A side note on hosting WNIT games: Since the WNIT is a for-profit tournament, all games are played on the site of the higher bidding team. The national championship game is currently carried on CBS Sports Network. Teams can host in the first round for a guarantee of $6,500 a game and in the second round for $7,500 a game. We've made the strategic decision to invest in our program by giving our WBB team its best chance to advance in postseason play in the most advantageous setting possible. Our attendance and the electric game atmosphere that has been generated for these first two games has been nothing short of phenomenal. It's proving out to be brilliant move on the part of Earl Hilton and the administration in general. It also gives our players more time for classes and studying. Cuts down on the time away from campus.

They came and they played their game,” Milton-Jones said of the Aggies. “They played like a team that already had a game under their belt. We played like a team that had a lot of rust and was still trying to figure some things out. www.pilotonline.com/2024/03/25/north-carolina-at-women-score-in-final-seconds-to-end-odus-season-in-wnit/“It’s tough, but it shouldn’t have come down to a last-second bucket,” Old Dominion coach DeLisha Milton-Jones said. “We had 39 minutes and 59 seconds of play to come away with a convincing win. We just fell short in so many ways.” She really feels like they are better than us. I'm sure she did...but she can think what she wants...the only thing that matters is the scoreboard. How many times have we as HBCU fans felt our teams were "better" only to come up with the "L". Our team did exactly what we have to learn to do...win in the post season. Let them make the excuses on why they came up short. There were a lot of tough games we had to learn from during the season to get the backbone to advance to the "Sweet 16".

Undoubtedly it prepared us for the Post season tournament. I haven't thought HBCU teams were better. Thank you CAA for the close games.

This is just coaches talk after they have lost a close game that was winnable. Coach Rob would have said the same thing. Old Dominion had several close games in their conference play that prepared them for postseason tournament similar to us.
My take is that both teams did not play their best. This is based on schedule results that show this is the lowest scoring game that either team played in all season. Either team could have won this game due to poor execution by both teams. Neither team could buy a basket for the last 3 minutes of the game. Thank God Bracone made that 3pt shot.
Both teams had 22 turnovers. Both teams had 13 steals. We shot 17% and they shot 26% from 3PT. We shot 35% and they shot 32% from FG%. FT percentages were bad.
Let's take the win and hope we play much better our next game to move on to the next round. 🙏

We are bigger but we don't really play big in terms of finishing in and around the cup. Both teams have lots of talent but are turnover prone. The defense from both was outstanding.

Or the offensive execution was bad. I am with you. Let's be happy for the win.

Chhhhhhiiiitttt...I'm not even trying to dig into things that deeply, because it doesn't matter. I know who won ! We so used to losing, especially in the post season many of our fans (and HBCU fans in general) want to look for the moral victory...or say we won "attendance". Well damn it, we won both. Those ladies (and coaching staff) went toe to toe with every team in the CAA and kicked some azz this season. Yeah, they came up short in some big games...but they learned from their mistakes. They took those experiences into the WNIT and knocked off teams with similar records from similar conferences. Are we really about to host a third game in a NCAA sanctioned post season tournament? We need to talk about how big a factor that is playing in the teams success as well. Why is this happening? Is this a one off, or a mindset change...someone in the athletic admin made the decision that they wanted to put our ladies on the best possible position to win...then let them handle the rest. We got to keep learning, keep growing, and keep winning.

I believe the biggest reason the score was so low was because both teams are pretty good defensive teams.
As far as whether which team is the better team, we had 3 common opponents (Elon, Delaware and Bill & Mary) and the results were similar.
As a result, I believe we're very similar teams.

I asked this in the UNCG thread and only got one +1.
So I'm gonna ask again:
How many +1s should Hilton get for us hosting not 1, not 2, but THREE WNIT games?

If we market to the students on campus this week, the game Friday night might set an all-time attendance record in Corbett.

Got to give him credit when it's due...and his department was all over this. In my opinion our home court advantage is a major reason for some close wins against similarly matched competition. That's not to take anything away from the ladies or the coaching staff...I'm just saying that if we had to travel the outcomes may have been different. I'm glad the games were on our campus...and to have three in a row, man...that's big.

I'm wondering whether there will be a similar turnout/ attendance since Friday is a holiday (Easter weekend)
