I was just looking at the schedule and I didn't notice this and nobody up here has brought it up. Why in the heck are we playing in a 2-day/2-game tournament all the way in New Mexico before the Auburn game? Keep in mind that the 29th will be a travel day (jet lag from pacific standard time). That only gives us Monday to prepare and that's a day where they will have classes as well. When will we prepare for the best team on our schedule? Who did that? this is the part of the season where coaches schedule like this to challenge their teams... the gms in nov. & dec. are all part of the plan to get the kids ready for conference play & post season play... when post season tournaments begin... you are playing "x" amount of games on limited amount of rest... nov. & dec. prepares you for that...

The good news is that Auburn is probably coming into the game equally tired.
They just had a two-day tournament themselves this weekend at Florida State.
After getting blown out by Florida State on the first day, they beat FAMU 69-45 in the consolation round. However, they were only up by 4 over FAMU at halftime before pulling away.

Auburn Uses Second-Half Surge To Top Florida A&M, 69-45, At Seminole Classic

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Auburn (4-3) out-scored Florida A&M (3-2) in the second half, extending a four-point halftime lead to a 69-45 victory in the second game of the 2009 Seminole Classic, hosted by Florida State. Auburn senior KeKe Carrier tallied the team's first double-double of the season, scoring 17 points while pulling down 12 rebounds, to lead the Tigers against the Rattlers.
The game was Auburn's second in as many days after its 82-67 loss to host Florida State on Friday. Head coach Nell Fortner said the quick turnaround was a challenge for her team and she was happy about how they responded.
"I was really proud of how we bounced back from yesterday on a short turnaround," said Fortner. "That was a real physical, tiring ballgame last night and we came back very focused today. We knew the first half would be tough and tight, but I'm proud of how we started the second half and pulled away from them."
Auburn struggled from the field in the first half, knocking down only 12 of 30 attempts for 40.0 per cent. Carrier led the Tigers with 11 points, shooting 5-of-8 from the field.
Auburn scored the first 10 points of the game and extended it to a 14-point lead at 22-8 with 10:53 left to play in the opening period. Florida A&M rallied back to cut it to two in the final minute, but a Pascale West jumper with 25 seconds left game Auburn the 31-27 lead at halftime.
All nine Tigers scored in the game, led by Carrier and Smalley with 17 points each. Freshman Nicolle Thomas, fresh off last night's 27-point performance, added 10 points and three steals.
Auburn shot just 36.1 percent from the field in the game, connecting on 22 of 61 shot attempts. The Tigers also hit 54.3 percent from the charity stripe, making good on 19-of-35 attempts. "You knew it was going to be a tough day because their legs were tired from yesterday and that effects your shot," said Fortner. "I thought we got a lot of good work in offensively on some things we needed to work on and got some good playing time for some kids, so it was a good day."
Jordan Greenleaf finished second on the team in rebounding, pulling down nine behind Carrier's 12. Along with the double-double, the eighth of Carrier's career, she also added a team-high three blocks.
"KeKe was a real big presence, she came back and stepped up in a big way," said Fortner. "We need her to do that all the time, we are looking for consistency from her to really embrace her role on this team and bring it every night."
Deidra Jones led Florida A&M with 16 points while Antonia Bennett and Christian Rateree added seven points each. Qiana Donald posted a team-high 12 rebounds.
The Tigers held the Rattlers to 26.9 shooting in the game and only six field goals in the second half. Auburn also out-rebounded Florida A&M, 56-42.
Auburn will remain on the road as the Tigers travel to Greensboro, N.C. to take on North Carolina A&T. The game is set for a 6 p.m. CT tipoff on Tuesday, Dec. 1 from the Corbett Sports Complex.

