Thanks to all on replying to my question on backup PG. From "stats" Shell appears to be a good PG for us, but it appeared to be a huge drop-off in distribution when considering other members of the team. I want a solid backup PG that can continue to feed the bigs or shooters when Shell needs rest, get in foul trouble, or is injured. If we get the bigs, yet we can't get them the ball then it is a waste of the bigs talent.
On my wish list I would like 2 good PGs (I already posted that I want bigs 1st followed by 3PT shooters). I don't consider Glasper a true PG for us. He is a scorer with skills to play PG if need be. I pray that one of this year's recruits or an injured player from last year will adequately fill our need for a good backup PG.
Stats say we need one, but it could be misleading because a last season player may not have been given enough game time to prove himself. That is why your input was very much appreciated. Thanks.

I'm not sure about returning Aggie KD running the 1 or playing 2. Ever seen his shot form?

I'm not sure about returning Aggie KD running the 1 or playing 2. Ever seen his shot form? Duke is who I assume you're talking about. Duke can facilitate the ball, set his teammates up to score by going to the best options. He can also effectively shoot the mid-range and from distance if he is in rhythm. In saying that what I have noticed about Duke. He is better at those things when the team is in a motion movement offense and not standing around in a semi motion offense with less movement . Dukes just needs more floor time. People are killing me with this true point guard BS. A true point guard is like a quarterback to a football team, leader facilitator director and score when needed. Kam Langley was a true point guard with his only weakness being his free throw shooting Other than that he checked all the boxes. We have three guards that check the majority of those boxes in one way or the other. In closing the guard position especially the point guard position is not a need on this team.

I personally don't like conversations where the player or fans talk about a player can play multiple positions like that is special. Since basketball has been invented there has historically been many players capable of playing multiple positions. It is rare that a player can play multiple positions equally well which is why a coach starts them at a specific position. Jordan could play PG but he was not one. Same for Kobe and Iverson. Magic could play center but he was not one.
So when "I" refer to "true PG", I am not referring to spot duties. I have no doubt Glasper can play PG for us if asked to do so for a few minutes, but it would serve us better if he stayed at his dominant position and we brought in a player off the bench for Shell that is more comfortable and better at playing PG. That is what I call real depth. Similar argument for football. Someone will say we have a player that can play QB, WR, or RB because he is so talented.
I understand necessity or emergency situations. Again, finding a good backup PG (whether currently on the team or not) is third on the recruiting list for me after Bigs and 3PT shooters. We dealt with kids last year trying to play center out of position that did not work well, yet I am pretty sure the players or fans argued we have played that can play center if asked. That is not the position we should strive to be in. Try your best to recruit players that play these positions as their normal or dominant preference.
I don't know what we have so I am not criticizing our players or coaches. This is just my philosophy in building a team. Of course, you make do with what you have after the season starts.

Milton Matthew's played here, at A&T around 2020 / 2021 season. I don't remember him getting a lot of playing time here.

He was billed as a PG County 3 point sharp shooter. He couldn't hit the backside of a barn during the games, but coach kept giving him opportunities to shoot.

I'm not understanding what the point of the last year was for this guy... Chasing NIL $, it seems to me..... plus he was hoping he could shine at a high major school. If you did well in the G-league, would you shy away from the opportunity to play in the NBA? If you then failed, would you later turn down the opportunity to play overseas or back in the G-league. Simply a young man's decision with the end goal of only playing ball as long as possible at the highest level possible. Not unusual.
