can someone please tell me our strategy for recruiting? i know several freshman and sophmores in nc who have rec'd letters from mid major and major programs....what will it hurt for us to send out a few letters to let kids know that we know they exist?....now all a letter means is that we are looking at you and following your progress...a lot of it is hit or miss....does that 5-10 point guard that is 5-10 at 14 or 15 grow to 6-2, or does he stop growing at 5-11....if he's 6-2 he's a potential high major...if he's 5-11, he's low major or DII....just like the big schools hope he makes it to 6-2, we should be happy if he doesnt and then we have a player...am i over simplifying it..if i am, someone please let me know..

Who on this thread seen the Moorman kid play?
I'll admit, my thoughts on him are only based on his numbers and the accolades he received his senior year, which says to me that he's a very good player.

I think he was a decent signing based on stats and if he's really 6-6". It still bothers me that not even a D-II school offered this kid a scholly. There must be something we're missing. Majors, mid-majors and D-II's don't pass up this kind of talent. Does he have an arrest record or something?

Hopefully he does not have an arrest record. I know it's hard to beleive that a good ball player would consider A&T but a lot of these kids and their families have heard about A&T and want to attend here for whatever reasons. Once they visit some of them fall in love with the campus, not to mention the great fan participation in Corbett. Whatever it takes!!!!!!

It's not hard to beleive a good kid would sign with us. What's hard for me to beleive is that we're the only D-I or D-II school that offered this kid. Not even offered the opportunity to walk-on with anyone! It's just doesn't make sense.

Decks, Moorman is an allstate basketball player. If you want to know everything about his background then hire a private investigator but it seems as if you are trying to put a blight on a person about whom you don't know.
I can understand your doubt but not your continuous public doubt ala this website. Welcome the young man to Aggieland for Pete's sakes.

For real, we are the only one? Damn! He is either a bad character person or he is a diamond way down in the rough. Since we will be spending scholarship money on him lets hope for a plesent surprise.

The main reason kids slip through cracks in basketball is the growing respect that AAU scouts are starting to get. Kids dont get recruited ANYMORE from what they do at their high school. Its all about the BIG AAU showings.
I personally know the guy who runs the "Carolina Invitational" that invites all of NCs best b-ball players. I asked him how come he didn't invite this kid(Josh Davis, 6'3"-4"guard averaging about 20pts) from Athens Drive high school in Raleigh and his response was "i seen him play twice and he didn't warrant in invite from those 2 times". Josh Davis didn't play in "big time" AAU either. So basically you have to show up all the time and show up big. He uses AAU to judge kids because the overall talent level in AAU is better. You have 6-7 studs on one team instead of 1-3 like on most public high school teams. If a kid stands out on a loaded AAU squad then he is considered DIV 1 prospect. So-so, then Mid-major, etc, etc.
This kid didn't perform well with the big boys so he's immediately placed in Mid-major territory. This is probably what happened to Moorman. If you dont play a lot of AAU you can cancel Christmas for going Div1, but there are very good kids out there that dont play a lot of AAU. Those are the ones we must find.
At the Carolina Invintational those guys played like 4-5 games in one day just to be evaluated by this guy, and also to impress any scouts that may have been there.

Jazz please stop it with the drama. I'm not trying to make the kid look bad. I just question why everyone but us passed on him, especially after his showing in the state playoffs. I guess I'll just figure the other 600 schools in D-I and D-II didn't do their homework and we got lucky. AM perhaps you have the best explanation.

How about this. How about it's the usual marginal talent that we've been getting. I mean have you done any research on the guy? It's so little info out there that it's like his stats are classified info. from the pentagon. And you saw his numbers against all state competition. Why is it so hard to say that we should be waving the red flag? I mean, I personally hate small guards, but if you put Marc Hill's name in google, you get stuff. I've also heard that the kid can play from people up there (Marc Hill). No one has heard anything about this Moorman kid. Just like you heard nothing about that 6'9" guy we have now (#50 I think). This coaching staff has shown that they are clueless when it comes to recruiting. And don't forget that every big man that we sign will be at the high post handling the ball. From all I've read, our system doesn't even suit the kid. RED FLAG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, ahhhbigboy, I googled Moorman's name and what I read were some good things about him. I think Aggiemonster is point w/his assessment. Y'all can "red flag" all you want, but I think folks who did the all state team in Ky. probably saw Moorman more than any of us. He may be a dud, but he may also turn out to be a stud, like any kid makin the transition from high school to college.
Hey Decks, remember Scottie Pippin? How many d-1, d2 schools offered him a deal? Aggiemonster said it, ballers slip through the cracks all the time.

until our athletic budget is "at least" on par with 3 quarters of the meac, you can't expect a&t to attract top talent. we give the man peanuts to recruit with and a corbett center that still needs more renovations, yet we expect him to sign top recruits? why do you think he keeps recruiting in his home state of kentucky? with the budget we have, it takes "extraordinary" coaches like bill hayes and patricia bibbs to win championships at a&t and it shouldn't be that way. we always have to have coaches that can do more with less. unfortunately those kind of coaches are hard to find and even harder to keep. give eaves hampton's budget and convocation center, and he'll deliver top talent and championship contenders…

"The picture you've painted has made me ill. Here's a couple of questions and a comment to follow. What have we caught? What do you need all that money for? Where is MSU's and CSU's budget? They were in the tourney final. What is Bibbs' budget? Did she need that money to get ballers? This type of reasoning makes me sick. Did Memphis' budget need to be on par with UNC's, Florida's, UK's, Kansas' to make it to the national championship? So many of you set the bar so low because of a darn budget. Give me a break. I don't know this, but was Capel's budget larger than everyone else's and is that why he won? How about Corbett? How about Thomas' for that matter? You guys sound like the project kid that swears he can't make it because he wasn't born with a silver spoon. Get past that self-pity mentality and raise the bar. "
