I just got back: The Cheerleaders & the pep band was there. Wake had a very small band playing a fight song. & an 'old suzanna type' song. A&T's band blew the roof off that MF'n matchbox. We need to have a game in moore gym. I did not know how much I missed that tight vibe.> Wheeler was there. > Calvin came out and hit two FT for a tech , i believe, at the start of the game, then they tipped it up. >The pep band was magnificent! Wake's crowd was looking with admiration. They saw the diversity. > the Aggies filled 3/4th of the joint That was one thing I enjoyed about the game the tight vibe in that small matchbox of a gym The AGGIE fans were into it the entire time. I had a blast....

I think this game is the best opportunity for a post season win. The early tournament exit should revive the fire this team been missing for weeks. Havent seen WF, (and we'll need a quality performance), but it appears (stats) we match up well. No travel impact, should have strong fan support, and several players with post season experience. This is the one we've been waiting for. I was flying over Winston/Greensboro about the time the game ended and felt the Vibe of AGGIE PRIDE!! I don't do this often, but I'll toot my horn on this important win!! ;D Congrats to staff and team.

North Carolina A&T Tops Deacons 73-49
March 18, 2010WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest women's basketball team ended the 2009-10 season with a 73-49 loss to North Carolina A&T in the opening round of the Women's National Invitation tournament in Reynolds Varsity Gym. Wake Forest finishes with an 18-14 record. A&T improves to 22-10 and will face Charlotte in the second round of the tournament. Brittany Waters led the Demon Deacons with 13 points. Senior Courteney Morris and sophomore Secily Ray had the game-high 10 rebounds. Three Aggies scored the game-high 19 points. Jaleesa Sams, Ta'Wuana Cook and Amber Calvin, were all just one point shy of 20. Lamona Smalley had the Aggie-best nine rebounds. The Aggie shooting was on target and the Demon Deacons was unable to answer. Amber Calvin netted 4-of-8 from beyond the 3-point line, helping the team finish 50 percent when shooting 3s and 47 percent overall. Wake Forest out-rebounded the Aggies 48-37. "Our shots just weren't going in. We'd get the rebound and then couldn't do anything with it," Wake Forest head coach Mike Petersen said. A&T jumped out to an 11-0 lead to start the game, gaining momentum off back-to-back 3s from Amber Calvin. Brittany Waters cut the Aggie lead to six points after completing a 3-point play at 17:55, but the Aggies continued to find the net and built a 19-point lead with 6:30 play in the first half. Wake Forest was unable to chip away at the advantage in the second half. The Aggies didn't allow the Deacons to get closer than 15 points and an Amber Calvin layup with one second to play ended the game with a final score of 73-49. - www.WakeForestSports.com -

i like this quote that coach bibbs made in the winston salem journal regarding our fans... Bibbs gave credit to the A&T fans for making the effort."Our fans are the No. 1 fans in the country and we knew if we were anywhere close they would come out," Bibbs said. "That's always our sixth player."www2.journalnow.com/content/2010/mar/18/nc-t-women-blow-out-wake-forest/

AGGIES ADVANCE WITH WIN OVER WAKE
WINSTON-SALEM -- It was never close. It what may also have been the redemption story of the year.
The North Carolina A&T women's basketball team scored the first 11 points of the game on Thursday and went on to blow out Wake Forest 73-49 in the first round of the WNIT at Reynolds Gymnasium.
Jaleesa Sams, Amber Calvin and Ta'Wuana "Tweet" Cook led the Aggies with 19 points apiece.
It was the first postseason win in a national tournament for the North Carolina A&T women’s program. It was also just the second time a MEAC women’s program has won a postseason game, following in the footsteps of Coppin State's win over St. Joseph's in the 2006 WNIT.
"Our kids brought a lot of energy tonight,'' said Bibbs. "We felt by being in postseason play, we gave our four seniors another chance to go out the right way. When we started the season we were hungry. But sometimes you have to get re-focused. And losing in the MEAC Tournament got us re-focused."
N.C. A&T came into the first round WNIT game after having an eight-day layoff following an upset loss to S.C. State in the quarterfinals of the MEAC Tournament in Winston-Salem. The Aggies came into that tournament as the No. 1 seed. They came into the WNIT as an underdog playing against a team from the ACC, one of the Power 6 conferences in the nation.
Yet, Wake Forest looked like the team flustered by the presence of the Aggies. The Deacons had problems finishing on the break and hitting layups. They shot just 28.4 percent from the floor, and they were 1-for-13 from 3-point range.
“I think they were intimidated by us once we got out to a lead,’’ said Sams. “They didn’t look prepared for what we were throwing at them.”
There was an early indication it was going to be a good night for N.C. A&T in the city of Winston-Salem this time. Calvin hit two free throws on a technical foul on the Demon Deacons bench before the ball was even tipped. Calvin didn't stop there. She hit back-to-back threes to give the Aggies an 11-0 lead in the first 90 seconds.
Wake Forest scored the next five points before the Aggies went on a 13-5 run that ended with another Calvin three that gave the Aggies a 24-10 lead with 11:32 remaining in the first half. The closest Wake Forest got the rest of the way was 13 points.
“I told my ladies there are no upsets at this point in the season,’’ said Wake Forest coach Mike Petersen. “This is the postseason. Teams wouldn’t still be playing if they weren’t good. A&T presents a lot of problems because they have bigs that can put the ball on the floor, and they’re very quick defensively.”
The Demon Deacons' season comes to an end at 18-14. They were led by Brittany Waters' 13 points. The Aggies improved to 22-10. They will play Charlotte in round 2 on Sunday afternoon at 3 from Charlotte.
“We had to let the ladies know once again that they are a good team,’’ said Bibbs. “We had to remind them that despite what happened in the (MEAC) tournament, you still won the regular season. It just came down to whether you want your season to end. If you want it to end, it will end. If you don’t want it to end, you come out and play like you played tonight.”

