I know it's been pretty much doom and gloom around here since the WSSU loss, but here are some things I am optimistic about:
1) The Future is The Present
I told you so. I told you so. I told you so. Anybody who saw Derek Gould perform in the season opener knows why I predicted before his freshman year that he will break every receiving record at this school before his career is over. Last Saturday, he ran perfect routes and caught everything that was thrown to him. All he does in find a way to get open. With a real quarterback throwing him passes, he could average 10 catches and over 100 yards EVERY SINGLE GAME.
2) Justin Ferrell is Justin "For Real"
Yes that kickoff return was breathtaking but I was even more impressed by his coverage ability and tackling skills at the safety position. Right now, he has gotta be on the short list for best defensive backs in the conference. Donald Dorsey played very well also so I don't think it's far-fetched to say we might have the top safety combo in the MEAC right now.
3) Doug Brown is still available.
Put him on the offensive coaching staff and give him some play calling responsibilities and we automatically win a minimum of 3 games this year. He can coach both receivers and DBs and he has a gospel singing voice like you wouldn't believe. I downloaded one of his recent solo gospel mixtapes (Your Arms Are Too Short To Play Bump and Run on Jesus) from itunes and I can't stop jamming it. Check out track No. 7. But as far as his football coaching ability- he's young, passionate and knowledgeable. Give him a shot Coach Lee; you won't be disappointed.
4)Uhhh ... that's about all I got.
Can't think of any more positives right now.
