RICHMOND, Va. (Jan. 15, 2024) – North Carolina A&T and Hampton traded baskets down the stretch – including a pair of lead changes in the final seven seconds – with Camian Shell’s floater with 1.4 seconds remaining winning the game for the Aggies, 81-80, on CBS Sports Network. North Carolina A&T 81, Hampton 80 Camian Shell and North Carolina A&T had the final say on a game-winner with 1.4 seconds remaining to win a wild Monday night contest against Hampton. A game with 12 ties and 11 lead changes reached its crescendo in the closing seconds with Hampton’s Jordan Nesbitt draining a jumper at one end and Shell speeding to the other end of the floor for his game-winning floater that sent North Carolina A&T (4-13, 2-2) to victory in the series between long-time foes. N.C. A&T built a lead as large as 11 in the first half, but Hampton (4-13, 0-5) rattled off a 12-0 run to move in front 33-30 with 3:44 to go before halftime. The teams would go back and forth in a first half with six lead changes and three ties before Landon Glasper drilled a three-pointer with four seconds before halftime to pull the teams even at 42 at the break. Hampton led 73-69 on a Jerry Deng layup with 3:15 to play, but Glasper scored the next five to put A&T in front and neither team led by more than two the rest of the way. Deng answered Glasper’s three with one of his own and Shell and Nesbitt traded layups before Glasper hit another three off an inbound play set up by an offensive rebound to make it 79-78 Aggies with 34 seconds remaining. Nesbitt’s jumper late in the shot clock was answered by Shell’s floater that proved to be the game-winning basket. Glasper led all scorers with 24 points, while Shell added 19. Deng and Nesbitt had 17 each for Hampton. The teams combined to make 11 of 12 field goals over the final four minutes. With Monday’s result, nine teams – Campbell, Delaware, Monmouth, North Carolina A&T, UNCW, Northeastern, Stony Brook, Towson, and William & Mary – are tied for third in the CAA standings at 2-2. caasports.com/news/2024/1/15/mens-basketball-caahoops-mbb-recap-jan-15-north-carolina-a-t-hits-game-winner-with-1-4-seconds-remaining-to-beat-hampton.aspx

What should viewers have expected from a Major Network? After all, CBS must protect their image and brand with quality productions.

I only watched the last 7 seconds of the highlights. Shell was prepared and knew what to do, drive the to the lane and take a shot when under 5 seconds remain. I like this coach. The team has surpassed the number of wins I expected. Looking at the CAA records they are all bad except Drexel and CoC. 6 more wins is a miracle!

This week in Corbett should be crazy, finally as the students come back.
Give me two Guards that Ball, and you have a chance to win.

This team is well coached. You can tell Ross is a seasoned coach, as I saw him set his players up for success to win this game. He called a crucial time out as Hampton went up by 3 and we came back and scored a quick 2. He saw the crowd getting hype and momentum creeping and he killed it with that time out with like 2 minutes to go right after we scored. Most other coaches would have let play go on as we were only down by 1, but I thought that was smart because it composed the team for the last two minutes.
That was a great win on national TV on the road in a hostile environment. Hampton was chirping all game, especially Nesbitt who scored the would be game winner for Hampton. The looks on the entire arena when Shell came back quickly to score the game winning basket was priceless.

The bigs.....Murphy and Chitikoudis.....they are what make us formidable. Much props to Shell for the G-W bucket and Glasper for shooting us and keeping us in the game. Although they need to bulk up, the presence of both Murphy and Chitikoudis is what makes us CAA respectable.

I neglected to mention this as soon as the game was over, but CHITIKOUDIS was the Unsung Hero of last night’s win, IMHO. He scored well, hit the boards and set a bunch of great picks…a key one being with 41 seconds left to free Glasper for a 3 that gave us a brief late lead.

If there was one game this season we could have hoped to have on national TV, last night was probably it.
This was an exciting contest and made us look like a well-coached mid-major program to the entire country.

Great drives and even better defensive hustle plays. There were not a lot of turnovers either.
