Sometimes when you have less players available to play it is simpler to coach and get comfortable as a player due to extended minutes. As a coach when you are trying to keep too many players happy (afraid of transfer or not a big separation in talent or skill) you can dilute how well your team can actually compete. Managing minutes versus keeping the best players out on the floor at the right moment. Also, a player getting more time maybe more relax knowing they won't get sent to the bench if they make 1 or 2 mistakes.
I am not saying that is what happened here, just saying. The good news is that they showed up and played very well under the circumstances.

Others are that: - Campbell may have been over-confident with Glasper and Murphy out. - Our team may have played harder knowing Glasper and Murphy were out. Who knows what really happened.

Hamilton was out due to participating in New Member Presentation on Saturday morning (KAPsi). I was under the impression that they moved it so some of the participants could honor Saturday commitments elsewhere. I know he could have gotten transporatation down to Buies Creek in time for the game.

That’s major commitment and a major accomplishment for him. Congratulations.

Hold on. A player on the team missed a regular season game just so he could pledge a fraternity?
Please tell me you are joking.

Those that have joined these organizations have become great leaders on their teams. The more the merrier, I say. Lastly, Isn't Coach Ross a Kappa?

.......... missed a regular season game ............. I'm with you on this Thilla. Your loyalty is to the institution that's paying your bills not to your fraternal Association

.......... missed a regular season game ............. I'm pretty confident Coach Ross signed off on this. It's pretty cool to see a Head Coach be okay with this, especially knowing that the time commitment here is crazy. This could end up being a pretty nifty recruiting chip - a coach that is cool with their players getting involved in student life, even if it means they miss a game.

That is insane. We are talking about a NCAA Division One basketball program. This is not some club sport at a community college.
The nifty recruiting strategy would be to recruit basketball players whose main focus is to win basketball games.

This is interesting. Actually, today is my QUEversary and one of my LBs balls for Bill & Mary and there was the potential of a conflict regarding our Read In vs a "spring" activity. My HONCHO stated there is no way in hell he was going to miss it for the Fraternity and this was AFTER months of joy. Fortunately, London worked some things out and it became a non-issue. My point is my LB felt strongly about a practice or team meeting, not a game. His point was he's a scholarship athlete and his education and football took precedent over the Fraternity. We all supported him on his decision. I am a little baffled that he missed a game essentially for a probate.

This is a fascinating comment, especially with all of the potentiality of NCAA members being forced to classify student-athletes as employees. If and when this becomes law of our land, I would not be surprised to see many programs, including ours, to become club sports with time commitments for practices and games greatly reduced. For all we know, Coach Ross could be simply ahead of the curve on this. And it's amazing how with this absence and the injuries we had that we almost beat Campbell.

I get what you're saying on one hand ,but it's not like we are are in contention for winning anything in MBB this year .

You can't build team continuity and camaraderie with actions such as this.

If the coach does not have an issue with it then no big deal under the circumstances that we are not in the running for any championship or titles. Now if this turns into a habit then I will form an opinion that Coach Ross is not the right man for the job. You must have an extremely good reason to miss games in my opinion.
People place different weight of importance or value on certain things. I once disagreed with my cousin who is the HC of my high school basketball team about why he was ok with a player missing an important bball game. This kid was our best bball player, but he had scheduled a football recruiting trip on the day that we played our biggest rival who was ranked in the top 5 in the state. We were ranked #1 in the state at the time, playing an away game, and riding a 78 game winning streak (state record). My cousin, the HC, told the kid to don't worry about it go on your trip. We lost the game by one or 2 points. The streak ended, but we won the state championship that year.
So who was right? My cousin or me. The kid played college football and went on to play in the NFL for more than 10 years I believe.
I still tell my cousin that I disagree with him to this day, but guess what? He is the coach and he had his reasons for making the decision that he did. He felt that he had other kids that would step up to the occasion. He is at practice with those kids everyday.
