I would not blame this on Covid. Men's basketball program has less scholarships to offer than that of WBB (12 or 13 vs 15). This means MBB has less room for error. Transfers and new HS recruits can greatly impact your APR. 2022-23 academic year may have been the worst year in MBB school history for the highest number of Freshmen and transfers. You all remember your 1st semester or year in college. The adjustment can be tough for some. If Coach Ross has properly addressed this issue, then next academic year these players (now one year older) will have GPAs that will cancel out a few low freshmen GPAs if they occur. Bottom line is that I am not too surprised even though I hate that we fell below standards. 22-23 was the the issue, it was previous years. single season APR 22-23 = 939 (Shumper/Ross) 21-22 = 920 (Jones) 20-21 = 917 (Jones) 18-19 = 923 (Jones) 17-18 = 979 My mistake.

What year was it where we had the one guy get arrested for being a drug mule and Coach Joyner got fired for assaulting a player or something?
After a while, all of that dysfunction becomes a blur.

Willie Jones was announced as the 11th head men's basketball coach at North Carolina A&T in the modern NCAA era (1952-present) on June 19, 2020. He previously served as the Aggies acting head coach starting on Dec. 24, 2019.

So it appears that 2018-2019 is when the wheels began to fall off.
Koach Jones was Joyner's top assistant and Earl just decided to bump him up to the top job when he fired Joyner. Same with Shumpert, who got bumped up when Earl fired Jones right before the season.
Actually, I think Joyner was originally Cy Alexander's top assistant and just got bumped up when Alexander was forced into early retirement during the season.
I guess all those band-aid solutions did not serve the program well, in hindsight.

Why did Florida A&M MBB not receive a penalty?

Why did Florida A&M MBB not receive a penalty? Probably their 22/23 number was high enough to give them a 940 average the two most recent years counted.

Reading the article posted by Agg E Pride their Multi-year rate is 927. I thought this was a 2 year average. Maybe I am not interpreting the table correctly.

So schools have to have either a 5-year average of 930 or a 2-year average of 940 or higher. I also think 23/24 will have new guidelines for Transfers to accommodate the Transfer Portal.

Why did Florida A&M MBB not receive a penalty? First, I want to understand why their football program didn't get penalized.

It probably won't show up until the next cycle. The cycle that is scored has always been a year behind the one you're currently in or ended.

It sounds like you have to keep your players eligible. Also with students that are not going to yon the team, we should help them transfer to another college.
We can't just show the kids the door without helping them. It's the right thing to do and it helps our APR.