Oct. 30, 2009BIRMINGHAM - The Auburn women's basketball team was picked to finish eighth in the SEC in the league's preseason coaches' poll, the Southeastern Conference announced Thursday. Junior guard Alli Smalley, the lone returning starter from last year's team, was named to the Preseason All-SEC Second Team. "Of all the Auburn teams I have coached, this one has the most energy and hunger, and they are ready to get out there to defend their SEC title this season," said Auburn head coach Nell Fortner. "We have an unknown group of players, but they are a tremendous group of athletes that I am excited to have the opportunity to coach." Tennessee was tabbed as the preseason favorite, picking up 112 points to beat out LSU (111) by one point. Mississippi State followed in third with 100 points, followed by Georgia with 91 and Vanderbilt with 86. South Carolina rounded out the top half of the league with 56 points, followed by Florida in seventh (55) and Auburn in eighth (51). Rounding out the league was Arkansas (49), Ole Miss (39), Kentucky (27) and Alabama (13). Points were compiled on a 11-10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1 basis for order of prediction, while each player received two points for a first-team vote and one point for a second-team vote. Ties were not broken and coaches were not allowed to vote for their own team or players. Smalley, a native of Arab, Ala., was the lone Tiger to appear on the preseason All-SEC team. She led the team in 3-point shooting last season, connecting on 68-of-171 for a 39.8 percentage. She averaged 11.1 points per game, ranking fourth on the team. The Tigers are set to open their season with an exhibition game against Georgia State College and University at 2 p.m., Nov. 8 in the Beard-Eaves-Memorial Coliseum. The regular season is slated to open on Nov. 13 as the Tigers take on in-state rival Troy at 6 p.m. Season ticket individual packages are $50, while the family plan, which includes four tickets, is $150. Regular season-single game tickets are $5 and Auburn students are allowed in for free. Groups of 20 or more can purchase in advance for a discounted price of $2 per ticket. Help head coach Patricia Cage-Bibbs and the Aggies against SEC powerhouse Auburn. The more Aggies in the house, the harder it will be for the Auburn Tigers to function.
AGGIE GAME NOTES
WHAT TO LOOK FOR: Tonight will be a matchup of two teams still looking for their identity after losing significant amounts of offense from their respective 2008-09 teams. The Tigers are shooting 41 percent on the season and averaging 66.0 points per game. A year ago, the Tigers shot 47 percent from the field while averaging 76.5 points per game. But the Tigers lost DeWanna Bonner to the WNBA. Meanwhile, the Aggies are averaging 66.0 points per game while shooting 40 percent from the floor. The 2008-09 Aggies shot 44 percent from the floor and averaged 76.5 points per game. But with Amber Bland and Brittanie Taylor-James gone, like the Tigers, the Aggies are using November and December to see what works for them in 2009-10.
HEATING UP: Freshman JaQuayla Berry has scored in double figures in her last two games on 10-for-24 shooting. Berry also earned her first career start against Yale on Saturday because Jaleesa Sams was out with an injury. It’s a definite plus if head coach Patriica Cage-Bibbs has found scorer who comes off the Aggies bench.
NOT THIS TIME: N.C. A&T’s Ta’Wuana “Tweet” Cook and Auburn’s Alli Smalley scored seven and six points respectively in last season’s game at Beard-Eaves-Memorial Coliseum. There is a good chance that will not be the case this season. Both ladies lead their respective teams in scoring. Cook has missed the Aggies last two games with a back injury, but in the Aggies first three games she is 12-for-26 from 3-point range. Smalley has led the Tigers in scoring five times in seven games.
IN THE PAINT: The matchup of N.C. A&T’s Lamona Smalley and Auburn’s Jordan Greenleaf should be a fun one. Both players bring a lot to the table for their respective teams. Smalley is a scorer, rebounder and she is not a bad passer either. Greenleaf can also pass out of the post well and she leads the Tigers in rebounding at 7.0 per game. But while Greenleaf shoots less than 30 percent from the floor, Smalley is off to a red hot start. She is shooting 65.5 percent from the floor, while leading the Aggies in rebounding.
RECORD-BREAKING WATCH: Ta’Wuana Cook needs just three assists tonight to become the Aggies all-time leader. Cook comes into tonight’s game with 330 career assists. The Aggies all-time leader, Shareka Glover, finished her career 332 assists. Cook is a former MEAC Rookie of the Year and a two-time second-team All-MEAC performer.

