aggie1 I'm guessing you have been at the practices and watched the white coach work with Coleman 1 on 1 fo hours since he is the "reason" Coleman is playing good... have you eve thought about this Coleman realizing he has the potential to make 100's of thousands of dollas after James Porter went over seas? aggie2ru your Mr. 500 Jokes ae really funny but then I began to think Eaves last 4years he has finished atleast 3 games above 500 not including last year. Could his .500 record be because he took a program that only won a game the year before he got here? I agee that his teams under acheive but blowing a 13 point lead isn't on the coach. You can draw up all the X's and O's you want but losing last night has nothing to do with coaching

His replacement, if it comes to that, is already on the sidelines beside him.

Eaves will be with A&T for a long time. After reading comments on the board, one would assume he has more supporters than detractors. Most responses seem to say he is doing a credible job after eight seasons. Everyone is entitled to his point of view. I don't have one. I have lived with mediocrity for so long that it does not really matter. His overall record after seven years was 61-121, and MEAC record was 40-62. He will eventually win one or both of the MEAC prizes, the "law of average" has to kick in at some point. Hopefully, this year. Last year's team was better. Most of the today's cast of characters were on that team. The difference was the talent and size at the point.
There have been some talented teams. Remember the team Jones was on several years ago? Remember the A&T "seven"? These are recent teams.

I really don't see how we can say Eaves will be at "T" for a long time. Im different I dont give in to MEDIOCRITY because I been fighting ALL my life and I think that IS the AGGIE way to fight for EXCELLENCE (Martin's words). This can be a NEW DAY but aint NUTHIN in life free and easy WE just got to recognize and KNOW what to do when IT'S looking at us dead in the face. I'm grateful for what Jerry did to bring us where we are today but I can see HE will never take us to the next level. I dont want to stay STUCK. I want us to MOVE up and if that means Eaves (MR. 500 in MEAC) got to go to for us take the next step-HE GOT TO GO. Im hoping like a AGGIE BIG DOG that he makes me stop feeling what I AM SEEING!!!! Eaves the last 5 years, including this year so far, is 39-37 in MEAC. That is a .513 winning percentage for "MR. .500 in MEAC." Has anyone thought about next year when Coleman is gone? Has anyone looked on the bench to see who will take his place next year? Has anyone realized that as of right now with Coleman we are 5-5 in the MEAC ----that is brother man's MO (.500 IN MEAC) Man, I want to be dead wrong but I know I aint just seeing things. He should feel HEAT if we dont move forward. This year's team is bettter than last year's slightly but horrible coaching had them last year jacking up 3's and that was it. This is the year for Eaves to produce---if he doesn't some folks at the top gonna be hearing a little sumthin, sumthin. I aint no MEDIOCRE nig and I dont believe in the "law of averages" or luck. I was taught aint NOBODY gonna give you nothing AND I HAVE to MAKE my own luck. WILL THE CIRCLE BE UNBROKEN?? BORN and BRED

Iwoe, Coleman has been at A&T for 4 years. If someone had coached him the correct way at first he really would have been a monster. He is having his best year since his very good freshman year. Rest assured it was not Eaves who got Coleman to play hard and better this year. It was the head assistant who got Coleman playing this way. Eaves can't even coach the guards correctly and he was a guard. Rest assured Porter is not making 100 of thousands of dollars a year.
Eaves took over a program almost 9 years ago that had won 1 game. That is light years ago in the basketball world. Eaves should have had enough good players in at least his 4th year to win a championship. He has had 8 years of OJT and he still has not been over the .500 mark. We will always be a .500 program under Eaves helm. I appreciate what he has done for our program and I know he he is a good family man. However, he has taken us a far as he can and it will not get any better if he is here another 8 years. I am from the old, old school and I have been watching Aggie basketball since the early 60's. We were known for a great basketball program here from the 50"s through Coach Don Corbett. After Coach Corbett our porgram went South and it is at it's worse now. We need a coach who can carry us to the next level. Eaves has done all he can do. Watch out for the Assistant Head Coach ... He will be our next head coach. I am the first to tell you this. Mark my "WORD".

