Dear MEAC Please take advantage of the A&T/ WSSU game on 2/21 in G'boro. It will sell out. The buzz for the upcoming tourney is badly needed. Please send a heavyweight artist for a halftime hello & a FREE show that night. Maybe a small Kids Zone could be set up in Moore Gym During part the Womens/ Mens games on that day. ======== The CIAA is that next weekend, so this is our last chance to target the fans & the triad. ======== PS...A&T please show them how to do it, as the Kids Zone during homecoming (at the old stadium) was great. ======== BTW, I sent an email to the Director of Marketing and Corporate Partnerships for the League.

I have tickets to the CIAA Tournament (nice ones with the hospitality room & shows if anyone is interested) but right now it is unlikely that I will go. I wonder if there will be a decrease in attendance this year to the "CI"?
I feel that the MEAC tournament will not surpass last year's attendance unless both A&T teams, men and women team, are in the championship games. The bad economy will affect the attendance. Few people will make that sacrifice of vacation money just for basketball games. MEAC has yet to put together a compelling entertainment package.

When will the Head Office realize that its gonna take more than basketball to make the MEAC tourney anywhere near a household name as the CIAA...on top of that, they pick winston with basically nothing to do in terms of events and nightlife as the host city. You just can't put on a dry tourney in an even dryer city and expect success..

Who the hell is Ledisi and how are they considered a "celebrity"?
You are just not trying hard enough if you can't get any bigger names than that.

Ledisi Anibade Young (pronounced /ˈlɛdɨsiː/) is a Grammy-nominated R&B singer-songwriter from New Orleans. Her first name means "to bring forth" or "to come here" in Yoruba. Ledisi is known for her jazz influenced vocals. She is often compared to Ella Fitzgerald and is known for her scat style of singing. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ledisiwww.ledisi.com/

I got one of Ledisi's albums. Great music, in the Neo-Soul genre.
Neo-Soul and huge buzz usually aren't mentioned in the same sentence.

it was a horrible dumb ego motivated decision to leave raleigh. the tourney had grown every year in raleigh and had substantial momentum coming off of last year's exciting competition. out of towners had finally learned their way around raleigh and were comfortable with the hotels there. virtually all of the men's games last year went down to the wire and the a&t/coppin women's championship game was a nail biter too. no way the tourney games this year will be more exciting than last year. i think almost all of the men's games had less than a 10 point margin of victory last year.
yet, after all of that excitement, our leadership moves the tourney to winston salem of all places! if it couldn't be kept in raleigh, i'd rather it be in norfolk than winston. yep, for the first time in about 3 years, i think the meac tourney will see a drop in attendance...

What are you talking about? What other deals were on the table? Raleigh announced before the tourney that they wanted no parts of a new contract with the MEAC.

It was on the front page of THE NEWS & OBSERVER . MEAC...THE RBC CENTER doesn't want you back......!!!! Matter of fact the MEAC wanted to sign up for another 2 year deal to have it in Ral, the Mayor was down for it, everything looked good, but the RBC folks had a closed door meeting and everything changed. The bad part is the MEAC boss (Thomas) didn't know about the change until he got a fax from the RBC folks..(no call or e-mail) FAX..........!

Norfolk wanted the tournament really bad this year, but the only state-of-the-art arena we have is the Constant Center at ODU and Norfolk wasn't gonna pay the rent with The Scope sitting right downtown. Hopefully Norfolk will bid again at the end of the Winston-Salem contract. By that time the new light rail system should be running and all the construction downtown will be completed.
