He'll probably be at another school by January.
The man single-handedly put our track program on the national map. Now we are back to square one zero.
This is a shame.

another great coach rolled over by dowdy... do the decision makers in dowdy take responsibility for anything... ?... evidently not... as long as they have a coach or an ad to roll-over... their hands stay clean... this was the perfect opportunity to set the record straight & tell the truth instead of looking for someone to blame... if i were a decision maker in dowdy i would have said this... " because of cost cutting measures to our athletic department the unimaginable happen... a student lost his life... instead of looking for blame... we are going to review our policies... correct what is fudamentally wrong... & work diligently to build a solid foundation for our athletic department.. so something this tragic will never happen again... we owe all of our student athletes that much... may God rest Jospin Milandu soul..."

Truthseeker, if it was your son who died, would accept your explanation? this explanation is me as an administrator taking responsibility instead of finding someone to "roll-over"... all i'm saying is that the powers that be should have stepped up & took full responsibility instead of what they did to "space"...

Did Dowdy tell him to hold an unscheduled/unsupervised tryout practice? This is a tragic event in so many ways. Dowdy's negilgence in this matter is not greyhounding a track coach or anyone else in the athletic department, is Wheeler next, it's the way they have handled this with regards to the boys family.

"The A&T track has hosted the New Balance Nationals since 2005 and also has hosted high school state championship meets along with the Junior Olympics.
“If he’s retiring Dec. 1, I see that means that he won’t coach the track season,” Strable said.
“That’s a sad ending to his tenure there.”
Henri Fourrier, president of the Greensboro Convention and Visitors Bureau, credited Thompson for helping build the city’s reputation as a hotbed for running.
“Greensboro is now in that mix,” Fourrier said. “Eugene, Ore., and Boston used to be a destination.”
My big question is: why weren't there more media/PR blast in the Greater Greensboro area for these national events mentioned above and why didn't more money come A&T way for filling up the hotels and restaurants along with all of those rentals cars being rented for those big events?
I have heard that A&T only get enough money to cover the expenses of running these national track events. The local mass media coverage for these big national events before and during the events was minimal at best. I understand there have been no shortage of publicity for the upcoming US Ice Skating Championship which I believe will be next year. I agree with the publicity but meanwhile do the same for events that are pulling in millions of dollars for the Greensboro business community.
A&T attracts millions of dollars to the Greater Greensboro area each year with these major events sponsored by A&T. I think it is time for A&T to partner with a major hotel chain and start building or acquiring a hotel or two.

It started with a Twitter message Sept. 19: “
Note how Rutgers handled (no comment) the situation of Tyler Clementi's suicide which was precipitated by his roommate and another student streaming him in a sex act with another male on the internet. Pretty much the same way that A&T did. Very similar. Wonder if they will receive the same type of media coverage for their "no comment". His roommate and a female student were arrested and charged with invasion of privacy.
"Clementi’s family issued a statement yesterday confirming the suicide and pledging cooperation with the criminal investigation".
The Star-Ledger of Newark reported that Clementi posted a note on his Facebook page the day of his death: “Jumping off the gw bridge sorry.” Friends and strangers have turned the page into a memorial.
Witnesses told the police they saw a man jump off the bridge just before 9 p.m. Sept. 22, said Paul J. Browne, the New York Police Department’s chief spokesman. Officers found a wallet there with Clementi’s identification, Browne said.
Rutgers officials would not comment on the death or the arrests, or say whether the two defendants had been suspended. But a spokeswoman issued a statement saying that “the university takes these matters very seriously and has policies in place to deal with student behavior.”

A&T should have hit them with a 'no comment' Loose lips sink ships Friday, August 20, 2010 (Updated 3:39 pm) By Jonnelle Davis Staff Writer GREENSBORO — N.C. A&T officials are trying to determine whether its own athletic policies were followed in the aftermath of a student’s death Thursday. Jospin Milandu, 20, of Knightdale, died after collapsing on the track during team tryouts. Athletic Director Wheeler Brown said Friday afternoon that university policy called for all students trying out for a varsity sport to have a complete physical on file and sign a waiver to participate.Brown could not say for sure on Friday whether Milandu had those forms on file. He also said there was no trainer present during the tryouts.“We’re looking into every aspect of what occurred,” Brown said. Brown said Milandu collapsed Thursday evening. The athletes had been running laps but Brown could not provide more specifics about the tryouts. Milandu was taken to Moses Cone Hospital, where doctors determined he died from complications of an elevated heart rate, the university said. Brown said he hopes to know more about what led up to Milandu’s death and whether all policies were followed by early next week. The school stated Milandu was participating in a supervised, voluntary open tryout for the track team on campus. “The Aggie family is deeply saddened by our loss," Chancellor Harold Martin stated in a news release. “Our hearts go out to his family. We have been in close contact with them throughout this unfortunate incident.” The university will provide counseling for students on campus. www.news-record.com/content/2010/08/20/article/reports_nc_at_student_dies_during_track_tryout

I think that Holloway, Wheeler and the new university spokeswoman need to come up with a crisis communication plan ... if they don't already have one.
That would surely help us in the future.

runaggierun, You're right there was an initial comment to the paper with information about the incident, university policy and condolences. Thereafter, under the the directive from the Chancellor there was to be only one voice and no more information that was not already known (most facts were already out). What else could be stated other than a tragic accident had taken place and that rules or policies had been violated. However, the paper (n&r) spent a lot of energy trying to make the university make statements that they were not willing to make. Information is kept very close to the vest at A&T now, since the days of Hackley and his BOT when a federal gag order could not control people's tongues.

I think what happens is that the N&R reporters get mad when A&T tries to initially stonewall and then they go on an all-out crusade to uncover the truth.
A&T's PR people do not have a good rapport with the N&R and have not built up any good will over the years.
Everybody knows that A&T is not very forthcoming when it comes to providing even basic information about an issue and media people get pissed when you waste their time and force them to work harder than they have to. That is just human nature.
Maybe this new Pride lady than Martin just hired will help change that culture.