Gracious aggie2ru,
You are going to bust a vessel. That post is "tongue in cheek". There are some hidden truths in there. One is, last year's team was better, but did what this year's team as well as teams in other years have done. Losing too many winnable games. Why? Most people say it is Eaves fault. More than probable. Every starting player with the exception of Powell played a significant number of minutes last season (lost 3 players). The overall record and MEAC record posted tells you a lot about the success or failure of the program. It's there for anyone to figure out or scrutinize. The program has slipped into mediocrity, and has been there even before Eaves took the post as head coach. It is a dastardly continuum. It is like the economy, makes very minute movement (under Eaves) towards recovery which is definitely not good. No one likes or should accept mediocrity. Can you fire Eaves after eight seasons? Sure it can be done, but I don't see that happening in the forseeable future because of other pressing athletics matters and he seems to be well liked by some folks. Law of averages is a statistical probability, but was in the post simply as humor. So save yourself from self inflicted high blood pressure and read the post more carefully and take it lightly.
On a serious note. My question the fourth and fifth year was how long? It now appears that it will be a long time.

Should'nt some of you have something more to do than to keep pulling on Eaves "sack". It does not matter if he is a good coach or not, the BOT voted to extend his contract so we might as well get use to him being around for a while, like it or not. Was it a good move to extend his contract? No, but it is what it is.

I guarantee ya!!! that Dr. Martin is in no mood to look for another headcoach in a high profile sport this year. Maybe next year, but sure as heck not this year after this long debacle of a coaching search that just ended with surprising luck and success.

Im being mis-read because I WANT to see Eaves ("Mr. .500 in M,EAC") be successful because I have an invested interest in this thing just like all of us do. I contribute financially each year and I bleed BLUE and GOLD. I fully understand he is a likeable guy and just signed a 3 year extension last year. I also can PLAINLY see that we are in STUCK mode .500 in MEAC year after year. I have choices do I accept what's taking place and just say oh well, it is what it is or do I voice my opinion (Im not by myself) and let those who make decisions know what are a lot of people are thinking? I most defintely have done this and BELIEVE me, people may think administration doesn't have a sharp eye on Eaves and he's safe in his job-I know that is not entirely the case. Its should be obvious which route I have chosen to take until I see otherwise. A&T 4-"If nothing changes, nothing changes"-EXCELLENCE (MARTIN). This is 2011 it's time to take it to the next level. If Eaves cant do it do we just sit back and say-it is what it is??? BORN and BRED

Were focused on coaches while Engineering, Nursing, Education & Technology don't have Deans. Well this is a message board focused on A&T Athletics. And I think MOST if not ALL members of this board know that Academics is paramount to the success of A&T as a whole. Most of us donate and have donated to the university's general fund or will give and have given money directly to these departments and schools. So most of us know about the priorities Chancellor Martin has and must take to continue to improve the school. However, Athletics isn't called a schools front porch for a reason. Most people who do not have a clue about A&T will first hear about our Football or Basketball teams. I guarantee you that if Eaves or whomever leads our men's basketball team to the NCAA Tourney and actually win some ball games, more people would become interested in the school as a whole. So while yes, Chancellor martin "has 'better' things to do", It would be absolutely silly to just ignore Athletics, again. Hasn't years of ignoring Athletics and not supporting the department as need led to the crap we went through for the decade almost? BTW: I am quite sure those Schools have Interim Deans in place that are doing a wonderful job and new Deans will be in place at the start of the 11-12 school year.

Very true West Coast. You gave some excellent points about alot thats wrong with our "group think".
I understand fully the purpose of this group just as much as I understand that even though this is an athletic forum, many discussions ranging many different facets of the University are covered.
I think in your attempt at sarcasm you missed my point which is what i expected.
Alot of students are complaining about the Interim Deans you boast of and while the thought of having a full administrative staff in place for 11-12 is a novel idea, some of these vacancies are going into their 2nd and 3rd year.
This is a sounding board for all conversations in regards to A&T. Lets not just limit it to athletics for argument sake. Alot of people have their eyes on what we discuses and results happen. Not just on the field or court.
We have seen the strides our conversations in this forum have made in management of Athletics. It would be interesting to see what other change we can affect. Or maybe we should just enjoy sitting on the front porch.

Complain about Deans? Most students don't even know the name of their dean and often times confuse them with Chairs. Don't you think that there are search committees interviewing now? You can attend one of the interviews for the nursing candidate on Monday. The College of A&S has already named their new dean.
Now back to Eaves. I believe he has a lifetime contract that requires him to at least finish somewhere near the .500 mark. I'm looking for a slam dunk by the Aggies in the tourney. Law of averages at work.
