Will we waste a valuable marketing opportunity this year by throwing together another half-azzed Spring Game?
This needs the be viewed by the coaching staff and athletic administration as a major offseason event. The marching machine should be there ... rosters should be passed out ... the whole nine.
This would even be a good time to host a state-of-the-program address in the alumni center. Put together a power point presentation and maybe some type of highlight film from 2006 (yeah right) and let Dee Todd or Fobbs field questions directly from a packed room of fans.
It will be a travesty if we had another Spring Game anything like the one we had last year.

I guess I agree...Keith knows what he's doing so I trust 99.9% of the things he plans
You're digging your way out of a ditch already with a 0-11 season and a student body that REALLY doesn't give 2 *turds* but anything is possible, I'm behind the Blue & Gold game 100%, if you need an announcer (not PA because John is almost a legend) but like a play-by-play or color person, get at me!
It's BDF Month, where are all the t-shirts, flyers, stickers? Where is the guerilla advertising team, tagging street signs and classroom buildings all over the yard? Everytime I go to App St. I see borderline graffiti for sites ran by students, this one is better than all those, let's go!

Well Thrilla,
I would say this.. I know keith too and trust that he has probably tried to do something big with the spring game. But remember he has to honor the wishes of those in charge and he cant just go off and do stuff just because....If i had to bet id say that if it ends like it has been( and id feel safe in saying it will be).. it wont be because theres no desire to do more with the spring game...

All due respect, but King Midas is the DIRECTOR OF SPORTS MARKETING.
I think it's primarily his responsibilty to have a sit down with Dee Todd and Fobbs and explain to them why its ESSENTIAL that this year's Spring Game be a bigtime event - or at least bigger than its been in year's past.
I mean, of all the people in our athletic department, King Midas would be the best person to make such an event happen. Fobbs, understandably, is concentrating on evaluating his players and installing his playbook. Todd is busy running the department. However, there needs to be somebody in charge of making sure this year's game has all the necessary bells and whistles.
You've got to give the fans something to get excited about after an 0-11 year.

Thrilla is 100% correct. If you want to sell some season tickets after coming off an 0-11 season then you better create some hype about the spring game.

Stop talking about it and let's exert some energy. Anybody contacted Keith to see what he has up his sleeves? Is there a committee or organization to help get this party started? What would happen if we contacted Chere' at WNAA and ask her to do a PSA!!!!

I don't see what the problem is.
The BDF is willing to help out with whatever. You've got Aggie Mike volunteering to do play-by-play for free. All the marching machine has to do is pull out one of its routines from 06. You can start runing promos for the game for free on WNAA.
Why not use the resources you already have in place?
If we have the same travesty of a Spring Game that we did last year, I am gonna officially downgrade King Midas to Prince Midas.

Good idea about the spring game thrilla. I feel the players would enjoy it also. They also need something to feel good about going into next season. If the players and coaches see that the school and the fans are enthused about the football program, then that will only help. Like I said, good idea!!

Thrilla, if you decide to call a gathering or put a group together to pull this off, I'll be on your team. Just remember though, 18 days and counting Cous'!

Spring Football Game Bigger and Better than Ever
“Utah Man” Tradition to be Formally Introduced
Media Contacts
April 13, 2004 -- The second annual Ute football Red-White game will be held Saturday, Apr. 17 from 12:15-3 p.m. in Rice-Eccles Stadium, but most of the buzz on campus is over the festivities surrounding the game. New this year are many activities designed to heighten student interest in the team.
During halftime of the Spring Game, “Utah Man” contestants will be introduced and a new tradition officially gets underway. The winner of the annual strength and skills tests, chosen from the student body, will play on the kick-off coverage team and will wear, with pride, the "Utah Man" jersey. He will be a uniting force for the University of Utah and a daily reminder that with hard work and dedication anything in life is possible.
The pre-game fun begins at 8:00 a.m. with a coaching clinic for high school coaches. At 9:30 a.m., students, fans, players and coaches are invited to energize for the day’s events at the Red-White pancake breakfast sponsored by Lions Club of Holladay/Millcreek. The breakfast is open to anyone for a two-dollar admission. University of Utah students get in free with a valid U of U I.D. card.
Immediately before the spring game begins, students will square off in the Muss Flag Football Game from 11:00 a.m. to noon. The game will pit students in the Muss fan club against each other. Ute Defensive Coordinator Kyle Whittingham will coach one of the teams and Offensive Coordinator Mike Sanford will tutor the other squad. The Muss teams will be selected at Dee Glen Smith Center during an official player draft to be held Wednesday, April 14, at 4:30 p.m. A full practice will follow with each team running real plays used by the Ute football team.
The public is invited free of charge to the Spring Game, which will signal the end to spring camp. Receivers Coach Billy Gonzales will coach the Red team and Linebackers Coach Kurt Barber will coach the White team. Pre-game tailgating is encouraged and space for tailgaters will be designated in the west lot adjacent to Rice-Eccles Stadium. Following the game, fans will have the opportunity to collect autographs from the players.

Damn. The things you can come up with just a little creativity and effort. Some people thought Ham-Fest was a pipe dream and it became the most talked about event in the 2007 MEAC basketball season.
Sometimes you just have to decide to be innovative.