In other words: "Our game plan was better than theirs. Wake got out-coached."

The best part was to see the look on their faces when they realized they weren't gonna win. They started filing out of there early in their own gym.

Aggies women rout Deacons www2.journalnow.com/content/2010/....sports-college/
By John Dell
JOURNAL REPORTERN.C. A&T took care of Wake Forest easily last night in the Women's NIT at sold-out Reynolds Gym. The Aggies jumped all over the Deacons early and never let up, rolling to a 73-49 victory in the first round. With close to 1,000 crammed into the on-campus gym that included both school bands, the atmosphere was as good as it gets. It was so loud that the scorer's table had to resort to using a bullhorn instead of the scoreboard buzzer. And the Aggies' shooting and focus was as good as it gets. "To do this is just another step for us," Coach Patricia Bibbs of the Aggies said of winning their first postseason game in school history. "We knew we had to come out and play a near-perfect game and for the most part we did that." The Aggies (22-10) advanced, and will play UNC Charlotte on Sunday at 3 p.m., and they advanced rather easily. Coach Mike Petersen of the Deacons, who had hoped to have his team playing in the NCAA Tournament but didn't get a bid despite finishing fifth in the ACC, said that the Aggies, who had more fan support last night, came out blazing. "The start wasn't very good after they made three straight 3s and we were down 11-0," Petersen said. "But the biggest thing was we couldn't seem to find a way to make a basket. We had 20 offensive rebounds and I don't know if we put four of them back. We didn't finish around the rim for whatever reason." Because the backboards didn't have the proper specifications by NCAA rules, the Deacons were assessed a technical foul before the game started. Freshman Amber Calvin hit both free throws for the Aggies, then made three straight 3-pointers to give the Aggies an 11-0. It never got any better for the Deacons, who ended their season at 18-14. "Everybody wants to win in the postseason and the team that wants it the most usually wins, and I thought A&T was very good tonight," Petersen said. "They were very focused, made shots and played very hard, and did a much better job than we did." Jaleesa Sams led the way with 19 points, seven rebounds and two steals and Calvin, who averages 10 points a game, and Ta'Wauna Cook each scored 17 points. "I thought they were kind of intimidated by us and weren't really ready or well-prepared," Sams said of the Deacons, who were one of the best defensive teams in the ACC this past season. Petersen was forced to tweak his starting lineup because of an ankle injury to star Sandra Garcia, a freshman post player. The Aggies went right at the Deacons in the middle, but even when Garcia did finally come into the game it hardly mattered. The Deacons trailed by 17 at halftime, but the Aggies went through their only real funk and didn't score in any of their first nine possessions of the second half. The Deacons, however, never made up any ground. "We had opportunities we didn't take advantage," Petersen said. The Deacons had 23 turnovers, shot just 27 percent and were a horrendous 1 of 10 on 3-pointers. Brittany Waters scored 11 points to lead the Deacons, but nobody else scored in double figures. Forward Courteney Morris, the lone senior starter for the Deacons, said: "It was a combination, we didn't get stops and when we did get stops we didn't score on the other end…. We needed everybody to step up and we didn't give our best team effort tonight." With 12:01 to go in the game the Aggies took a 21-point lead on Calvin's three-point play. The closest that the Deacons would come the rest of the way was 15. jdell@wsjournal.com. 727-4081

There's barely anything about this in the News and Record! SAD!!! That's what I don't understand!! How can the "Losing-Record," uh, I mean the "News-Record" not send a staff writer a few miles down the road to cover the Women's NIT in their own backyard?? Have any of you in Greensboro made any calls to the newspaper about that?? And the Charlotte Observer did the same damn thing to UNCC. In fact, I registered a comment at the bottom of the article about that very thing. www.charlotteobserver.com/2010/03/19/1322981/49ers-women-win-nit-game.htmlThey will keep doing it if we don't call them out on it.
