Unfortunately, we have to keep him for right now because he still has two left on his contract--UNLESS we eat the rest of the contract. Realistically, just making a huge football hire for 5 yrs. guaranteed and other personnel hires in AD dept./track coach I feel that Eaves is prob safe at least through next yr. I am just not sold on the idea that Evaes can take us to the top. His coaching style and his recruiting reveals where he is stuck at and that is a .500 MEAC coach. Could we be doing worse w/somebody else? Yes. That is why, if and when it is done, the next coach has to be the right fit to take us to the top. In the best case situation for us, Eaves some kind of way feels the heat from administration, alumni, supporters, and from his NEW ASSISTANT, Phillip Stith that we appreciate what he has done in his 8 yrs., he got paid for it and he was given his first head coaching job here--- an even swap aint no swindle--- but the program has been stable for 4 yrs. now and NOW is the time to acheive EXCELLENCE(words of our chancellor-its a new day) , not mediocrity. That's all I'm saying---we need to support our coaches but also hold them ACCOUNTABLE!!!! Any coach that is good enough to take us to the top is already employed and doing well (ex:Broadway). Hopefully, Eaves feels the heat and we wont have to make another power move like we did w/Broadway. I want to see us be at the top like we suppose to be. BORN AND BRED

no i dont feel we should fire eaves but someone should tell him that this level of performance is unacceptable. something they didn't do last time they gave him a new contract. and that his contract will not be renewed if he cannot make "drastic" improvement. drastic would mean win a conference championship (regular season). After ten seasons thats not too much to ask.

So if Eaves can win a Conference regular season and/or a MEAC tournament this year or next year you guys will stop all the Firing talk?
Im going out on a limb and say he wins the tournament this year. With Coleman playing the way he is it's the best TEAM he has had since he got here. The way the regular season is going there is no favorite.
If they can somehow get it together against the press they should easily win it.

As quiet as it's kept, there is still a chance for us to win the Reg. Season this year.

The team is doing OK aside from a few press breakdowns and a couple of player fizz-outs in the clutch. If your talking about firing Eaves then your firing half the MEAC head coaches right now. I might start agreeing with you guys if one thing happens this year and that's a first round exit from the MEAC tournament. No excuse for that this year.

From what I have noticed most of this talk came about after the central loss. And for most people that don't really know basketball it would look like Eaves got out coached in that game but really he didn't that was some of the best coaching he had done in the 6 yeas that I have been around.
Central came out and hit their first 5 3's that game and if u look at that stat sheet you will see A&T remained consistent with their percentages thoughout the game. When they were doubling and Running zone plays Eaves still found ways to get Coleman the ball. That night just wasn't A&T's night. A missed 3 by Simpson our second leading scorer, a missed 3 by Witter who has hit clutch shots for A&T all year (UNCW in ot and against SCSU) and a missed steal by Powell all in OT shows that A&T had their chances at that game.
But my question is if A&T wins against Cental and loses the same games it has lost would you still be asking for a new coach

Not really, my feel is that Eaves is a .500 MEAC coach who has POTENTIAL to be better if we put fire under his azzzzz. After 8 years we should be contending for a conference championship/NCAA torneyment bid, not hovering around or close to .500 in conference. I started my last 2 years in high school and I am a student of the game and a loyal AGGIE and contributor financially to our school. I have seen us have too many 4 to 7 seeds or worse in the MEAC tourneyment and one and dones the last 4 years. Eaves has stablized the program but it is time to take the next step and start winning championships or at least closely contending for championships. Bozeman at Morgan did it in 2 yrs. This is Jerry's 8th year. Is this the year??? I certainly hope so!!!!! We just need to SUPPORT but keep the heat on to make sure we get the results we are looking for.

Well, we are 2 games out of the #1 seed for the MEAC tourney and all but one of our MEAC losses were by about 5 points or less, including a 2 point loss to Morgan in Baltimore, and 2 OT victories in conference. We have improved from last season.

Much Love and Respect West Coast Aggie----You are correct WE HAVE improved over last year's team and we SHOULD have. Eaves had them taking record-breaking 3 point attempts(and as a team we were poor 3 pt shooters) instead of feeding Coleman in the post and establishing an inside out game. I remember the glory years when Cal Irvin and Don Corbett were coaches. We were a BASKETBALL FACTORY and known nationwide. After 8 yrs. it is time to do more than just improve we should keep the heat on until we we get EXCELLENCE(words of Martin). Their is not a REAL dominate team in the league this year that is why we are only 2 games out. Remember we are just 5-4 in MEAC. I am looking to go all the way. 8 yrs is longer than a lot of coaches get. I am aware of the improvements leading up to this year and the shape the program was in when Eaves took over. If we dont do it this yr while Coleman is here who has Eaves recruited to take his place? Let's hold him accountable to put protection on our money!!!!!

There is no dominant team this year because the league is better as a whole this season in my opinion. It's been tons of OT games by everyone and not only against MEAC squads. It's good ball being played this year. The last four years it had been hard watching a MEAC game. They were so dry and boring. Not to mention the execution was horrible. That's all different this year. We will win the tournament.

Congrats to Coach Bibbs on her recent signings!!!!!! Maybe she can get some 2011-12 recruits for Eaves since Coleman is leaving next year. Hopefully he will man up and prove me wrong and win it all this year instead of being an annual .500 or lower MEAC coach. Believe me----this is one time I WANT to be wrong!!!! Just going w/the gut and I just aint convinced.

We blew a 12 or 13 point lead tonight to an inferior team - Md. Eastern Shore. This happens all of the time and it comes from poor coaching. There are coaches out there who would mortgage their house to coach at A&T. Don't think no one will be breaking their neck to get to A&T. This is a plum job and coaches would kill to be here.
The 'white' coach that sits besides Jerry Eaves and who was instrumental in getting Coleman to finally play up to his potential is quietly waiting in the wings for Eaves job. Why do you think Martin brought him over here for. He hired him at WSSU and he won a CIAA Championship. He hired him again to lay in the cut for Eaves job.
I am sick and tired of Jerry Eaves. He is a good man but he can't COACH. Face it. Other schools especially white schools don't give a coach this many chances. He should have been gone last year. He is Mr. .500 in coaching. He has to win the MEAC for me to keep his job.
Time for a CHANGE.

;D ???Don't worry Eaves (Mr..500 in MEAC) will win one, lose one, win two, lose three in the MEAC and errrone will say, "well, the team is making an improvement." I just remember how it use to be---we DID not settle for LESS than the best!!!! Martin said we are going for EXCELLENCE!! Stith is far better than Eaves. I have been to many of their practices and Stith does more instructional pieces w/team than Eaves. Hell, Eaves just started getting off the bench during games and showing emotion. Check it out sometimes. The opposing coach stands and shows INVOLVEMENT more than Mr. .500. That is his temperment. He had never been a HEAD COACH anywhere until he can here. I hope Martin follows through w/his plan of EXCELLENCE. The man has served his purpose it is time to get a head coach in here that can win CHAMPIONSHIPS!!!!
