Apparently, the Methodist Church stopped funding for BCU about 5-6 years ago. If they did stop the funding to BCU . It was because of BCU's leadership/administration mishandling of the appropriated targeted funds . Why does that seem to be a problem at many of our schools? It's frustrating.

The issue with BCU and many other private HBCUS is that many failed to pivot when well to do Blacks started attending PWIs post Civil Rights Act. Many of them struggle maintaining solid cash flow from steady enrollments. Add increasing costs and deferred maintenance, you have a tinder box. Bad loans for dorms and other facilities are the matches. Unstable enrollment is the flint.

It's frustrating. I was going to add that exact question to my statement. It seems to happen a lot at HBCU's for whatever reasons .

It's more deeper than that ,because it's not just the private HBCU'S that are being affected by leadership mismanage . Even A&T has had it's problems in the past with administrative mismanagement. The next time you see Tommy Ellis ask him about the problems that A&T had back in the late 70's and 80's.

Somebody had to speak out . It just happened to be Reed that got things in motion (remember our lost uncle) . Now the students are seeing that it is not just the athletics that have issues but the over all infrastructure of the institution , Reed just let the match that started the fire that the administration has to find away to put out .

That was 50 years ago. As awful as it was, we've righted that ship to the tune of being worthy of a vetted $45 million gift in 2021 and a successful capital campaign that exceeded expectations. Please don't go back there, when we're on the cusp of asking for $100 million for athletics this year. Leadership matters and A&T can be a model of how to fix it. I feel bad for them but I will not wallow in their mess. HBCU Presidents should get together and have a Financial Management Summit to learn from each other and call in experts. But God forbid their egos would let that happen. But while they are figuring that out, Chancellor Martin is hopefully having his own mini summits with his counterparts in the CAA (like W&M which is a state school with half our students and double our operating budget).

Yes it happened along time ago, but it happened. Point being we all have a history both good and not so good that should not have happened or be repeated.

They also had a hell of an AD. Not sure Reggie Theus is cut out for the job. to me, that's the biggest difference between bcu athletics now versus bcu athletics for the previous 30 years under lynn thompson as their athletic director. when they were in the meac, i always felt that lynn thompson was the best ad in the meac. virtually all of bcu's teams under him (not just football) were consistent conference championship contenders. i even lobbied for him to become meac commissioner when thomas resigned and lynn retired from bcu. if i'm not mistaken, i think lynn thompson is now a "consultant" for the meac. i agree, i'm not so sure that theus is the right man for the job as bcu's athletic director...

It's not good that Ed Reed needs a "handler" because he cant control his emotions. He needs some classes or a counselor to get that under control so he can achieve big things or he just needs to stay a #2 behind someone that has a cooler head that he respects. BCU made the right decision. Or like Ed Reed would say... "Say his name!!! His name is REGGIE THEUS!!!(while falling back in his chair)", LOL.
