSA ;D We have the players (you named them) to play and up tempo game like the Razorbacks.

I just think our team doesn't play fundamental defense. If a team is bigger than you on the interior and there's a missed shot, BOX OUT!!!! Half the battle of playing good defense is good defensive position...beating your man to the spot that he wants to get to. If you can do just those two things decently, a lot of times you can get the opposing team into foul trouble. But, our players stand flat-footed and watch the ball come off the rim while the other team rebounds and put the ball back in. I hate that with a passion.

Until we get some actual inside presence and size on the defensive boards, it won't make any difference what kind of guards we have.

Heard it through the grapevine ... A&T is trying to get NBA Trainer Jerry Powell to coach here next year. Rumor or fact?

Thanks for the very interesting and informative article. A&T could use a great trainer at all of their positions. However, there is nothing in the article indicating that he is a basketball coach.

Those officials were terrible, but MEAC officials are always terrible in BB and football.