Who did that? i see your point but the scheduling is not too bad on the girls. they had plenty of time to rest while traveling back to greensboro on the 29th. then on the 30th, my guess is that bibbs will only put them through a walkthrough and shoot around. no need to put them through a full blown workout the day before a game, especially having just played two consecutive games the previous two days ago. complete rest on the 29th and a walkthrough on the 30th (which is also basically complete rest) ensures the girls will have fresh legs on december 1 against auburn. so its not as stressful as it seems. plus, unlike football, it doesn't take long to incorporate a basketball game plan. you're not gonna install anything new for an early season game against a non-conference opponent. with two days of rest, a little film study, a walkthrough, and a shoot around, is plenty in preparation to play auburn. there's no reason our ladies shouldn't have fresh legs against auburn. in college basketball, early season games are intended to prepare your team for conference play. its about developing chemistry, installing and executing your system. i don't think bibbs or any other coach spends more than two days game planning for one single opponent. most coaches build an overall team system that's designed to handle any style of basketball. when its time to game plan, you pick the offenses, defenses, and special plays already in your system that would be most effective against your opponent. throw in a personnel scouting report or two, and tweak your game plan accordingly...

Goliath wins 76-63.
The Pound Puppies all played great though.
Berry is gonna be the next BTJ. Gorham is the next Smalley. And Calvin will likely go down as the best point guard in A&T history when it is all said and done.
We just could not find an answer to Auburn's low post monsters. They had one girl who had to be 6-8 and had soft hands and great passing skills. She was the female version of Shaq in his prime.

I left the game puzzled.
We should have won this game. The big girl was a beast but outside of that, I'd argue that we were better at EVERY OTHER FREAKING POSITION. At times, we had Tweet, Sams, AND Mona sitting on the bench at the same time!!! That's freaking crazy. I don't know if you noticed, but we played no man at all tonight. Those girls were killing our zone.
The better team lost tonight.

You've got to remember that Tweet and Sams were both coming off back injuries and it looked like neither of them were really 100 percent. Neither of them played against Yale and neither of them practiced on Monday. Sams especially did not appear to be in great condition running up and down the court and getting back on defense.
I wish I shared your optimism, but I don't think you can understate Auburn's advantage in the low post. That big girl was just setting up shop in the lane (would have been nice if we got a 3 seconds call) and scoring at will. Gorham couldn't do anything with her and neither could Smalley. The girl had soft hands, a nice drop step and even shot well at the foul line. Bibbs even tried to play Coulter for a short stint but she was ineffective against Goliath as well.
If we would have played man to man, I think Auburn would have spread it out and beat us by 40. We made a run in the second half with the big girl on the bench and pulled within five. The crowd was going bananas at that point. Then they put the big girl back in and proceeded to go on a 13-0 run to put the game away for good.
I think attendance was over 2,000 but then again I was at the million man march in 95 and thought it was over 2 million and the official count was something like 400,000. I need to see what the official box says but most of the lower bowl was full and all of people start sitting in the top section by hafltime.
Overall, it was a great night for Lady Aggies basketball. Tweet broke the alltime assists record and our freshman trio should they are all gonna be great ones.
I wouldn't mind taking another shot at Auburn against next year when we have the 6-3 center from Oregon State eligible and maybe another incoming 6-3 post player (keep your fingers crossed).

I thought the attendance was absolutely great. It appears that Bibbs has some outstanding new talent to play with Smalley and Tweet. Three players were in civies on the bench. Auburn's 6-7 and 6-8 post players killed the team inside. I though that A&T should have attached the big people to see if they could get them in a bit of foul trouble. Without the big people, the other team members didn't appear to be all that talented.

I was thinking the same thing, Sixites. The only way we were going to stop the 6-8 girl was to get her to commit fouls on the opposite end. However, every time in the first half when Gorham and Smalley put a shot up that big girl would just swat it back and the ref didn't call anything.
When that 6-8 girl finally went to bench, I breathed I sigh of relief .... until I saw that an athletic 6-7 girl was coming in to replace her. We just didn't have anything to match up with that.
