What that says to me from the outside looking in is that the swac folks wished they could have directed bands that concentrated on the things our band does, but they were prevented from doing so by their fan base. True "bandheads" like what Dr. Ruff and the BGMM are doing. They like to see entertaining shows with great musicianship. True SWAC fans don't like change and can't understand why the loudest band isn't necessarily the best band.

I saw it live and in person. The criteria for this competition was more than just sound. Sound…JSU had plenty of it but, there were other factors being judged and that was, Auxiliary and Drumline which, clearly A&T was better…wasn’t even close. And it’s not like A&T’s show wasn’t good as well. So, it became a situation of, louder doesn’t make you the winner.
Secondly, SWAC bands tend to struggle in competitions because, it seems difficult for them to think outside the box when it comes to a field show. So, what you saw was the same ole show out of JSU with different music. All SWAC bands do it, they just so happened to get judged to be the best at it this year…it’s normally Southern. So, it tends to get old with no newness.

And oh yeah…they (JSU) can just relax and enjoy the holidays and watch us on New Years Day in Pasadena.

Finally, someone has come close to what I think the judges were looking for in each band's performance. I suspect, unlike Jay Walker, they were judging the show presentation by each band and not how loud they sounded. I assumed that included musicianship, precision marching/dancing with a theme. Once again band, congratulations.

A&T put on a clinic! Hitting 90's with their marching style; percussion and flags on point. Horns and sound are always (mostly) forward facing. Why would JSU do their tiger run run on? This was not a football halftime show. Some members were dropping their legs while doin the slow march. It wasn't close.

this kind of thing is always "subjective". there will always be "controversy" associated with any battle of the bands because declaring the winner is always "subjective". as far as i'm concerned, it is what it is...

Just wait until those scholarships kick in from the increased student activity fees next school year. Imagine a 250-300-piece band and auxiliary by 2025.

It’s subjective to a point…but, when you are judging the percussion and only one band does a percussion feature, what do you do? When you judge auxiliary and JSU dance did a dance routine which was very good but, Golden Delight does a dance routine which was very good ….AND they twirled flags AND they twirled batons, I mean what do you do?
