Denton Ryan has an outstanding program. Good pick up . Having lived in Denton County for 16 years Ryan has one of the best teams and coaching staff in Texas. Many of their kids play in the Big 12 as freshman Don't forget Denton Guyer, Braswell, Denton High . All produce outstanding athletes in every sport for the next level .

I keep coming in here, everyday, looking for a commitment from a transfer & experienced DT (6'3 285+) or NT (6'0+ & 300+).

Just a thought....
Have you considered that Brown is actively recruiting these transfer defensive lineman and maybe they can't qualify for the A&T academic standards?
Maybe that is leading him back to HS recruits he knows can qualify and has shown they will be good to great student/athletes....
I'm just saying.....

Or they found the program that serves their best interest. In the end all A&T can do is offer and keep it moving. Look no one likes to hear this and I even hate saying this but. HBCUS are still the second option even in the portal. And it is even more the same when it comes to your upper tier to mid-tier Talent. In the portal hbcus need to have that diamond in the rough eye when it comes to selecting players. I honestly feel that brown is leaving no stone unturned looking for that nose tackle. But finding a good one at this level that is not looking to move to Upper tier FCS or FBS with extensive playing time and experience is highly unlikely. Now there are a number of good division 2 defensive tackles that are in the portal with experience and significant Field Time. But I don't think Brown is going to entertain anything like that. It may be he is still sifting through the rocks to find that one diamond in the rough and if he doesn't find that diamond in the portal he is willing to go with the high school and Juco Talent that we have coming in. I don't blame him I would do the same thing.

It’s also about money! Most of these quality DTs and NTs we would like are also highly valued by teams that have established collectives and are able to slide a player $5,000, $10,000, $20,000 low-level deals.
So not only do they need to fit what we need schematically, they have to be able to be enrolled without losing too many credit hours AND our Pride of A&T Collective must be able to give them the money they or their representatives ask for.
Even those diamond in the rough, D2 players are asking for some coins. But with that being said, don’t let me stop anyone from being hopeful.

As I remember, he built his DL on high school talent with a few transfers sprinkled in....

I really don't care about the in's & out's of getting DTs/NTs, mostly because we don't know what they're doing in their recruiting.
Just hoping we get 1 or more, based on what I think we still need.

Honestly, you should care. We all should honestly, especially in this new era we're in. It's about getting this staff the money they need to recruit. In fact, we need someone to ask him flat out if the new collective is helping or what can we do to allow the collective to assist him better. Just hoping ain't gonna get it done in 2024 with all the holes we have on both sides of the ball.

As I remember, he built his DL on high school talent with a few transfers sprinkled in.... Groove You described exactly how the portal should be used . I'm an adamant believer that we can build a dominant program from high school and Juco Talent and only use the portal as a stopgap measure for PLUG and PLAY TALENTED players depending on the positions of need. A lot of the SWAC schools have been depending heavily on Portal talent , and their records still remain the same. I think Brown understands that and it's only using the portal for a specific type of player of need. The main problem that I worry about is. If some of these high school players step up and show out. Then we are in another predicament because of vultures will come hunting for them, how do we go about keeping them. That is the only thing that worries .

NIL and culture is how we keep them.
Goal should be not to lose them to G5 or FCS teams, we can't stop them from leaving for P4.

NIL and culture is how we keep them. Goal should be not to lose them to G5 or FCS teams, we can't stop them from leaving for P4. Truthfully you can't stop them from leaving period for any FCS or above programs if and when they decide to leave. The problem I see with the NIL is programs getting into a bidding war over players, with hbcus at this level are not financially equipped to do. There has to be a start and end level mechanism in our nil approach, even then the athlete may try to test the limits. As for me in my mindset no one or two athletes are worth the headache. I have always been taught where you find one you find another that is why you coach. It's a shame that you coach an athlete up to another level and they decide to transfer somewhere else thinking that they will be better but in the end they are either regulated to the bench as part-time players or if they become starters with hope of going to the Big Show. Only to be overlooked in the draft and signed as free agents, something that they could have achieved by staying just where they were in the first place with better stats going forward 😆 In saying that A&T will keep some and we'll lose some to the TP and recruiting, but the catch is to , upgrade the talent that you have with efficient and effective coaching. Because in my opinion we can win with a Broadway Type approach if you want to phrase it that way..i.e build with your high school and Juco talent and use the portal to plug any major issues. If a player is not plug and play Talent leave then in the TP and rely on your high school and Juco Talent to fill the void that you have. In my opinion.
