NIL and culture is how we keep them. Goal should be not to lose them to G5 or FCS teams, we can't stop them from leaving for P4. Truthfully you can't stop them from leaving period for any FCS or above programs if and when they decide to leave. The problem I see with the NIL is programs getting into a bidding war over players, with hbcus at this level are not financially equipped to do. There has to be a start and end level mechanism in our nil approach, even then the athlete may try to test the limits. As for me in my mindset no one or two athletes are worth the headache. I have always been taught where you find one you find another that is why you coach. It's a shame that you coach an athlete up to another level and they decide to transfer somewhere else thinking that they will be better but in the end they are either regulated to the bench as part-time players or if they become starters with hope of going to the Big Show. Only to be overlooked in the draft and signed as free agents, something that they could have achieved by staying just where they were in the first place with better stats going forward 😆 In saying that A&T will keep some and we'll lose some to the TP and recruiting, but the catch is to , upgrade the talent that you have with efficient and effective coaching. Because in my opinion we can win with a Broadway Type approach if you want to phrase it that way..i.e build with your high school and Juco talent and use the portal to plug any major issues. If a player is not plug and play Talent leave then in the TP and rely on your high school and Juco Talent to fill the void that you have. In my opinion. Personally, I believe we have the resources to keep them from transferring to a G5 or FCS program. I read on this board that Tyquan King is getting $500 a month...that is not a lot of money. Let's stop saying "HBCUs" when referring to conversations about A&T. We are a Div 1 school! Let's start thinking like it.

You might have some personal demons about graduating from a HBCU, but the rest of us do not share your torment.
A&T will always be known and celebrated as being a HBCU. Hence the first word in the acronym.
Part of what makes us attractive in this day and age to new students and recruits is our historical background. Where you feel shame, others feel inspired.

2039, I think you have gone too far in this case. How can you not link NC A&T with HBCU? Regardless of which conference we play in, we've been identified as a HBCU for a lot of more years than we've been in non-majority HBCU conferences.

A&T is just like Hampton and Tennessee State University and any other HBCU that aligns themselves within a white conference. Three HBCUS that compete in Division 1 levels conferences . Man Come On Now Really 😒 🙄

I get what you are saying, but I have to say that I disagree. Being an HBCU is part of the core of who and what we are...we shouldn't run from it, we should run to it. Being an HBCU makes us unique among Div 1 school. It's not a negative, but a positive...administrators at NCAT have to learn to operate at the highest levels, and I believe our leaders understand that. We aren't always happy with how they do things, but one of the reasons we are a top HBCU is because our leaders are pushing the school in ways other HBCU leaders don't. As a result we operate in areas other HBCUs don't, and we have a lot to learn...but being the best we can be, and being an HBCU are not mutually exclusive. We can be both. Our rankings, research, applications, and over all growth is proof of that. Athletics will come along, we will get better...this new recruiting environment is hard for all schools, NCAT being an HBCU has nothing to do with how the TP or NIL is impacting the recruiting environment.

We are a school that participates in Div1 athletics that happens to be a HBCU. I refuse to let people say something can not be done because A&T is a HBCU. All HBCUs are not the same, just like all non-HBCUs are not the same. I dont not understand why people want to continually segregate themselves and have small minded thinking.

Our status as an 1890 Land Grant HBCU that produces the highest number of engineering, STEM, and journalism/mass comm graduates annually should be a major recruiting tool, in addition to our NIL Collective, FCOA, Alston Funds, and Campus Life should be great recruiting tools moving forward.
And while we are an HBCU, all HBCUs aren't the same and we are one of the top ones in the land.
