There are Talented players in the portal. The problem is finding the specific type of player you're looking for at a position . Finding good Guards should not be a problem but has you move up into the Big-men category talent becomes much and a little dicey and thin . What Coach Ross or who ever the recruiter is should be focusing on filling needs .In this case another recruiters view of what is needed going forward because A&T only has a coach in Name only . Also Coach Ross maybe has already filled a lot of our needs coming in with him ,that is if he is actually our new head coach . thing is, a lot of guys in the portal do not fit our "profile" relative to their talent level. meaning, a bunch are below our profile (basically d2 quality guys that we don't need), a bunch are above our profile (p5 quality guys who aren't looking at midmajor/lowmajor programs), then there are guys who meet our profile but are only "role players". what's left is nowhere remotely near the number of players you now see listed in the portal. again, the longer a player remains in the portal, the less likely they are desirable players that coaches want. all i'm saying is that the longer you wait, the pickings become "slimmer and slimmer". existing college coaches nor players in the portal are gonna "wait" for a&t to make an announcement before they decide to commit and that's my point. folk act like "everybody" in the portal are "quality players" who can help our program and that's just not true. we need "5 starters", not role players. and at this late in the game, i don't see a coach finding 5 or more "top quality" players in the portal "at our level" who are legit "starters" who are capable of finishing in the top half of the caa. i just don't see it, time will tell... You do realize that we are saying the same things .But too say there is no talented players left in the portal and that most are D2 level talent is too much for a Blanket statement to make . Most teams use the portal as an stop gap measure, to fill positions of need . So it is logical that some players could be in the portal for a while depending on what position they play because there are only so many offers available . But that does not mean that they are not talented . The Top half of the CAA had good play from there Bigs and players that knew there roles. That played and executed in a organized system . What beat A&T wasn't the talent on the other CAA teams ,it was the talent and coaching on A&T's team that always found away to beat themselves . I have never been a fan of the portal. But there is a lot talented players , it all depends on what your looking for and if it's bigs the numbers are slimmer each day A&T as long as we are without a Head Coach for the men's basketball team. |

That is a bit extreme, teaching the 13500 students we have. who says those positions are a priority? Because it’s a priority to posters doesn’t mean it’s a school priority. And all of these posts are truly assumptions since none in this site work in Human Resources or the athletics department. Only Kev works there and he has to quite often correct posters for making inaccurate statements as if they are factual. |

I talked to a counselor the other day who confirmed they are majorly understaffed. Which isn’t good considering the turmoil on campus the last few weeks.
I figure if you can’t get something as simple as hiring a coach right, how you gonna hire five to 10 counselors to serve the student body?
I maintain vastly upgraded policies and procedures regarding efficient hiring is a need that hasn’t been met in eons. The basketball coach isn’t even exhibit A, but the position could and would benefit if the administration unassed itself from its hands and enacted new processes across the board.

I get that we are fans and invested in the sports program at NCA&T, but some of this stuff is ridiculous...I thought it was bad during the process for hiring the football coach, but y'all starting to get to that level as well. Some of y'all sound like you on suicide watch or something. If you don't trust our leadership that's one thing, but damn...the sky is not falling. Our new coach and administration are just as aware of how long it's taking...the need to recruit, challenges we will face in the CAA, <insert any other concerns here> as you are...and they are paid to do this stuff everyday. Imma just wait for the official announcement, and let the new coach answer questions on what direction he wants to take the program. All the speculation on what's wrong and how something bad is going on in the background is just over the top. Why do you think the football hiring process was bad? I don't think it was bad...I'm just making the point that we as Aggie fans and supporters are way over the top sometimes. We just got past some of this stuff with the hiring of the Football coach only to now be all up in arms about the hiring process for the basketball coach. Now I'm beginning to understand why the admin is slow at time when giving us the details. We just can't seem to handle it. We would give into "rumors"..."what I heard"...and "this isn't working the way I think it should". It's one manufactured "crisis" after another. One month it's housing, then it's we can't find a coach...then it's campus safety. When the facts come out or the process is complete we see just how ridiculous some of this stuff was. |
