FCS college football programs, especially underfunded HBCU programs should enhance their promotional efforts beyond the alumni base to broaden their appeal, increase visibility and ramp up the fan energy. By reaching out to the general public, local communities, and sports enthusiasts, these programs can cultivate a larger, more diverse fan base, which can lead to higher game attendance, increased revenue through ticket sales, merchandise, and sponsorships as well a less jaded audience. Engaging local communities fosters a sense of pride and support, turning casual spectators into loyal fans. Additionally, expanded outreach can attract media coverage, providing valuable exposure that can elevate the program's profile and attract higher-caliber recruits as well as a more enthusiastic fan base. Promoting the unique stories and talents within A&T football can also highlight the distinctiveness and excitement of Aggie football, distinguishing it from the more mainstream FBS games. Ultimately, broadening promotional efforts ensures the long-term sustainability and growth of A&T's athletic programs, enriching the University's football landscape.

So much to say here: 1. Our (Black) culture is a DIFFERENT culture concerning game participation by fans...same thing in other sports (Basketball, etc.). Seems we're more of an "Excite me." culture. 2. The 1-10 season hasn't been the only season where fan participation is pretty inept...virtually every season. 3. The kids are right. We need to do more. I hate it when I see them trying to get the crowd to make noise. 4. Our gameday environment is pretty slow/boring. The school up I-85 has us beat there. Joseph does a great job but I believe more can be done. 5. Seems MANY of our fans don't know "Cheering Rules"...be quiet when we have the ball and make noise when the other team has the ball (during the time before a play is run), as a start. 6. We need timeout activities...races, FG kicks for prizes, etc. 7. More nostalgic things (chants, situational music, etc.) need to be done. 8. Etc. #4 is huge. I think we can do more. At basketball games Joseph will prompt the fans to chant defense. He can feel the energy or lack of energy in Corbett. We have to do a better job of cueing fans to game situations.

I think what's being discussed is that crowd in the 11-15K range. Those can really be dead at not just A&T, but HBCU games in general. I think this is another example of thinking that PWC ice is colder. How many FCS teams in general have crowds that are engaged when the stadium is half empty and the football action on the field is subpar? Surely none of the teams in the Big South. Outside of Delaware, none of the teams in the CAA had a great home field advantage either.

Breaking news: mankind just invented a new thing called video streaming that allows you to watch college football games without actually being there.

I watched that whole podcast and I will say. Their biggest issue is with their own student body than the alumni when it comes to fan engagement.
And it's been something that was occurring before we started jumping conferences...

I have been to games in the swac and other conferences in the Deep South both black and white and I can tell you the energy is far more different and exciting than the energy that we are seeing in the Southeast and North. These venues are a lot smaller and some are much bigger but you can feel the energy when you walk in the stadium from the fan base. Also if you want a 12th man atmosphere you have to make a 12th man atmosphere.

It was the 1st point in my post 7/11/2024 at 11:32 AM. With that understanding I believe we can still do some things to get more involvement. My bad, I'm late to the thread and reading 5 pages thoroughly was not in the plans. You win that one. But to be honest, you had too many points. Its simply your first one. Aside from winning more, the rest fall under Black Culture. Side note - Why do black people all of a sudden know the assignment at their favorite NFL team's game?? Nah. Some of the items are things to attempt transcending Black Culture. Agree that others fall under Black Culture. I tend to want to provide details sometimes.

We actually have the crowd numbers for most games. We are always top of FCS in attendance. We just have to get people to engage more and have better seating for games. If those PWI's had our numbers their home field advantage would be better. Tell me PWIs with our same attendance numbers dont have better home field advantage?

Really like the seating chart types. Do we have an automated ticketing system? Otherwise, this will be a mess to manage. It is automated. Its a third party system that can handle anything. Your stadium just has to be setup properly with actual seating charts. They do it for reserve tickets and tailgating, so all they have to do is put rows and numbers on the entire stadium.

First and foremost, one that comes to a game must WANT to cheer is he/she is going to do so. It doesn't make them less than anyone else that paid their monies to come to the games. We can all hope the fans can and will do better but, that's about it. I'll be the first to encourage fan engagement but, at the same time I cannot be bothered when our product is not up to par. In the end, Oleschool said it best, we have to fix the product on the field before you can speak about any of that as a player.

The podcast comments about the WBB WNIT games which they attended were interesting. They also have to remember it's the post-season. The women's regular season games were not attended well
