...If rosters were finalized today, 44% of players who entered the portal this year WOULD NOT play NCAA basketball in the upcoming 2023-24 season. Crazy stat That's the environment in which we live in college basketball. When you scale back the onion, you find that several factors create this situation: You have kids that don't listen and buy into what the coach is teaching - Portal Kids being mislead by external forces (parents, friends & coaches) - Portal Kids thinking they are better than what they really are - Portal Unfortunately, I see this stat getting worse before it gets better. I cannot stress enough how important it is for kids/athletes to grow and get better through a process which has been lost currently in college sports, in this case basketball. Instant gratification and entitlement is the current downfall of college sports. It's enough to make a coach change careers.

i agree that in today's environment it is imperative to recruit "both" from the portal and also from the high schools...

Good Interview!
He compares our situation to Delaware when he started there...
I expect us to have some trials and tribulations early on...

Yes. I've actually seen (not heard about) a couple of reports on him. That's a major reason why I was hoping that we could hang on to him, but his head was outta here before the season was over. He would have been a helluva building block for Coach Ross, I think.
I'm interested in seeing how he pans out this season in Sacramento.

but we didn't have any "d1" talent on our team last year, he can't possibly be projected as a 2nd rounder...

Now you see him, now you don't. It's like a perpetual game of musical chairs with him. Contrary to what some believe, his departure, as well as the departure of woods, was the best thing that could happen for a variety of reasons. What # team is towson for him, 6? It ain't the school/team/coach/president/town/mayor/financial aid director (as his mom would have you believe), IT'S HIM!!! Wonder what caused Seton Hall to come to its senses???

When a player transfers multiple times it typically is the player trying to find a good landing spot that is best for him. Seton Hall probably did make the decision for him to leave.

I know this isn't Duncan but... Kam Woods’ eligibility waiver denied by NCAA; NC State will appealIt wasn’t terribly surprising yesterday to learn that transfer guard Kam Woods had his waiver for immediate eligibility denied by the NCAA. Not that it’s ever easy to predict what the NCAA is gonna do, but after watching other players have so much trouble getting this waiver approved, I figured Woods’ odds of success were slim. NC State will appeal this ruling, of course, but there’s no telling how long that might take and there doesn’t seem much short of public outcry and the threat of legal action to get the NCAA to flip on these decisions. State is Woods’ third D-I school, after beginning his career at Troy and playing last year at NC A&T. A&T changed coaches during the offseason, which is a big part of Woods’ argument for playing at State right now. Seems good enough to rubber stamp a waiver approval as far as I’m concerned, but alas. www.backingthepack.com/nc-state-basketball/2023/11/23/23973764/kam-woods-eligibility-waiver-denied-by-ncaa-nc-state-will-appeal

NCAA changed the rules this year to where a coaching change is no longer a valid reason to transfer. Because A&T coaching change occurred the beginning of last season and end of last season he had an unusual argument.
